Dead Rising demo TODAY. Now. :o

i had frank dressed in the kids clothes with knee high socks from the sporting goods shop and lastly, i grabbed a hot purse from the womens store. i tried to take a picture in the full length mirror of the women shop, but sadly frank had to put the purse away to take the picture :lol

oh, and shanking a zombies face with a clothes hanger is the new awesomeness

Oh man. I played through the demo three times before tearing myself away to come back to my PC and get some work done (at which point, I promptly came to GAF and got no work done whatsoever :D ).

It's amazing how little of the demo I apparently saw in three playthroughs!

I like throwing handfuls of gems from the jewelry shops. Yeah, it doesn't do tons of damage, but the spread effet hits a few zombies. Plus, it's the principle of the thing--chucking diamonds is awesome.

funny story. last october i was at a horror convention in Massachusetts talking to George Romero and we got talking about games. Of course, I asked him if he'd heard of Dead Rising...

and he said he hadn't.

so...

I told him about it.

Now I see these disclaimers and I think...

gee...

he'd have found out about it eventually though right?

right?

Normally, romero is very open to things like this.

Is there a soundtrack behind all this? Any good?

as far as music, I just noticed different ambient songs playing in the background depending on what store/area you're in. It's pretty muted though (it all has the tinny "elevator music" sound)

damn now you guys are hyping it up TOO much. i give it until 8/12/06 until the inevitable "fellas, were we wrong about this game?"

although i am still buying it day 1 whether i play the demo before or not! champion!

You know GAF, we will turn on anything after a month or so. I think that the backlash will not be as bad with this one though. I am getting it Wednesday from Fry's and going to play the hell out of it until Madden comes out.

I've been doing some cooking:

Ketchup + OJ gave me Nectar. No clue what it does
OJ + OJ = same
Cooking oil + Pie gave me a random boost I think. I got quickstep from it which makes me run fast as hell
cooking oil + snack = same
Cooking oil + baking ingredients gave me spitfire
Baking ingrediants + pie gave me the same thing
ketchup + baguette = same
cooking oil + cooking oil = same
chips + baking ingredients = same
baguette + pie gave me 'untouchable' which seems to stop zombies from grabbing you
OJ + pie = same

I was dissapointed that the blender would not accept my hunk of flesh :(

every time I drink the randomizer now I get an upset stomach (frank drops his weapon and hunches over randomly) instead of something useful :( I want quickstep back. Anyone know what combo gives you a drink that makes quickstep directly?

You just described every day of my life... working at home is a mixed blessing....

So true. On days when amazing demos don't come out, I'm usually MORE productive at home. Today though.... not happening.

Awesome game! The loading is kinda annoying though.

With this and Lost Planet I'd say Capcom wins next-gen thus far. :D

Question: Will playing the demo ruin any signifcant enjoyment from the actual game?

quite possibly. there seems to be some story spoilers and if you get your enjoyment from discovering stuff then I guess the demo could take away from that

Not really, you are just testing a few of the game's 200+ weapons, maybe only 50 weapons. This isn't like Prey where the demo consists of the best part of the game, its almost a teaser, unless you're the kind who will never play any demos, you won't be ruining anything, and more missing out on GAFscussion.

Yeah the demo is a pretty solid tease -- they give you soooo little to work with, but you're shown the huge potential the game has.

It takes away the enjoyment of discovering things like mixing drinks en burning of zombie faces.;)

:O!

I'm still not done, *fires up 360*

Looks like I've used all the items on that list.

I like how the push broom becomes a spear once it breaks. 30pp points for every time you impale someone with it, and some nice Brutality points if you snap a photo before the zombie dies.

Damn, this is taking a long time to download for me. I'm at 26% after like an hour. :(
My 360 has been on since about 2pm, its 9:49 right now and its about 97% :lol

Ah well, I got to wait up to a week for moto gp 06 to come in the mail, so I got time.

Go up to the restaurant on the 2nd floor. Take the pan and put it on the stove. Then attack zombies (hold X) and it will burn their face. :lol :lol

Nah, I just posted it in response to the request for Ultimate DR Tunes. I'm currently listening to Daedelus' set on Dublab. Dreamy for a little while and then straight vicious beats.

Do zombies ever really become dangerous? Seems you can just wander around without ever being in real danger.

They're dangerous from the start. If you really want to get anywhere, get ready to get hurt. Alot.

I died a few times, they'll grab you pretty quick if they get close, especially if they come up from behind.

They aren't very dangerous if:
a) You have a weapon (and use it -- they look like you can just run right past them but attempting to do so will only result in failing b)
b) you don't let them gang up on you

If you fail at either of these they will tear you up

They can still jack you if you're carrying, especially with something heavy and area specific as the sledgehammer for example. It's most powerful move is to swing straight down in one direction. A zombie and and will come at you from every other one. A sledgehammer is heavy. You will be left very vulnerable.

This also cuts down on your Jerking Around Time. Think you can just stand in a hallway and pitch golfballs at the things? Not really. You might be able to find a slightly quiet area on the second floor by the stairs, but if you're actually trying to do something, you're going to want effectiveness. As I said before, this is why the game's longevity and depth don't concern me. The difficulty level is pitched perfectly to ensure tension throughout. When you see throngs of zombies, your first thought isn't "Ha ha! Prepare to eat Scythe!" It's "Oh shit. How am I possibly going to survive this."

Of course, you can and do have fun with all the weapons, but it's a good terrifying fun, hoping that this guitar is strong enough to ensure your survival to Jill's Sandwiches.

Yeah, I didnt meant to suggest they were too easy. They are definitely more difficult than they look at first glance, ive died in a few of my runs through

So what else is there to do? I just found out that you can HEAT a frying pan on the oven and use it to burn zombie faces! Amazing! I also found a microwave, but don't know what I have to put in it. Cooking oil makes them slip in a most amusing way! BTW, how does combining food work? How do book work? You have to keep them on you for the bonus to apply?

Oh man just played it more... too ****in fun.

Sledgehammer owns.

Servbot/Kobun costume and the masks OWN.

I had an army of zombies doing nothing but walk around bumping into each other hahaha.

Is there any mission to do in the demo? I didn't really catch that.

Or is it just play around and test things out kind of demo?

Game is awesome! Also, I suggest that anybody playing it in SD go and at least buy a VGA cable, this game looks amazing in HD!
