For those that have finished the game, around how many combination weapons are there? I'm only a few hours in, and I've found about 6. There are so many weapons and random objects lying around that have the wrench icon next to them! Love the game so far.
mma gloves + nails
bat + nails
propane + nails
bucket + power drill
push broom + machete
fire extinguisher + dynamite

Christ the psycho's in this game are hard, I can't get a hit in without being knocked down and fucked up. Couldn't beat Slappy, Antoine or Randy.

Decided I would just come back later when I was on another play through and further levelled up but now I am facing
the two lesbians
and I am getting carved up, going in with 3 lots of full health items, fast and slower weapons but just cannot get seem to get any shots in before I get pounded. I'm level 15 atm too so I dunno whether I should be approaching this with a higher level character.

I love having a group of survivors and on the way to grabbing some more, cutscene - there's a psychopath, you're dead, sorry you just lost 25 minutes of gameplay. It feels like megaman all over again.

Not sure if this has been answered but how does the coop in this game work? Can you complete missions, gain exp, and cash? Or is it more of a free roam mode to goof around in?

I haven't done much of it, but my understanding is the following. For the guy "hosting", it doesn't change a thing. For the guy who joined, none of the story progress applies for him, but he gets to keep the earned pp and money. Maybe items too, no sure.

A good way to discover weapon combos is to visit as many maintenance rooms as you can. Most of the time the objects left in or just outside them can be combined. I'm surprised at the amount of combos I missed first time through.

I ran from one of the psychopaths and was able to save my game and take on other missions - not sure if this applies to all of them.

The host controls the game in co-op, so the guest is joining the host's game (you drop in mid-game, it continues as normal for the host except the other player appears). You can complete missions together, fight bosses, rescue survivors, etc. But none of the game progress is recorded for the guest, only the host. The guest gets to keep all cash and exp though.

Glad to see they took a common sense approach to the coop. Haven't got far in the game but I might try it tonight.

It's awesome isn't it! :D

Bat + nails is like one of the best weapons ever. It's just such a great weapon. It's fast and has a wide range and is a one hit kill and you aren't left vunerable ever and it lasts a long time. I keep one or two on me at all times.

With that said, anyone know if there are book combinations to make items last almost a lot longer like in the first? I remember you had to get like 2 or 3 books and melee weapons would last for a long ass time.

Any one have some tips for dealing with our "old fan" psycho. I get you're supposed to get him to crash and then take shots, but anyone have any good places to do it?

and yea, how do you beat this annoying dude.

Antoine is the guy in the bathroom with dreads right? If so, he is kind of easy actually. I beat him like this...

I got 2 shotguns and 2 orange juices and a spiked bat. At the beginning I swung the bat and it hit him a few times then he runs off...Then i Run to the front of the bathroom....then face all the stalls and the hostage. There is a hall to the left with stalls where the hostage is and a hall on the right with stalls and no hostage. I stand in front of the right hall at a distance near the door facing it with the shotgun. Randy will jump out the stall on the right....shoot him 3 times. he attacks. He runs to the stall and hides in the left. Just wait, and he will come out the right again. Shoot him 3 times. Repeat until your health gets low and drink an orange juice. Rinse and repeat and you should be able to kill him this way.

Joining someone's coop is fun. You get to mess around and explore with no pressure. Having someone join your coop kind of stinks if you're going for S grade and trying to maximize time/achievements/survivors/etc. because you can't exit doors/areas until your coop partner is right next to you. For random drop-in this is really annoying but if you are playing coop with your friend it isn't so bad.

The person dropping in loads a save file and they can save the money/pp they get from the coop session when they exit. The only thing that kind of sucks about drop-in is you drop in with no items so you have to pick up weapons/food everytime the host loads.

Is anyone else having issues with sound bugs in the 360 version of the game? Sometimes, when I drive a bike into a big hord of zombies or start slashing away at a big group, the sound will cut out entirely for like a second. I don't think it's my sound system crapping out cause when I play other games, I don't have this issue.

when he runs at you you can just jump away.. whenever his swing misses he gets tired and you can start pummeling him with melee weapons.. rinse and repeat until dead lol

I've found ramming him with a maintenance vehicle seems to work.

EDIT:

Beat him.
Try and get him to chase you into the construction area near the stairs and then electro-rake his ass!

Now I have to save!!!

I was in one of the casinos that has the Huge Mega size slot machine with my friend, he had the +gambling magazine and won us like $100 large, it was awesome and I totally got to keep it on my save, so awesome.

All I know, is that Chuck really fills out that Banana Hammock.......

There is a slight problem I have had with the survivor A.I,

I was trying to save the gun-toting couple, they kept on shooting zombes nearby me causing friendly fire and nearly getting me killed, took about two minutes of waiting for them to clear away all the zombies before it was safe enough for me to get close and talk to the woman triggering her to join me.

Apart from that the game is awesome. Played my first game of Terror in reality and had an epic comeback to win in the final motorbike round. What an awesome concept for a multiplayer mode.

That's why I set co-op on "Friends Only" instead of Public.

What's the potential for mods looking like and is the game particularly demanding? Thinking of doubledipping but not sure my PC will run it better than my 360.

I know it roughly meets the requirements, but that could mean anything.

Katey dying means game over, does it not? Don't really care to find out myself.

A question for those who have already played the game to shreds:
Do at some point additional safe house access points become available? Dragging and carrying the survivors across the entire map is not fun, it's almost a chore.

No but a shortcut opens up between Royal Flush Plaza and Palisades Mall if you do one of the side missions (Think it is called Withered Flower).

I wish I had more time to play. :( This week is so bad for me. Glad that Blue Castle pulled it off. I had faith in them after realizing what big Dead Rising 1 nerds they were.

From what I played, the soft audio was annoying. I thought it might've just been the stereo mix. My sound card with dolby digital live has been too buggy to use without my computer freezing, so I never tested.

I have a question, if i bring weapons and stuff to the safe house in the room where katey is and leave, save and come back to the game later will the stuff be there?

That's a good question. I'm guessing no. Placements are always reset after loading a new area it seems.

Played co-op all last night... fucking-fan-tastic!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!! Yes folks, Dead Rising 2 is better then Dead Rising one in almost every way!!!!

I found another zombrex location. Easy one you pass by all the time in the maintenance tunnels.
the next siderise with a tool room just south of the sealed blast door entrance you get access to at the end.

I stumbled across that one after finishing 2-2.
My survivors got cut off from me during the mission, so I was headed down that way to meet them.

Also, if you leave through that exit, you pop up on the Silver Strip pretty close to Royal Flush Plaza.

I want to play this game more than is healthy.

So only about 2 hours in, but as a huge fan of DR1 and an extreme skeptic during the leadup to DR2 this game seems pretty god damn sick.

I was also wary of the PC version, namely playing with m/kb but it's a wonderful (seems like some would say superior) port.

Blue Castle deserved to get picked up by Capcom; great fucking job guys.

Unfortunately, we all know their next retail title will bomba and they'll all be fired. Videogames!

:(

The sound is a problem for everyone it seems, and the dimming problem is actually the lighting in the game I believe.
duckroll said:
The sound is way too soft, and this is a problem that everyone else who has played the game also seems to experience. It's too bad, because it's really quite bad. Maybe they can provide a patch for it soon. The lighting is a bit weird for me too, and it's probably just the way the engine renders the game. There's quite a few areas where the lighting switches from soft to harsh lighting very quickly and it does look unnatural.
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something wrong with my set up. Other than the controller issues, sound and lighting, the PC Port is great. I'm running on a Phenom II Quad Core 2.8GHZ with a 4870 and I've had no noticeable framerate issues. Maybe a few during some cutscenes, but that's it. Love this game, wish I was playing right now!

EDIT: Oh yeah, TIR is a GREAT way to earn cash. I played one quick game of TIR and ten minutes later I had an extra $50k to apply to my save file. The only thing that sucks is that I was using the controller... its great for everything but the shooting minigame, I'm pretty sure the guy who won that round was using kbm.

How bad are the time limits in this game? They kinda ruined it for me in the first one. Also... is there some sort of freeplay mode that gets unlocked if you beat the game? I really just want to wander around and kill zombies without any other concerns.

if it ruined it for you in the first one, then unfortunately this one may not be a game for you :(

there was an unlockable freeplay mode like the one you describe in the first DR, but you would've had to be INSANE to play it.
DR1 was brutal.

some redneck just died and his wife got pissed, defected, and shot me to death.

i'm lookin forward to DR2s brutality as well :D

That is a bummer. Oh well. Thanks for the input.

I thought the Ninja suit was just cosmetic, but it actually seems as though the zombies can't hear/see you nearly as well as before. Pretty awesome being able to navigate through the zombies with little to no problems. :lol

I'll do you one better: When I tried to save them, one of them accidentally shot the other trying to take out zombies. The fella aggro'd the lady, and they started shooting it out while I tried desperately to press through the conversation far enough that they'd shut the fuck up and agree to come back to the safe room with me.

Rrrhggkggh.

Surprisingly, the AI has been excellent otherwise.

Possible solution to the audio issue:

GameFAQs post and response:
Think I fixed it. On the bottom right right click on your speaker and click "Adjust Audio Properties". Under the "Volume" tab in the Speaker Settings , select Advanced. And on this window use the drop down near the bottom and change into a 5.1 surround sound. Since I had it on 2 speakers (which I have) but after doing this change the sound is much better.

interesting... i bet changing it to 5.1 allows the windows audio subsystem to handle the downmixing, whereas selecting "two speakers" in-game does nothing more than just throw out all the channels except FL and FR (which is fing stupid but typical for a port)... ill try it tonight...

Won't be able to try it out myself until tonight, but it sounds right on.

So far DR2 is everything I want out of a sequel: more of everything I liked from the first game. The world area is huge, and there's a complete onslaught of missions compared to the first game.

Unfortunately I'm now stuck waiting in an airport instead of playing the game, but my mind is playing that damned DR1/2 mall jazz theme in the back of my head. :lol

Surprised to see level up rewards are random, but maybe it was that way in the first game, too? (Died during the
Tiger fight
, losing my health-up as a result, but earned speed-up on reload instead!)
