I tried this cause I wanted to make the game run on an old PC but I didn't notice any difference, so I just played it normally. Either it got patched or I'm just stupid.

People notice an expansion with the PC gaming market and the rise of revenue there as a good thing.
Is there any correlation with the use of DRM tools such as Denuvo for the precious first week or so sales window PC Gamers? Is DRM like that used less or more than it used to be?

Do you mean DRM packages like Denuvo, or just having DRM in general?
There have been various repackaged DRM systems, and many games have used them throughout the years. But the majority could just prevent the game from starting at all, or have check hidden at point that stop the game from working, or trigger things like hoards of invincible enemies, etc.
Denuvo works more like anti cheats where it's always running and checking things. Many PC games not have horrible micro stuttering that the console versions don't. And once Denuvo is removed they disappear.
Well see if games back off from Denuvo, as CD Project Red didn't use any DRM in the Witcher games, nor Cyber Punk 2077. Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't have any DRM, yes even the Steam version. And EA is releasing the new Dragon Age without Denuvo. Hopefully publishers are seeing they can be wildly successful, and that what Denuvo is charging ends up being more than the people who won't buy the game until it's removed would have brought in before the discounts.

It is used about as much as it was in the past i'd say, perhaps even less. As the guy above said there are tons of games that use no DRM solution for their games and still went on to become top sellers.
The rise of the digital market probably had a much larger influence on the growth of PC gaming than any particular anti-piracy solution. Availability used to be one of the major drivers behind piracy after all.

I knew the second I read the study that companies would RUN with this statistic as a big "WE'RE OFFERING A SOLUTION. SEE!" As if was in the best interest of the consumer. They're going to beat this dead horse until its paste.
Here's the proof of that. "I'm a gamer, but Denuvo really helps, there was this study that blah blah blah." Going forward we're going to hear from companies, Denuvo included, how the addition of Denuvo is justified because "ThE sTuDy ShOwS tHe BeNeFiTs" with little concern of care for the consumer so they can protect their 20%.

Tons of games suffer from worse performance and stutters.

Stupid wording by him yes, but the fact that this is what everyone is focusing on just shows how unreasonable discourse is in the gaming community (including RPS who used it as an easy soundbyte).

Yea that’s what I’m saying. Denuvo is terrible. If they could accomplish their goal without affecting performance or having activation limits etc, I wouldn’t care.

Some of the Denuvo developers are former cracking scene sellouts, so them being "gamers" is not unbelievable. They're also extremely talented at what they do, that's why the SCENE became so weak shortly after Denuvo appeared on the market back in 2014. Some reverse engineers, such as CPY, CODEX(EMPRESS did their Denuvo cracks), EMPRESS(legit crazy or false persona) and Voksi, tackled Denuvo for a while but they all threw in the towel eventually. Except Voksi, that guy almost got some jail time after doing an interview with TorrentFreak piracy news site and not even bothering to obscure his actual location/identity. 3DM, a Chinese SCENE group, were right, "video game piracy is dead". They were referring to AAA titles, of course.
