Dead Rising demo TODAY. Now. :o

-"Odd game structure. It intends for you to replay each chapter, while retaining the experience, stat boosts and attacks learned in preceding playthroughs. Clearing the first chapter, for example, is much easier the third time through: Not only do you know where to go and what you can do, but you have a stronger attack rating, faster speed, a bigger life bar, an expanded item inventory, and a longer throw distance."

I would mark that as pro if i were reviewing the game. I like that style. I dont get the uneven visuals complaint either. Its not the best looking 360 game but its still pretty damn amazing.

PROTIP:
Just don't read anything marked as a PROTIP.

Holy ****ing crap at the katana! Too bad stuff breaks after a while though. Hope you can change that in the final game if you like.

The cinema "ending" was kinda cool too.

Maybe it's a 'feature' but every time I stop walking, the soundfx for my feet hitting the floor continue for 4 more steps.

Anyway, before the demo, this was a day 1 purchase... now it's a first minute purchase!

This was pretty fun. Between this and Lost Planet, it's clear Capcom is dedicated to making quality games for the 360. SF2's success isn't hurting their pockets, either.

Anyone else get that he does random moves every now and then? Like flips and whatnot.

I wonder if he does that or if I make him do it without knowing.

Yeah because Capcom isn't known for making quality games for all platforms...

Double push in any direction will make him roll that way.

Oh snap marvel! This would be perfect with online, though. We could get our gaijin zombie killer game on.

I spent a good amount of time riding the shopping cart around the first floor, running through zombies, and splattering their rotten grey matter all over my Servbot helmet. Then I changed into a horse head and a dress shirt, and proceeded to beat the shit out of zombies with a baseball bat on the second floor.

If that paragraph doesn`t make you want this game, you are soulless.

OK just got finished playing the demo. Tons of fun. I was going to buy the game anyway, but this just makes the wait easier to get through :P

That`s the thing. I have to wait for the US version to get delivered to my apartment (shipping shit to Japan takes a while), so this demo dropped at EXACTLY the right time.

-"No hardcore gamer should miss the wholly unique experience provided in Dead Rising's debut."

Milky hits it on the head. I can`t wait.

Haha - reminds me of this from a bit ago:

Theres something hypnotic about filling up with golfballs and hitting them down a hallway of zombies while dressed like a horse.
If I weren't sold already, that would have done it.

We need to come up with all the recipes for the blender.

I so far made: (minor spoiler alert)

- Orange (nectar: orange juice + orange juice, orange juice + condiment)

- Blue (spitfire: baking ingredient + cooking oil, baking ingredient baguette, baking ingredient + pie, condiment + baguette, condiment + cooking oil, baking ingredient + baking ingredient, cooking oil + cooking oil, condiment + condiment)

- Red (untouchable: pie + orange juice, baguette + orange juice, pie + baguette, baguette + baguette, pie + pie)

- Pink (zombait: spitfire + untouchable)

I also made black one (randomizer: pie + cooking oil). I wonder if you can make that mysterious white and green ones by mixing randomizer and the other colors....

edit: AWESOME! I made green one (energizer) by mixing zombait with randomizer! I'm sure the white one is made the same way.

I don't recall the last time where I had such a big grin on my face and laughed so much after playing a game. Capcom, you have another winner here! After seeing this, my mouth froths for the magic that Capcom will make with the next Resident Evil!

Has anyone tried throwing the cooking oil and watching the zombies fall down and not be able to get up and slide around on the floor? Pretty funny and good photo op.

does this demo have any story at all?

is it just bash and slash?

i keep tryingto find something to d to help the blonde but it gives me nothing to do but kill things.

also any word if this text on screen is better on the final, i can barley read most everything on screen and i have a 61 inch tv. super blurry!!!!

As far as I know, there are no missions or story events outside of the introductory cutscene and the ending cutscenes.

They limited the demo so that soon as you run across a story element, it ends.

Is it a 61" SDTV? If so, it doesn't matter how big it is, it's just gonna be blurry blown up big. SD is just SD.

If you have a computer monitor (very likely unless you only have a laptop in the house), I highly recommend getting the $40 VGA kit so you can play the game in HD.

ok, knowing there is no story missions lets me now just focus on beating up zombies. love putting the things on there heads.

my skateboard sure dissapearsquick.

yeah it's about a 6 year old rear projection sony tv, big as can be but still blury as heck.

no HD yet, was planning on waiting another year or 2 after i buy my 1st house this winter.

my mac is the 1st G3 ever made so it's older then dirt too although i have been looking at those small Samsung screens like the xbox displays have and maybe a new imac too.

Is that an iMac or PowerMac? If it's a PowerMac, it came with a seperate monitor, no? Even an ancinet PC monitor is better than a new SD TV.

I need help with the second chart guys.

I only played the demo last night for about 30 min, so I didn`t find the blender. I`ll have to look tonight, and see what I can make.

Playing the demo is a spoiler.

I think I can compare it with when I played the Burnout 3 demo. It almost was more fun than playing the game. When playing the game itself, the whole concept isn't a surprise anymore. Of course there are other things to find out but the basics are already known.

Complaints:
-"Uneven visuals. there's nothing particularly bad about any of the character models, but they don't really look next-gen. Yes, they sport higher polygon counts, but you get the feeling that that you're looking at characters for the Xbox 1.5 more than for the 360. The flip side is that you're seeing dozens and dozens more of these NPCs and monsters onscreen than you would on any other hardware platform. Still, with the exception of the highly detailed cut-scenes, it comes off as a bit too sanitary."
-An awkard save system. You have the limited options of either save points, or recording your statistical progress and restarting the level entirely."

Sorry but the uneven visuals complaint is just bullshit.
Xbox 1.5 character models ? Did they expect fight night 3 quality models considering thereìs probably 200+ of them onscreen ? textures are mostly awesome, iq is perfect, nice draw distance and polycount for the mall itself, good shaders...everything considered this is one of the best looking x360 games so far, and one can only start imagining what RE5 will look like when they concentrate all the detail in smaller areas and fewer characters.

Also, like someone else said, the odd game structure does sound like it should be a praise, insetead.

The game needs a couple things to be perfect though:
1) At least one game mode where 1 bite=(living) dead. Of course you should be given the possibility to set distractions and stuff, so that you don't necessarily have to run across hundreds of zombies (might get almost impossibile not to get bitten, otherwise).
2) The feeling everything you may want in the mall is yours (which was part of what made the movie great) therefore giving the player the possibility to pick up items and stuff with different uses, not just proper or less-than-proper weapons.
Quick example; Frank's a photographer and it appears you can only take 30 pics at the beginning. Wouldn't it be nice to give the player the possibility to pick up better cameras, larger memory cards to store more photos, better lens (ranging from fisheye to tele) ?
Better yet, Capcom could have scattered a few old coin op's of theirs in the mall, for you to play (i'd imagine an X360 is powerful enough to emulate -say- G'n'G and texture it on the cabinet model, withouth switching to a fullscreen emulation, that would be nice) or even consoles you can pick and bring in a safe room to play old games.
Or a backpack to carry more items, flashlights to use in the dark, hi fi systems to listen to cd's (with musics from the game of course) instead of just throwing them, ranging from portable ones to huge and powerful enough to scare zombies away. Mp3 players that would use the music files stored in your X360 and thus unlock a custom soundtrack feature (yeah, i know MS wants that available by default..still).
Start working on Dead Rising 2 already !

This demo feels about as good as Lost Planet did to me, wonder why this game is coming out so soon and we still have ages to wait for LP.

I'm hoping it's because Lost Planet has tons and tons of different environments.

Yeah because Capcom isn't known for making quality games for all platforms...

If that was sarcasm then I say "What's up Dino Crisis 3 and Steel Battalion?", capcom's only semi-big budget games for xbox with DC3 being crap full stop and SB having the ridiculous controller and some game content now inaccessible due to the online infrastructure being downsized.

Protip: jump and press x in the air with the kids plastic light-saber... it has it's own jump attack animation.

That makes me wonder what other weapons have jump attack animations...

I kind of wish it was a real Lightsabre. I also wish when you wielded it that you got all the Jedi moves that the universe can muster.

That's why Dead Rising isn't a perfect game to me, and it's the only reason.

What does this have in terms of online play?

Well, when it comes to multiplayer indeed nothing. But when the announcements are to be believed there are going to be extensive leaderboards that cover many aspects of the game. Depending on the variables, I think it is going to be fun to compare my actions with those of my buddies.

QFMFT. Alot of folks still have unrealistic expectation of the "next gen". Drinking too much Sony BS coolaid from '05 E3 still has side effects to this day. :D

The models look fine. The thing that really bothers me is the goddamn lip animation. When they talk they look like fish. Otherwise teh animation is fine. I guess whoever rigged the face/lips didn't know what the **** they were doing.

I agree, the game looks great. And the guy should have mentioned the blood effects as well, so beautiful.

Sure that isnt already in the game?. I find it something to be expected.

That would have been great but i think from now on they will reserve all that for XBLA.

Played the demo last night!
I'm not deceived except the god damned 15 mins timer. After 14 minutes you're really into it you know, and then BAM! "buy the game in September". Yeah tks.

It may fall on the repetitive side but then again there seem to so much to experiment and test in this game that it should be a game to buy. Anyway the demo is very fun! Best fun i had on 360 except Lost Planet.

Oh yeah at some point, my friend was playing and i don't what he did exactly but the AI just seemed to have encountered a bug. All the zombies downstairs were gathering together and try to walk over each other. There began forming a really big pile and then we just took some bench and decided to **** up their little game lol.
Oh man, talk about something sweet. Each "bench hit" was hitting like 20-25 zombies. There even was slowdown lol

Anyway, great times.

If a weapon doesn't have a jump attack mode, you will perform a jump kick, which is really useful for knocking zombies out of your way. Also I discovered that you can use the a severed zombie hand to distract (what for, dunno) a zombie, by throwing it at him, so he tries to pick it up from the floor. Alternatively, you can stuck the hand into a zombies mouth and take a picture for added humor points.

When pointing your photocamera at a zombie, it won't attack. It just stands there as if it is posing. Just like the woman behind the shopping trolly this could be a sign of the remainder of old memories when they were ordinary people. Which is also a central theme in the Romero movies.
