Sure don't. The White Stripes also aren't very good.

I liked Black Keys back when they were called The John Spencer Blues Explosion and they released the same album like 6 times. Good times.

It was a pretty shocking time to be alive. People still listen to the John Spencer Blues Explosion, which is even more shocking.

EDIT - My avatar is from Spaced. demi made it for me long ago. <3

JSBX is pretty awesome.

GWS-era Ween is easily the best twopiece ever guys. Let's just stop this ridiculous argument.

I don't get why everyone loves The Black Keys. It bores me to tears.

I saw JSBX one time and they where lame. They were outplayed by The Tight Bros from Way Back When!!

Also Death From Above 1979 are fun to listen too

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
DFA1979 = Lightning Bolt for pussies.

I was wondering how long it would take for a GAF DFA1979 thread to pop up. Fucking excellent shit.

On Conan 3 (or so?) weeks ago max played the drums for the 2nd half of their song.

I saw that conan episode, and Max was rocking.

Death from Above 1979 is awesome. Great name too.

What's this formula they use though? Two-piece? Drums and a bass? This might be embarassing, but I thought I heard a regular guitar in there somewhere...

Drum and Bass. Heavily distorted bass (which semi-mimics a distorted guitar riff because the bassist generally seems to play higher notes) and the bassist also plays keyboards. Granted, there's always the possibility of them using some guitar in the studio (just like White Stripes and Black Keys use bass on their studio records).

Oh, wow. That's interesting. How does one "heavily distort" the bass? A pedal of some sort or an amplifier trick?

What does Lightning Bolt use?

I love you Tre, but, man, "Your Southern Can is Mine" is better than everything The Black Keys have written put together. Plus after seeing what Jack did to that dude from the Von Bondies, I'm sure he'd kick the shit out of DFA1979 and The Black Keys at the same time in a fight. GO JACK GO. Plus he's got a monstrous package. Dude's insane, a wonderful songwriter and he can grow the creepiest 'stache ever.

I like The White Stripes better than either of those bands - can't stand DFA at all - but my favorite band is "worse than Crazytown", so my opinion doesn't count.

The boys of Death from Above 1979 have some pretty manly beardy-beards. They could take Jack White with great ease, if my calculations are correct.

Death From Above 79 is the shit. holy crap.

and i think both of them could kick the shit out of jack white. and i like white stripes.

besides, the drummer in his nasty titty shirt (from the romantic rights video) could take on anyone.

Please stop being a philistine Diablos, DFA1979 are fucking awesome. I'd love to see you with at least some sort of argument against them that can't be posted as a mathematical formula if you're going to derail a whole bloody thread.

It's old news, but maybe some of you newer DFA1979 fans are unware of it:

Posting on Death From Above 1979's official message board, bassist Jesse F. Keeler wrote that they will record an as-yet-untitled album this summer and fall, and expect to complete it before the end of the year for a release in spring 2006. Hot damn! An album with songs and everything!
Wait, that wasn't the impressive part. Here's what's cool: During the recording sessions the band and their cohorts will also produce two additional versions of the album. Says Keeler: "Sebastien [Grainger, DFA 1979's singer and drummer] is getting a band together...a normal band with guitars, keys, bass, etc. and they will record an alternate version of the album. i cant wait to hear it."

Then the remix team of MSTRKRFT, Keeler, and Al-P of Girls Are Short (who produced You're a Woman, I'm a Machine) will make a second alternate version with all-female band Loveheart on vocal duties. Keeler describes the planned approach to the songs on this third pass through them as "more like covers with different arrangements."

But as for the release of all this extra material, no firm plans have been made; Keeler says they might put both alternate versions out as a double CD, edit it down to one 12", or whatever else strikes their fancy (and, presumably, their record company's). Whatever happens, Keeler assures fans that all of MSTRKRFT's output will be available online if it doesn't appear on CD or vinyl.

I love DFA79; I have for a long time.

But you are not allowed to have an opinion until you've heard them live.

Dude, I suck at math. (Seriously).

But I love DFA1979. Just because I say White Stripes > Black Keys > DFA1979 does not imply that they suck. Basically it means I like the White Stripes better than both of them, but black keys and DFA1979 are almost on the same level. Almost. I only rank Black Keys higher because I've heard more of their work. But that doesn't mean a damn thing.
