It's been awhile since I played Deception. I may have to consider getting it.
Also, I'm disappointed there's a lack of Admiral Ackbar in this thread. It's one of the few places it'd be so appropriate, even if it's an old meme.
The Nun was my wakeup call, from that point I knew I had to learn which trap combos were sure shots and how important the layout was to giving me time to turn on traps without getting skewered.Played for about 4 hours in a row after getting my Vita version in the mail today.
It is really fun, and there is definitely more strategy now than there was when I played TRAPT, thanks to enemies "learning" the traps and the many different ways traps interact with each other now.
However, the Nun boss in Ch4 was a PAIN, as was the knight in Ch3 that could cause tremors.
Otherwise, fantastic game, still brings out the sadist in me, although I miss the square/triangle/cross layout for trap buttons, it's sorta back here, but not really.
Zeno Shin is a hoot, I'm always a fan of that archetype!

I noticed that, it's gotten to a point where the interlopers seem to be coming on a conveyor belt, 2 to 3 at a time with rough mixes of immunity, thankfully I'm learning to create traps that have backup properties in case of a pesky immunity mid sequence. This game gets hard a lot faster than any of the earlier games. You get, like, one chapter of idiots, then they are on you like that.
I really like the Deception series. I own the original Tecmo's Deception. However, this game looks like anime porn. Can anyone who has played this game confirm or deny if this game is about torturing anime babes so I can know if it's gross or not?
You torture both guys and gals with 2D daemon advisers that you can turn off.

I can be quoted as saying I was skipping this due to its "look"..would have regretted that decision immensely!! This is deception for sure, the anime 'helpers" even ended up growing on me!I really like the Deception series. I own the original Tecmo's Deception. However, this game looks like anime porn. This is just like the others. Arguably less anime than III and IV, since the protagonist has a spine this time, unlike Reina and Alicia.

This is kind of weird statement to make, especially since mechanically it's very similar to the previous games and I don't think the art style has change a whole lot from Trapt either. I could see someone finding the series offensive, but not having a problem with the previous games and then being offended by this game is odd.I really like the Deception series. Mission 58 is defeat 10 or more enemies out of 18..maybe a higher level mission adds more enemies!I spent entirely too much time playing this today (just cleared chap. 8) and I really need to get a better handle on the armor break stuff. The "weakness" thing will pop up all the time for me but I cant seem to bust their armor off. I guess a quick run through the armor break tutorial is in order.
I'm really surprised that there is no survival mode option in the menu. Didn't Trapt have that option or am I just imagining stuff? The quest creation and sharing seems like a more than generous trade though.
Heading into chapter nine, about to stop and sleep, I really hope this game has a new game+ I have trap concepts spinning around in my head, I'm able to hold 12 traps and use 7 on the field at this point. This game is like crack. I'm on Chapter 4 now after being up too late last night playing it.

my only problem with the game is that it could probably stand to have some more permanent gore effects. Seems weird having all this stuff happen to someone, then they keel over like they've died of exhaustion.
..that and the camera sometimes doesn't capture the action very well.
I am on Chapter 5 and... I hate this chapter so much.
Humiliating traps are great for "crowd control". Iron Rake for example, I can't remember an enemy that's immune to it. Doesn't do much damage but keeps them busy for a couple seconds, also moves them a square ahead which is great for setting up for another stationary trap. And I've been playing pretty much red traps exclusively with some blues thrown in, I NEVER touch orange at all, ironically. I get exp for orange when I accidentally complete a quest for her, like "go to this room".
FOR REALLLL! >__<
watching my replays and seeing the MC through most of it is ridiculous, the camera should at least have an option to stay on the victims the whole time -__-
Ha ha! JUST like that!
reminds me of Shinobi PS2 after you do one of those special finishers. you're supposed to see blood sprays and shinobi putting his sword away or something, but the camera's just pointing nowhere lol
Did not know that! Thanks for the awesome info! You can change the camera to focus on thevictimtarget by holding down the trigger opposite the lock-on button while you're locked on. So if you have lock-on by holding R1, hold L1 while holding R1 to have the camera shift to that target. It's useful for timing traps (and watching people get mauled), but it's not that practical since this game like throwing multiple enemies at once at you.
Been curious about this game, but I also just noticed today that Trapt was added to the PS2 classics section. Is there any reason to play that over the new one or should I just put those extra $10 towards Deception 4? Watched a few gameplay videos of both and the vibe of the older game seemed a bit better (somber?)
The new game is an upgrade in a lot of ways, I agree the tone is different to a degree, but the trap variety and emphasis on combo's makes that extra 10 dollars worth it.
Nice, guess I'll take the better play focus over tone.
