New Orleans right now.

Poor Tyreke just can't rid himself of that deadend franchise.

Stein needs to be reinstated for basketball reasons and save SAC from themselves.

Boogie seemed pretty committed to the team despite year after year of idiocy. I wonder what ultimately triggered the deal.

Control what destiny? They need a big and they need a superstar, Cousins would be both. He immediately solves their frontcourt issues.

There is NOBODY they can get either through the draft or leveraging these picks as assets before or during the draft that is as good as Cousins.

They done got played, hard.
From a basketball perspective, he's a good fit for them (assuming his head is in the right place, and I'm willing to give him a chance since he played for shitty all of his career). The problem is the contract.
As far as I know he would not sign an extension, so everything you give is in the hope that you can resign him next year, and with the cap going up the way it will, you know a ton of teams are going to throw a whole lot of money at him.
Now the Pelicans don't have a ton to lose, they have nothing really and that team is going nowhere fast, so you might as well go all in on that. But the Celtics are pretty well built and they're one star away from competing in earnest in the east, I don't think they need to make such high risk move, I think their assets can get them a more of a sure thing.

God damn Ive been on the fence about buying some ticket packages for the Pels now Im all over this shit. The last couple weeks everyone had been saying AD was gonna leave first chance he got but with the Bensons owning this team I knew we always had a chance to get some super stars. Benson knows thats what it takes to win a championship even if hes a football guy first

So fucking stoked. Hope they can keep him in line tho

A rental for a first round exit?

DMC is under contract for next season. This gives them a chance to see if he and AD can play together, and if they can't, they can always flip him again at next year's trade deadline. It's not like it'd be hard to get back close to what they gave up for him. If it works, you have DMC's bird rights and the odds that he resigns are high due to the new CBA. It's a no brainer for the Pelicans. Heild is a glorified D-leaguer and their first round picks would not have turned into anything as good as Cousins.

But what sure things are even on the market potentially? Paul George? Butler ain't gonna make you a challenger. Melo, LOOOOL no he toasted.

I just don't see what the market will shape that can get them a better player at a position of need than Boogie. George maybe but it's gonna take a ton to pry him away from Bird.

What is this I don't even.

This could be really interesting, or it could be a mistake to focus so much on front court play in a league that has clearly gone away from that. But even if it is, what have the Pelicans really lost by giving it a shot? not much that I can see.

If it works it will go down as the steal of the century, if it fails, it's not like the Pelicans were doing anything anyway.

So its a 1.5 year rental

They ain't doing shit with him and he ain't resigning there

When push comes to shove lets see him turn down the extra $70 million. I'll believe it when I see it.

Like, there is no rational way you can be even remotely critical of NO here. They gave up next to nothing.

I think people are still vastly underrating Jrue Holiday. I'm pretty surprised they didn't have to give him up. If they can re-sign him this summer (which I think they will), they go into next season with two top ten players and a borderline All-Star PG.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that team could definitely be good enough to convince Cousins to re-sign. I mean, that's better talent than he's ever had with the Kings and he was ready to sign long-term there.

This is the stupidest shit I've seen in a while, and Kyrie Irving just recently said that the earth is fucking flat.

The kings FO needs to be blown up.

Yeah, I'm bewildered that people are somehow criticizing the Pels here.

Like they went out and got a top ten player in the league. Those guys are rarely ever available, especially to a small-market team. You gotta jump on that shit if you ever have a chance.

I mean the pelicans basically got him for free so I get that, but at the end of the day I don't really believe this makes the pelicans a contender.

The Pelicans were very close on a deal for Jahlil Okafor about 10 days ago, offering a similar package except it didn't include Hield.
For those who don't know Okafor advance stats among other things paint Okafor as one of if not the worst center in the game. That should tell you how bad this Cousins trade is.

They aren't going to win this year. It's a risk that he won't resign or not. You can get a Nerlens Noel in free agency for 15-17 mill a year to act as a rim protector and rebounder. You can then leverage that #1 into the best prospect from this draft or another piece. I'd rather have the best player in this draft, Thomas and a free agent than Cousins for a year and hoping he doesn't stray from any of your plans

So the difference between Jahlil Okafor and DMC is basically Buddy fucking Hield? Fuck the Kings.

Yeah I don't get it either.

It may not work with the way the league works these days(on the other hand these are 2 of the best shooting big men in the game), but even if it doesn't you almost never get the chance to get a legit star player without giving up one in return, and the Pelicans were able to make it happen.

Pelicans are just like 3 games back of the 8th seed too

Warriors SHOOK, offensive rebounds are their biggest weakness

Ainge you damn dummy, all those fucking draft picks and you hoard them for nothing , blah

He's in his second year and can still grow. Dude can put up points. He just needs work

Wow... the fucking West man..

They basically gave his ass away. I think they were just tired of his ass and couldn't find any other better deal.

Then you'll continue to lose while effectively just waiting Lebron out.

If the C's were ever going to contend against Lebron, this is the deal they needed to do.
