As a console gamer my whole life, I think I'm going PC next gen.

But I'm all about big screen gaming, 65 inch or larger. Laptop ideal for that?
As long as the laptop has HDMI output, it's the same as with a console. Just plug and play.

Before I build my desktop machine I was rocking a laptop with a GTX 1060. That shit gave me tons of fun, and worked much better than my PS4 Pro.

You can connect to the tv with hdmi or other methods. Though if thats the main intended use its good to check what the hdmi port supports just in case (like max resolution, frequency, etc)

I am strongly considering the same. I know their are downsides.

I used to be someone who said they couldn't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. And I think for a while maybe I couldn't. But playing Clair Obscure on the base PS5 really opened my eyes between Performamce and Quality mode. FFVII Rebirth was another one. I think I'd rather just figure out how to make it work on PC.

For those suggesting getting a gaming laptop, I bought a Dell XPS 15 last year with the following specs:

13th Generation Intel® Core™ i9-13900H Processor (24MB Cache, up to 5.4 GHz, 14 cores)
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™4070 Laptop GPU 8GB GDDR6 (40W)
32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz, dual-channel

Can I run something like a Clair Obscure on this? I ask because my thought is if my current laptop can run some things decently I can play around with PC gaming with my current laptop until I'm ready to build an actual gaming rig.

Should've gotten a PC long time ago..

Being stuck on ancient weak hardware for 7+ years is not recommended for any gamer with self respect

Interesting. It's an option, but for now I'm gonna stick with my Series X, and the plan is to see what the next Xbox is going to be like. Sure it's great to have access to Steam, better prices for games too, but it's Xbox where I got my ever growing backlog too.

If you are lucky and MS decides to fully go down the "PCs with the Xbox brand" route, you might end up getting your Xbox library available in the MS PC store later down the line.

From what I've read they still want to have it behave like a console but it's like a PC, whatever tf that means. Just give me the user friendly experience of console. Ideally we get that and Steam added to that, that be amazing.

This is the face i got since 2023 when Sony has completely abandoned making video games.

Being in denial, and pretend like the current situation is OK, ain't gonna get you anywhere. UNLESS you're one of those who log in to play the yearly fifa, cod, nfl, nba slop, and that's enough for your gaming needs.
I mean if you feel like this, Im sorry for you whatever I can say. It's surely the worst generation in terms of first party exclusives, I'm not deny that but honestly I like the ps5 pro hardware. Hardware upscaler is all I wanted on base ps5.

I made the jump and game mainly on the TV, for now anyway. It was well worth it. The performance increase was nice but the game selection, mods, game options, access to betas, etc is really the biggest difference

Yo saaaame. Its time. I told myself whenever the next gen of consoles release, gonna skip and save up for PC. PS6 or whatever next xbox is... pass.

Welcome home, PC (Steam) is the best platform for all games.
  • Don't like something? refund as much you want
  • No DLSS? get a mod, hook it and use
  • Motion sick? Fuck with FOV, motion blur and other post processing as much you want, edit ini files, get mods
  • Edit while a game is running using CE
  • Free cloud saves, free MP
  • Often Cheap as chips prices
  • Low end hardware? no problem. Medium? We got you. High? yes sir! Extreme, oh boy, absolutely.
  • Got bored with games? Well it's a PC, do anything else. Work, watch or goon?!

Negatives:
  • Expensive

Many people who doesn't have PC criticize it like "Too complicated" but as a matter of fact it isn't. I know that when you are on console environment the predetermined system settings kinda soothes the brain but on PC you can do that as well.

I play games on PC same as console. Open PC, open Steam, start the game. Maybe even faster. I don't have unnecessary 3rd party softwares unless it is absolutely necessary. My startup program is just Windows virus program and thats it. If you keep your PC not inflated with unnecesarry programs you really have console experience in the end.

The main and most important difference on PC is that when you want to tweak anything you can do it. You can be a power user with your hearts content. But to hell with that? Yes, you can %95 percent can imitate consoles as well. And thats the good part of being on PC: Freedom.

For example I'm using my PC with LG C2 + soundbar right now. When I want, I pull my sofa if I wanna go full "console-like". Or using chair to switch back "PC-like". Like I said; freedom. Even in your room.

This forum is always a bit trippy for me because everyone I know plays on PC. I haven't heard console talk from anyone in the last decade. I used consoles when I was young and didn't have access to money but now that I am older and have financial resources I only use PC. This is what I have seen from all of my friends as well.

Consoles have a smaller upfront cost but significantly higher continuation costs where PC is the opposite.

PC just seems smarter over the long term as consoles phase out.

But then again I have no idea what is going on in the console space so maybe I am way off.

Too many normies think the only allure to PC gaming is 4K and 144fps. It's not. It's emulation, game variety, multiple storefronts, modular harware, unlimited peripheral choice, piracy, free online play, modding, communities, etc etc. I've literally put 2000 hours into modded Arma 3. Can't do that on console.

My only gripe stopping me going the PC/GamePass route is the cost of entry Vs a console. Couch gaming I don't want loud fans or a big tower. Small powerful PC's cost more and it's not something I'm willing to push to get I think.

I'm with you on this. PC lets you tap in to apart of gaming that is not capable on console. You have full control on how you want to approach gaming weither its mods, retro gaming, current gen or hell even mobile gaming if you want to. Plus you can use any gamepad known to man on there.

Couch PC gamer and PS5 Pro gamer here.

PC quietness is easy. Get a good breathing case. Install quality fans. Set a static fan speed for them to the noise level you want.

CPU cooler is the same- run at max then back off to a noise level you want then set that as your maximum. Set the fan curve as you wish up to that maximum you previously set. I run a Deepcool AK620 which works well for basically any gaming workload.

GPUs with silent bios switch on them is easiest to work with. My Asus TUF OC was loud at normal bios. Flipped the switch and now silence without any noticable perf loss.

You don't need a small case. Just get a PC stand and run a nice case beside your TV setup. I have mine on a desk beside my home theater setup since the space doubles as my work environment.

If they don't mind they could add you to their family group, meaning you'll have access to a lot of games right from the get go. I did that for 2 of my irl friends and they are still thanking me lol.
This is probably THE BEST feature on PC, not just Steam. I have a family with 5 other long time friends and it's glorious. Pretty much no restrictions (except playing the same game at the same time which is obvious) and since we are all buying games it's an endless source of games lol.

Mikey Jr. Mikey Jr. you should really search for a few friends to add on Steam/Familly sharing.

Loud fans is only a problem if your sound system sucks and a "big" tower is a non issue as it is just ~18 cm x 50 cm.

So I need to get geeky with fan curves and spend extra on cooling?

How much do I need to spend to get a console like experience?
I'm guessing £1500 would be enough?

I wouldn't say geeky. Adjust until the noise bothers you then leave it slightly below that. If you can tune a fan in your car's climate control, you can do it for a PC.

Console like- 5060ti by modern GPUs if using the Pro as a baseline. 7600x CPU is easy to cool, inexpensive and has easily 2.5x the power of the PS5 CPU. Cost will depend on your region. My 7600x/9070xt build has been great.

Does your TV do VRR? 60hz or 120hz?

Agreed. And in my opinion, go for Linux/SteamOS build better performance, no bloatware and with Steam/GOG Cloud saves go with you and you can get a portable down the line.

4k 120 vrr allm all that stuff yes

cope. Even if you look forward to this slop, it will be not worth playing at 30fps.
I'm literally waiting for however long it take for the PC release. I will not subject myself to playing GTA 6, of all games, at 30fps. That game is going to look glorious in a high framerate.

Yes I have made this mistake with GTA5 and it won't happen again. 30fps was more standard back then but I was already mostly a PC gamer. Has soured the whole experience for me because when I played the PC version later there was nothing fresh about it.

Yea I am feeling similar. I used to be pc back in the mid to late 90's but have generally been console since the turn of the century.

I dont know if its me getting older or if playstation have lost their spark but I am going back to pc in the next 6 months. I used to game on playstation for the 1st party exclusives but these seem to have either dried up or are remasters of games I have already platinumed and have no desire to go back to (Days Gone as an example).

Im fed up of paying for online and cloud saves every year. Fed up with games costing £69.99 which is equivalent to $95. When games were £49.99 i brought a game every month but it has to be something special now to get day one if they are charging 70 quid.

I like the fact that if I get a pc I can play everything from the last 40 years on one device and dont even get me started on game mods which can breath life into old games (final fantasy 7 mods as an example).

I wont get rid of the playstation just in case the odd game comes out which is genuinely a good exclusive but the ps5 will be going in one of the kids room to be a Fortnite/Fifa machine in the near future.

Im very excited going back to pc, I remember the joy of getting my voodoo3 graphics card and marvelling at how realistic everything looked :) I cant wait to build the thing, just closely monitoring gpu prices at the moment.

I can't use it. Says my friend isn't in the same household.

To fix that, grab your friends credentials and log in with that account on your computer.

And for the record: I don't do this! All my friends live in my house, we are like a hippie community but with videogames and drugs instead of drugs.

opposite here. I sold off my gaming pc 2 years ago after way too many years.
I didn't swear off pcgaming but still haven't got back. I only have a Switch 2 now.

I've said that I'm put off PC gaming because of the cost. However, I've looked into it, and it actually isn't that bad.

Yes, if you go for a pre-built custom PC rocking a 5090 than it's going to cost thousands. However, I'm not interested in path tracing or 4K gaming. I'm happy with a mid range. I'd mostly be playing Total War, Planet Coaster 2 and RTS games, so I don't need a monster rig.

Looking at some parts, an RX 9060 XT (16GB) would set me back around £360. I can pick up a decent AMD CPU for £200. I reckon I could buy all the parts (not including the monitor) for maybe a little over a grand and have a decent mid range that'll last me a few years.

Pay reviews are coming up in November. I'm on track for a 8% pay rise and a four figure bonus. 100% going to jump on the PC train and leave consoles behind by the end of the year.

I play my Steam Deck the most, but it looks like crap on a 4k display. I think I am done for the time being with new consoles and plan to ride the cross-gen train for awhile. It's a bit too expensive and I just don't play the new stuff anymore…mainly remakes and remasters.

The way things have naturally gone, can't blame you. I still believe in PlayStation but have been entrenched in PC since the 90's and really as my primary (for the 2nd time) since the 2500k.

Where we are going, I see a handheld like my current ROG Ally and potentially a PS handheld being my primary drivers to compliment my PC.
