Death stranding 2 30 min. 4k gameplay

You're probably right. But I don't think it should be underestimated how great it was for Kojima and his team to be able to get a great engine to work from immediately. Think of how much money was saved, since Kojima Studios was able to get up and running so fast. Especially with an engine that his team was able to build on and add to with Guerilla Games.

For his type of games, it was literally the perfect engine and situation. It's hard to put a price on that gift.
Agreed. It was a fantastic deal, the perfect marriage even and I've never seen a brand new studio ramp up the way Kojima did. And Sony and Decima were instrumental in that. I'm just pushing back on the claim that he would be a long forgotten nobody sitting in a basement with no other publisher at his doorstep willing to do the exact same deal. Would it have been as perfect as having access to Decima? Most definitely not. But he would still have built the studio and the team the exact same way, on his own merit.

Again you are making it out to be as if its a bunch of kids making a new game. These are all industry veterans for decades that just switched studios or should I say changed their name. Nintendo definitely wasnt interested in funding him, Microsoft I remember mentioned the will to collaborate but never wanted to cash out millions for his one game, so who else is left with so much money? Oh and he got an engine AND the people working on that engine to help build his game. Maybe he would not be in a shitty basement but a basement nonetheless making games like Peace Walker at best. DS budget was reportedly 200+ million USD and SONY was initially not happy with sales as projected.

Also can we stop this hype train how Kojima does everything. I think the last time he coded anything was like in mid 90s. He doesnt write the whole script, he doesnt come up with character design, he cant code on modern hardware, etc. He is like Steve Jobs...says what he wants then 100+ talented people make it happen. But somehow theres people here still thinking its all Kojima. He can have an input but Shinkawa is the main character designer yet when the trailer pops, everyone jumps on this false narrative how only Kojima could come up with that. Shinkawa isnt some lap dog that copy/pastes what comes out of someones mouth, he has a brain, talent and imagination to make his own creations but as always its Kojima's name front and center because he is a egotistical tool.

Only reason he is still relevant is because of handouts otherwise he would of been a REAL indie developer, making tiny weird games not even close to what DS has become.

After playing both mgs5 and ds i can safely say that the dude didn't had anything to do with the gameplay\stealth\combat of mgs5, he probably only wrote the trash, unfinished plot and the shitty base management.

Uhmmm... Take Two? Atlus? Tecmo? Epic Games? Kadokawa? Tencent? Amazon? There are so many big publishers looking to acquire studios and expand. I don't disagree that Sony was the perfect fit, but I don't think he would have not been able to make it big in any other way. As long as you keep doubling down on the basement claims, we are going to disagree :)

I'm not part of that hype train. I was specific about my disagreement with you. Not making any such claims about Kojima and yes, he isn't a one man army

You couldn't be further from the truth.

And lets be honest, most of the hype comes from weird ass trailers which are like 20% of the actual game. Ill give him credit that he does edit/direct the cutscenes and trailers as that is widely known but ever since the disappearance of the actual writer for MGS games after MGS3, the plot took a total nosedive into the nonsensical. I cant for sure say how good his English is or he just refuses to speak it but I can bet both of my pinky fingers yakuza style, that no way that deep talk, life philosphy and heavy vocabulary plot comes from his head only. Speaking of MGS 5 its painfully obvious how the dialogue went to a minimum compared to past games. Kiefer spoke like 30 sentences in the whole game at best lol.

Oh..........so now Kojima is just a video trailer editor now?

I'm sure he took credit for everything.

He doesn't take credit for everything.

I said he is like Steve Jobs, has an idea but others do it for him and refine it. I mean it doesnt get worse than MGS 5 before each and after each mission lol. Theres a reson this exists:

Also, when is the last time he gave credit to Shinakawa the guy responsible for almost every single of his titles. Its always "MY" game, im the producer, im the director, im the writer, im the level designer. Its never "my team and I are working on an amazing game". Last time it was his game only, he made some shitty penguin loop track with a single action button.

Who cares?

The fact that Yoji Shinkawa's name is so well known despite him working (almost?) exclusively on Kojima projects for the past 25+ years shows how redundant your criticism is.

You know that's not real, right?

I'm not going to watch one bit. I have 100% in the sequel and can't wait to play

You're an absolute clown if you think this is real

What engine is this game running on? And how much did they spend on using it?

That's not "literally financed his whole studio" though, is it?
Do you understand the difference between putting in the capital for a studio of 60-100 people and providing an engine?

Plus, KJP assists on the development of Decima. They received a lot of help yes, and for DS many Guerilla developers helped, but thats not "literally financed his whole studio".

You're right, but I don't think it's fair to downplay Sony's role in all of this either. This was a unique partnership. Not any ol' Publisher would have worked out as well.

He just mentioned shinkawa in an interview the other day. I think it was the one about the release date. He basically has to plan everything with him and everyone knows it.

No i didn't downplay it.
Cerny held Kojimas hand and took him to a trip around the globe to visit all their studios, ask questions and pick an engine.
They essentially gave him a blank check which created problems with the first party studios that never had such a treatment.

Kojima should be, and i believe he is, grateful.

But they didn't pay for his studio. He entirely owns it.

We are on the same page here lol.

That's wrong.
Sony owns the Bloodborne IP.
Kojima owns DS IP since some months ago.
I mean Sony sold it to them. It's only recently changed. Even then it's very similar conceptually. Sony obviously has some sort of exclusivity agreement at least for a temporary window.

The game looks drop dead gorgeous.

I wish I liked DS1 even a little bit and I was hoping this one would change things up more. It def. looks like DS1 but -more- so.. eh.

DS series is a type of game that just needs patience at the first few hours and once you get a hang of it and get all the basic upgrades, you will begin to love it and enjoy it.

Has anyone talked about the driving it was really wonky in the first game
I think it was deliberate since its base on real time physics, designed to be realistic in weight and inertia and speed. I only have a few problems especially on rains slippery, mud, and get stuck on rocks ( good thing there is a jump )

damn I feel so tempted to watch this but I'm not doing it. I saw 5 minutes of one preview and I feel like I already know too much

I love the first game but the vehicles felt dreadful to use. There is no chance they were trying to emulate realistic physics (see Wreckfest or Mudrunner). The vehicles in DS felt like half-baked toys.

I played around 15 hrs. of it so I think I got a decent sense of the loop by the time I dropped it. Really the biggest turnoff was the writing - it REALLY wants to be deep and profound but it just comes off as pretentious.

TBF it does not look that different from the first, and it shows environments which were already presents in trailers, so you're good to go I think unless you do not want to spoil yourself the new UI (which is pretty similar also) or light innovations in mechanics

I don't know how to feel about it. The only thing I liked of Death stranding was the story. This footage show the same identical gameplay of the prequel which I really despise. I hoped a more drastic evolution in the gameplay for the sequel but I knew to have to lower my expectations
