As a console gamer my whole life, I think I'm going PC next gen.

I made the change about a year ago too and I'm rather happy with it.

The constant price increases of plus are what did it to me.

I was worried about leaving my library behind but the number of games I get for free, and to keep, from epic and Amazon make up for it.

It's a little finicky at times I agree and I hope that improves but it's not too bad. Saving 150 a year on plus doesn't hurt and my computer was nearly free so that made it easier still.

I kept an old Sony machine for the library.
Wish I had chosen to keep the silent PS5 instead I sold it and kept the jet engine PS4 pro.
If anyone is thinking of doing the same, remember the PS5 is silent, keep that sucker.

Slowly rebuying some Sony library on PC.

You say that, but in reality you're just trading in a greasy cheetos covered controller, for a donut glazed keyboard....

Same, I actually have more games on PC than PS5 at this point. Buying at publisher/summer sales.
I still lack Gran Turismo 7, Demon's Souls and TLOUp2 (not really interested but I would buy it if it was dirt cheap). Hoping for ports on the first 2.

As for the thread content…
I started doing the move for real about a year ago. I think the yearly stats showed sub 10 hours on both XSX and PS5 in 2024. Haven't powered on PS5 this year. XSX was only powered on because a kid has a The Witness playthrough going. I haven't touched it in 2024.

I boot into Playnite's full screen mode now to access all launcher's games from the couch, so all the pieces are falling into place to completely replace consoles. Besides Nintendo, I'm still using their consoles.

The hardware cost is brutal, probably the only real complaint I have left. But if things don't break I shouldn't have to upgrade for a long time now.

I've always been a PC and Console gamer and I'll always be a PC and Console gamer.

99% of the time PC will kill console performance, etc... However, the one thing that modern consoles excel at is being able to pause your game mid-session, sleep the console, and pick up playing right where you left off hours or days later. You absolutely can't do that on PC and it's the one killer feature that consoles have as far as I'm concerned.

My criteria for playing on PC vs Console increasingly boils down to my ability to save anywhere in the game. If I can, then I will absolutely play on PC. If I can't, then I'm playing on console so that I can pause/sleep the game when needed.

Black Ops 6 reminded me why I play on both (directx crashing errors).

That, and I can't get NHL on PC. So console, and unfortunately PS Plus costs, are in my foreseeable future.

I have mostly done the same but I will be honest the PS5 experience isn't that much different to PC in terms of performance and graphics.

60fps is absolutely fine and a great experience for 95% of games. Only really FPS or competitive online games where higher frames really benefit.

I feel like 120fps on PC feels and plays like 60fps on console. Its just more consistent and smooth on ps5. I dont thunk people talk enough about the lows on PC vs console. On console 60fps is mostly locked whilst on PC you can get 120 plus but it will dip to 60 and below on some games which does not feel as smooth at all.

Lastly I was talking to a friend about the graphic and performance on PC and yes its absolutely and factually better but if youve played stellar blade on ps5 at 60 a year ago and then play it a year later on PC the core experience is the exact same. PC doesn't suddenly make it different or better its just of a higher quality. Sort of like watching a movie on a streaming service then buying the 4k blu ray , yes it is better but your watching the same movie and you won't feel anything unique from either one.

So for me the whole thing comes down library and access which PC is getting there but you can have a streamlined and easy experience on console.

I've come to appreciate both is what I am.saying.

Been there done that.
PS4 honestly was the worst console generation tech wise. The CPU was ancient, so was the HDD streaming. At that time, PC was miles ahead.
These days, I'm not so sure. GPUs are more expensive, not all games benefit from performance gains of frame gen and so on.
Weird bugs/issues that only you have are still part of some games, although it has gotten a lot better.
I think I'll stick with PS5 Pro as my main gaming platform for the next couple of years.

Ive got all the parts for my PC build in my Amazon cart but cant get myself to pull the trigger...

Its a total of 1300 - and does seem to be pretty solid parts wise but that amount of money is a month of my mortgage lol

Plus, the rebuying of games I want will be more money but cheaper than console I know.

Also, I just dont seem to be playing much at the moment and am a bit fed up or bored of games, plus having 2 young children that are only going to be staying up later in the evening as time goes on will limit my gaming time even more!

Im not going to be at a desk for gaming, Im a TV, controller and sofa guy so even though I really want to try PC gaming (building it looks satisfying) Im wondering if its actually worth it for me.

Hooking my pc up to my tv, in the living room is the best decision ever.

Every sorts of games, emulators , browser, all video providers.. Its the best of all worlds.

Dont forget the controller :)
