Yep. Im not mind blown. It is definitely not game of the year. But its just polished and nice looking and pretty fun.I'm having a fun time with it. Got past the part where you actually find "Death's Door" and learn what your objectives are. The gameplay and upgrade system are pretty basic but fun. There are some Zelda-like puzzles involving arrows. The monolith-like bosses seem pretty cool. Graphics are clean and the game runs smoothly. Thumbs up so far.
Tight, challenging combat and a gorgeous world to explore makes the morbid act of reaping souls a delight in Death's Door.
Any games it reminds of you of, specifically?Well I keep getting more impressed. The world is just really nice. Got to area 3 and the just keeps getting better.
Not exactly. Its obviously slightly like Zelda. Simplistic but snappy combat. Decent boss fights. Some slight puzzles so far.Any games it reminds of you of, specifically?
Thanks for the impressions. I bought this on a whim. Not exactly. Its obviously slightly like Zelda. Simplistic but snappy combat. Decent boss fights. Some slight puzzles so far.
But its a lot more melancholy and meditative. The mood is just super chill, almost like Monument Valley or something. Somber piano music the whole time that is really good. Lots of walking though empty spaces to piano music with cool architecture around.
Enemies have been very easy so far. The cool art style and general mood is carrying the game for me.
Kind of stuck now. Think I'm missing a puzzle element somehow.
So hyperbolic reviews for an indie "darling", I am shock. Thanks for the impressions. I bought this on a whim.
I’m frankly not super impressed, only played for 30 minutes though. Combat feels somehow slow and unresponsive, unlike a 60FPS game. Then I noticed when you die, they start you at the beginning of these big, maze like levels so you’ve got to walk your ass through all the bullshit to get back to where some enemy killed you.
Yawn. I probably won’t play this again despite buying it.

I dont know about that. I have played for around 3 hours so far and the game has definitely earned all the accolades it got. It is not doing anything particularly new when it comes to gameplay, but it does that pretty much flawlessly And it is all wrapped inside unique and pretty art design. Combat is not unresponsive, at least not on XSX and when did it became normal to complain about a tiny bit of punishment for dying? So hyperbolic reviews for an indie "darling", I am shock.
Yeah, you basically unlock the shortcuts as you go through the maze.Maybe should've played longer than 30 minutes because there are a LOT of shortcuts, usually specifically near boss battles that make the walk back remarkably easy.
Reflections on the floor are for a reason. Sometimes they reveal a secret that you don’t otherwise see.I heard there are a lot of secrets in the game so I am playing pretty exploratory. I for sure am somehow missing 2 plant seeds in the garden area. I've also only found 1 shiny object so far. Seems crazy that I could have missed items but there are also areas I can see but can't access at the moment. I assume I will be doing some backtracking throughout the game once I have additional abilities and such.
I 100% agree. All I'm leveling up is strength to increase my attack range for this very reason.I like it a lot but I hate that the character moves forward with every slash attack, enemies get cheap shots because of it.
Thanks for this, didn't even know this was possible, will check next time I boot up, I've found a few items.I'm only gonna say this, when you find an object, make sure to read the description and rotate the object in the inventory...
I'm hoping that since it's published by Digital Devolver it will make it's way over to PS4 / PS5 in the next 12 months. It's had good reviews, and at £20 it's a steal. Will be on my radar once it releases on PS4/PS5
I'm shit at solving puzzles so i didn't understood a thing that guy was sayingI am honestly surprise more people aren't talking about this game. It is bordering on perfect for me. 4 hours or so in and I just beat the first big soul boss. I'm taking my time exploring. I did find a ton of stuff I missed in the garden thanks to the chef dude in the Stranded Sailor area.
He's basically just giving a description of where to look for secrets. Take note of the where and go explore. The game is quite clever about giving small visual cues as an indicator of secret areas or passages.I'm shit at solving puzzles so i didn't understood a thing that guy was saying
Yep I really enjoy taking notice of secrets and keeping my eyes peeled for very cleverly hidden areas. The camera rotations are fun. He's basically just giving a description of where to look for secrets. Take note of the where and go explore. Can you miss any weapon? (Yes i have the umbrella already)Finished the game. It was pretty good and reminded me of Bloodborne, Ori, and Hollow Knight. 8/10.
I wish there were more weapons and mini-bosses though. The different biomes and level designs were pretty good. A lot of care, love, and passion went into this game, and it is visible in every frame. Great job by developers!
Yeah, I only got 4/5. I mean I could see the 5th weapon but I couldn't reach it, and I finished the main storyline once I got the missing power/ability that was required to get that weapon. Can you miss any weapon? (Yes i have the umbrella already)

The cool thing is that it is simple on the surface. To get all the upgrades and items is actually kind of tricky, especially when the game doesn’t really hold your hand. I found out how to use those giant manhole covers purely out of accident.Got it for $16 yesterday and played about an hour. I like it a lot so far. Simple, but tight controls and looks great. Good music too.
