Completed the storyline. Got the game on Monday and achieved the S-ending a few hours ago at level 31. I intend to write down a few gameplay impressions later.

I can certainly say that this game runs better and looks better than Case Zero did. So there.

but! "prolonged periods of gameplay at 20fps or below!" havent you heard?!
Actually, the game
does regularly dip below the 30 fps mark and probably below 20 at some points in the campaign too. It's even worse in very specific cutscenes. While it definitely looks better than Case Zero, I wouldn't say the performance has noticeably improved. If it did, it's only a marginal difference.

He's got the 360 version. I only noticed the game dropping to 10fps level in one certain cutscene ( mailman ) and I was like wow.
Aside from that, yes the fps in the game is not locked, and it does drop, especially when there are loads of zombies on screen. It can be a little annoying but I'm usually not too upset about fps in games. It doesn't really affect my performance in the game and I'm really enjoying it.
So if you're one who must have a stable framerate, I think you're better off with the pc version ( which I'm guessing is going to be pretty great, but that's just a guess ). If you can deal with slight framedrops every now and then, 360 or ps3 is the way to go.
I know tech talk will probably be frowned upon in this thread considering there's a comparison thread elsewhere, but I'm not entirely sure the low framerate is solely caused by the number of zombies displayed on-screen. Sure, when a relatively small area is practically packed shoulder-to-shoulder (such as an area close to the very end of the storyline) with zombies, similar to the final area of Dead Rising 1 leading up to the last boss fight, the framerate will take an additional hit, but it seems to me the engine just isn't particularly solid. Either that, or the developer's didn't get enough time to further optimize the Xbox 360 version, which is the only one I played.
For instance: the framerate takes quite a hit when low-res fire (funnily enough) or an explosion is being rendered and even Terror is Reality multiplayer (where in some mini-games not a whole lot is going on) doesn't run nearly as smooth as you'd initially think. It kind of reminds me of Borderlands' performance on consoles. There are also other graphical issues, minor ones like occasional pop-up or very slight pop-in, and it could be that v-sync is another reason (hardly noticed screen-tearing if any at all) why the framerate dipped as often as it did for me, so I'm curious to see how the PC version turns out. More or less because Blue Castle mostly stuck to developing console games before if I recall correctly. Could easily be wrong about that, though.
Mind you, the framerate rarely interfered with the gameplay barring a chase scene as well as one boss fight, and it did not ruin the game anyhow.
For me at least. That said, I'd like to see Dead Rising 3 run on an upgraded MT Framework if that'd make any difference next time around.
