December Wrasslin' |OT| Dreaming of a Vanilla Christmas

IMO if you think KoF XIV is better than SFV you're fucking crazy. I get that contrarian stances are rad and all but SFV is a ridiculously good fighting game with a ridiculous amount of bullshit that brings it down from online infrastructure to masterbatory character design. On the other hand KoF XIV is a broken mess that lacks the fun of KoF98 or the mighty fine mechanics of Garou, it also lacks any semblance of any production value.

Kidani went on twitter with a reaction to the WWE British tournament:

From Chris Charlton:

Kidani's being bullish I think but to sum up, he sees WWE as putting their eggs in a rights feed basket for so long and doesn't think. It sustainable in a post TV world. Network subscriptions only get them so far so opening worldwide territories can get their live revenue..Stronger as well as drive subscriptions.

Interesting. He also made this tweet:

Kidani '*but we will announce something soon*. We are entering a phase where you are either with WWE or against them'

That tweet makes it sound like a civil war is going to break out soon in wrestling throughout the world.

Guys, Flair's RAW draft is getting wrecked by McMahon's Smackdown! picks:

Smackdown!
1. The Rock
2. Kurt Angle
3. Chris Benoit

RAW
1. The Undertaker
2. nWo (Hall, Nash, X-Pac)
3. Kane

Dude, Naitch, what are you doing?

The concept that the nWo is even draftable shows how dumb they were.

The nWo go over by invading and not being just another guy.

So Vince and Dunn make them other guys....

We are still feeling the after effects of the invasion feud failing.

When Nakamura left it was probably a wake call for everyone.

Probably AJ more than Nakamura. Nakamura has always been treated as second rate in that company since his initial main push fell so flat. He was there and given titles because he was a draw but they never had any intent on making him 'the guy'

Kind of like a more successful version of Mr Perfect or Savage in the New Generation.

Honestly the WWE could be expanding more than ever. Nobody can out spend them and wrestling promotions still haven't figured out how to lure top investors and advertisers.

Plus the number one thing WWE has working for them is that they are a single entity. Meanwhile promotions that try to share talent end up switching shit up so quickly. Like ROH being run just as badly as TNA or NJPW pulling talent from NOAH.

Yeah, I've been trying with SFV and SNK products just shit all over it IMO. Pick any 2d SNK fighter and I'd likely find more in it than SFV to enjoy right now. Hell I really miss Neogeo Battle Colisseum to be honest. Kaede and K' on a team? Oh hell yes.

You don't have to miss NGBC, it's playable on Xbox One now.

SHOOTMAS Day 17

Frank Gotch Vs George "The Russian Lion" Hackenschmidt

I present to you one of the most famous wrestling feuds of all time. Crowds as large as 30,000 showed up in Chicago to watch these 2 men wrestle for the right to call themselves world champion.

First before we discuss the impact of the feud and the match itself lets look at the competitors.

Lets look at George Hackenschmidt:

"Picture the most perfect man, and you've described George Hackenschmidt." -- Frank Gotch

The best way to describe him was he was the worlds strongest man, the worlds best wrestler, and the worlds best bodybuilder all at the same time. He held world strength records and was way ahead of his time with his body building regime. This was before HGH, before steroids, and before bodybuilding was a popular art/sport. The man was a monster.

Now on to Frank Gotch:

The professional wrestler. Frank Gotch came out of Iowa to become one of if not the greatest wrestler to ever live. He would wrestle 160 times and lose 6 times. He steped into the ring with no skills and managed to hold his own against world champions and was trained in shoot holds under Farmer Burns. The toe holds that he would use along with the smart tactics of wearing Hackenschmidt down showed that his mind was his key weapon. He was the most popular athlete in America. He would even wrestle against Japanese Jiu Jitsu experts in the east room of the white house for President Teddy Roosevelt.

The promotion of the matches was epic. Gotch was traveling around the nation taking on all comers while calling out Hackenschmidt for ducking. It is again the simple truth that a long term feud between 2 people will always draw. Its a time old feud that can make money. Especially since there was a national interest of watching an American beat Hackenschmidt. Then when Hackenschmidt lost he demanded a rematch and claimed Gotch cheated by eye gouging and oiling himself up. Then he showed up at the rematch in front of 30,000 and was quickly pinned twice. (The first match he lost via surrender because of Gotch's toe holds). Claims of Gotch hiring somebody to injure Hackenschmidt also were floated around but those were proven false. All the drama with scripted wrestling mixed with shoot holds and wrestlers going out to just wrestle. Some fans were convinced the results were fixed.

Sadly this was in the early 1900's so we do not have video(or at least I was unable to find any) but the impact of this feud on professional wrestling, submission grappling, MMA, and freestyle wrestling lives on today.

I'm the last person I would consider an expert on this but I'd recommend everyone read up on it.

Damn. That's good.

Why would he wear those glasses?

Protect his eyes from meat sauce baby.

Old school stuff friend. He got me into it. He was a Chyna fan
Dope. Good taste Chyna was my girl back in the day. Now with you being in Cali and your heritage, did you go to see many lucha shows back on the day? And how big were they in the area? I know you said 97 was your favourite year but during that period and beforehand, I know it was even bigger than it is now.

Truthfully back then I was only WWE and WcW at the time. Little of ECW. I didn't start watching lucha til about 5- years ago when I started expanding, thanks to WrassleGaf
