The real winner tonight is Maddow because she pulled no punches.

But seriously. O'Malley and Sanders did really well in this format though O'Malley more so. Hillary just kinda flopped around a bit to me.
Agreed, Rachel Maddow is also my favorite political show of/on the 3 big news channels.

O'Malley really impressed me too.

I agree. She also wasted no time getting to the tough questions. She's be a great moderator at the debates.

Hillary's performance was weird, especially considering how on fire she was at the Benghazi hearing and the Rachel Maddow interview she had shortly afterwards, but sometimes it happens. Candidates are sometimes just not totally there and it shows.

I noticed neither FoxNews or CNN are covering the dwmocratic debate....like at all lol.

It wasn't a debate, it was a series of 1 on 1 interviews the kind of which happen all the time. Ratings and significance of what just happened are likely to be extremely low

It was one-on-one interviews basically, there were no confrontations or catfights, it was just talking about issues which the media doesn't care about, unfortunately. It wasn't sensationalist.

it was weird because she was obfuscating like a wizard on cocaine

I never like interviews like this because they're only good for the candidates who are behind. O'Malley came out well because nobody knows anything about him. Maddow did a nice job trying to explore new areas, but ultimately we know Hillary so well that nothing new or interesting is likely to come up.

These types of interviews/forums are never my favorite thing.

They serve little purpose for anyone who's not unknown. That's why "Unnamed Man" comes off so well in them, because people have seen so little of him. It doesn't benefit Sanders because he's well known enough. It doesn't help Clinton because she's the front runner.

Even if they're on the same stage, Hillary can't punch down to Sanders. There's no reason to call someone out on something when they're not there to defend themselves. This was, in some ways, a repeat of Bernie and Hillary's interviews last week. (Or the week before, I can't remember.)

I do love Rachel Maddow. I would love to see her host a Dem debate. Hell, I'd love to see any of the GOP clown car sit down with someone like that without a list of rules and questions that can be asked.

Can't build a 24 hour news cycle off reasonable people
Haha, well that makes sense. Sad our news has turned to sensationalism instead of honest news. (still remember CNN interrupted a lady talking about the Pateiot Act with "breaking news" of Beiber getting arrested...)

Hillary will do when it comes down to it, but how does anyone get excited for that candidacy, Christ.

Grin and bear it.

She's the leader and has all of the endorsements, so just vote for her because the alternative (repubs) are much worse.

Bring on 2024.

Nostalgia for me

Digimon is coming back, the powerpuff girls are coming back, rareware devs are making another platformer, twin peaks is coming back, Corey and Topanga came back, the Clintons are coming back

I bet the ratings for this event were awful. I only watched the first 20 minutes and it was so tiresome (friday of all days as well).

Hopefully they will never use this format again; People want to see sone sparks flying.

Jesus, I can't wrap my head around this. The debates have been, for the most part, a total clown show. I thought this format was great for drawing more substance out of the candidates. It was a nice change if pace.

I guess Americans get bored if there's not some sort of explosion or fireworks every few minutes.

It was MSNBC...on a Friday night. Bernie could've smoked a joint on stage and nobody would care.

True. I don't expect the ratings to be too high and I think that the recognition that this would be considered "boring" to the average American is the reason it hasn't gotten much publicity. I just don't think that's the fault of the format. It's the children who are wrong.

LOL

To be honest, seeing Rachel and the candidates toking on set while interviewing would have made for some great headlines! At any rate, I thought the forum was decent. Not great, not terrible.

The election would be much cooler with gladiatorial fights against lions and bears and then finally the candidates against other candidates.

... although Carson might have win that contest with his hammertime mode.

I thought it was a refreshing format. And it was nice that each candidate basically got the same amount of time. I think O'Malley in particular deserved that and benefited from it. Sanders got to expand on a few things as well, even though he reiterated a lot from the Democratic Debate.

Clinton dragged out her answers too much, I will say.

Bernie Sanders has the exact same problem Ron Paul had.

He can draw tens of thousands of people and has a huge Internet following but without party support you can't win. Even if he did win the primary he would never win the general election. He keeps making it a point that it's not Socialism it's Democratic Socialism....

It's the exact same thing, whoever the Republican would be would bury him in pretty much every debate.

That said I REALLY want to see Rand Paul vs Bernie Sanders in the general election. It would without question give the country a no bullshit representation on where we want to go as a Nation.

Sorry for the bump, but is this available online anywhere? I see the original live link is expired on MSNBC's site, and google searches return nothing. This debate completely flew under my radar.
