Death stranding 2 30 min. 4k gameplay

Really impressive how it holds that sense of scale at this speed, usually in games there's more lens compression and more coverup effects need to be used on the far distance to cover up the assets being reduced.

Its DECIMA so no doubt it'll have all Guerilla's features and then some.

I'm curious to see how they handle the day/night cycle, using transitions between bakes or a proper dynamic GI system.

Yeah. I'm very curious how they handle day/night transitions (although it's still not confirmed, right? I haven't watched the video yet, it does show day and night but does the clip move maps or can you tell yet if it changes live?) Even the PC Horizon FW didn't try to replace the baked GI (which might be for the better in the stylized looks they achieved with that process, ) but a realtime solution would be a great next step for Decima, and certainly the looks we've seen so far in DS2 are incredibly eye-pleasing.on video.

Would be cool to see a State of Decima update at a future GDC, they did one after Horizon 1/Frozen Wilds and some of the experimentak improvements they showed there were in Horizon 2. It's an exciting engine, and although an engine doesn't make a game great, I do wish Sony could put more projects on it and see what more Decima could do.

"Hideo Kojima says Death Stranding 2 has so much tactical espionage action that even his own staff 'worried it was getting a little Metal Gear-ish'"

"It's not that I'm simply pushing combat," says Kojima. "The game is still fundamentally about cargo delivery, but combat has become more flexible. Some of the staff on Death Stranding 2 worked with me on the Metal Gear series, so there were times when people worried that it was getting a little Metal Gear-ish. My personal explanation for it is that we simply pursued more enjoyable combat. This is actually connected to the theme of 'we should not have connected.'"

Delivering has changed.

Most do new things on top, that's not what's happening here, maybe they're saving new stuff for a later showing?

I'm sure there will be new things on top of it. Guaranteed pretty much. I think they've already announced some of the new stuff that will be in 2 but honestly I haven't looked cause I don't care. It's day 1 for me. I don't need to see anything else.

I was thinking of replaying DS too, but I'm a little worried I'd get burnt out before this comes out. It's a long ass game with a lot of walking.
Yeah, that's very risky, I wouldn't try it. I felt so burned out after completing DS1 that I didn't touch the game for 2 years after.

Nothing wrong with just fucking around making some deliveries for a small handful of hours before release, if anything just to get re-acclimated to the controls which I'm assuming will be mostly the same.

That's what I'll be doing. Hopefully I won't get sucked in too hard, but that loop is very crack-like once you get into a flow.

You haven't played Death Stranding until you've played an entirely offline game with a desolate map.
It'd be nice if Death Stranding 2 has an option for offline so we don't have to disconnect our PS5s.

Carrying a baby around seems like a fail and hopefully we get another BB.
Every time we fall in tar Lou's going to start drowning in sludge and the game's not going to allow us to just press on without Lou.

Playing DS1 offline is the way to do it. Will do the same for DS2.

I haven't tried that yet, playing offline DS1. That is brutal without online help of structures from other gamers, but it might be fun and challenging. I might try that on Ds1 directors cut. As for Ds2 I'm surely going for the Platinum. Will even try the hardest mode on Ds2.

Death Stranding 1 was a huge disappointment for me. I could have tolerated the gameplay if the story had been good, and I could have tolerated the story if the gameplay had been good, but both were kind of shit

Plenty of it.
People that have never played DS1 don't realize the amount of systems the game is working with. Yes, it is primarily a walking simulator of going from point A to point B, but the game does a great job of implementing new gameplay mechanics as you progress through each region. Always felt rewarding

Exactly what Im saying. I loved the first one and will most definitely buy this one, but nothing about it screams hype to me. It looks like more of the same, which is fine.

A sequel that's completely different from the first? :pie_thinking:

Super Mario Bros 2
Zelda 2
Toejam & Earl 2
Castlevania 2
Darksiders 2
Street Fighter 2
Dino Crisis 2
Ni No Kuni 2
Batman Arkham City

They're out there
They're out there? You took a time machine while racking your brain to come up with that list lol. And not necessarily a good thing to make experiments for sequels. Some of the stuff you listed were not even "sequels', or not even part of the series at all like SMB2 lol. Several of those were worse for radically changing the formula like Zelda 2, Darksiders 2 and Ni No Kuni iI.

Norman Reedus being stealthy inside some bushes while he carries a cargo of his size on his back was funny

Yup, this looks like Death Stranding. Loved the first game, will probably enjoy this one.

I didn't really find it all that difficult.

Why y'all doing it this way? Isn't it the opposite of what you're supposed to do?

Was going to say this. Being online helped saved my bacon a dozen times during my playthrough.

Not sure why you'd want to play it offline. Missing out on a sense of connected community by helping others along the way with shared structures, equipment etc.

I still get a thrill whenever I see a notification that another porter successfully delivered my lost cargo.

Loved the first, stoked about the second.

If you didn't like the first, I don't see why you'd think you'd enjoy the sequel. It looks like it contains the same, but also a lot more. But if you didn't like what's the same, then it's likely just not for you.

Can't wait.

  • Why they weren't doing Bloodborne after the successful reception to Demon's Souls
  • Why they didn't do Demon's Souls DLC
Because it was more of a Japan Studio game than it was a Bluepoint game. The creative director was Gavin Moore from Puppeteer, while the few game designers that worked on the remake were from Japan Studio as well.
The idea of Bluepoint making a DLC for that game makes me laugh a lot, these guys were a partner studio on God of War Ragnarok for 2 whole years, lol.
Also, not the best thread to talk about Bluepoint.

I'd play a Subnautica/Death Stranding crossover. I was just playing Subnautica thinking how much DS scratched a similar itch and that I'd buy Substranding: Below The Beach.

Nothing you said here was relevant to what I said...

Some want to play offline to... miss out on a sense of connected community :messenger_winking:
It's not that hard to get. Some of us like to be alone. Even in so called real life. And some of us like that in video games. Desolate, melancholic... It's fuel for some of us, even if it seems strange to the majority

No one "racked" their brain here, dipshit 😂

Yeah I think this game kind of nails the shared world like Dark Souls did. You get some tidbits from other players, but you're still out alone. I liked building toward the shared structures. Narrative wise, you are connecting the world.

But the offline option was there, so why not.

Can you imagine putting out 1-2 GOTY candidates every year and the narrative online being that you're not doing enough? I get it in the sense that not every game is going to speak to everyone, but given the complexities of game development, I think Sony studios are still doing a pretty good job.

Intergalactic
Ghost of Yotei
Death Stranding 2
Wolverine
Saros
Venom

Plus plenty of rumored titles in development from Santa Monica, Guerrilla and others...

Hopefully, within a year and a half we get another epic Bluepoint remake.

Bit of a stretch to call Kojima Productions a 'Sony studio', mate.

I didn't call Kojima Productions a sony studio. I said Sony studios are doing a pretty good job. I then listed games published by Sony, of which Death Stranding 2 is among them. I can see where you get the implication, but you know damn well that I know and everyone else knows that it isn't.
