As a console gamer my whole life, I think I'm going PC next gen.

That's only some Sony games and that's what, 1% of all the new games?

I'd recommend it mostly if you already have a nice Steam library. The Deck sure is the backlog killer, it's motivated me to play a lot of indies and old games in it.
it's the games that I want to play.
I don't care about 500 steam trash games.
I care about death stranding 2 and plsying it right now.
And believe me, if hl3 comes out and it's pc exclusive, I am getting 5080 tomorrow

1. Paying for online is frankly bullshit.
I bought hell divers 2 on launch on PlayStation and a month of online which cost me 14 Canadian.
So PC players who bought it on steam and Sony got 70% of that vs me who bought it on console and gave 100%, I also have to pay an extra fee to play it?
Man fuck you lol
Once we realize this, it becomes impossible to accept paying for online services. Even when GPU prices seem so expensive, every time I think about getting a console, I always ask myself:
On PC, I don't have to worry about when I'll want to play an online game.
Maybe I'll play obsessively for weeks, then not touch it for months, and later feel like playing again.
On consoles, I would have to carefully choose the period when I'm going to play—I wouldn't have the freedom to just step away and come back whenever I want.

Its not all sunshine and rainbows. 9070xt PC and PS5 Pro owner.

Like for me- every game runs great, BUT:

- COD BLOPS 6 is plagued with DirectX crashes for months now without a fix. I can't play at all. Resurgence and MW2 are problem free.

- Pathtracing keeps crashing (9070xt issue) on CP2077.

- Helldivers 2 had an issue with a setting that constantly crashed. Only way around it was to lower it even though your GPU can handle it just fine (SSR I believe).

- Stutter can be worse than console on stuttery games (Dead Space and UE5 games in general come to mind).

PC does provide generally a better experience (if you have the $$$) and no online cost like console, however you may need to deal with issues that may actually stop you from playing certains games for an unknown period of time.
If you own a 9070 XT and still have to deal with problems like this, I can't imagine how a more modest build would handle PC games.

Since 2015, I've been gaming on consoles, and honestly, I don't want to go back. Every time I try to use my PC as a gaming machine, I run into some issue — random crashes, the controller disconnecting, cheaters in some multiplayer games, needing to open an external launcher even when I own the game on Steam, and so on.

I think people overestimate the value of gaming on PC. It does have some advantages, of course, but consoles offer a much more straightforward, plug-and-play experience.

*PC Version. It was unplayable on my PC. I've not played the console version because I wasn't going to buy the game again.
On mine wasn't. 🤷‍♂️

Or people that overestimate the issues.

Let's be real. As a PC gamer myself that doesn't use it as a fanboy service like the weird PCMR geeks, PC gaming isn't just "oh boy, time to game!" like they make it out to be. Make sure you have a somewhat tech savvy brain. Not every game that's ported just works. Heck, go look at Neir Automata or MH Wilds for examples. It's easier to PC game today but that doesn't mean its just plug and play. If you want that experience, just buy a Steamdeck. If you want to deal with the completely broken BS that is Windows 11, go for it. No way you'll figure out Linux if you just want to sit down and play. If you can, grab Win10 and hope they extend it longer. But stay away from Win11. It's a pos.

I've know multiple friends who thought they wanted PCs and then realized it was way more expensive and still full of headaches for their tech level. You're not paying for some garbage services to have cloud gaming. Cool. You're paying for ridiculously overpriced PC parts instead. The jump in cost for PC gaming in the past 10 years looks like the US government got involved in spending.

Just remember that a lot of the PCMR are no different than any console fanboy. They're a bunch of pathetic losers that want to make their system seem more popular and cool.

edit: piggybacking on some of the issues, I have a personal example where Windows 11 randomly decides I don't have a bluetooth speaker hooked up anymore and just refuses to play audio. The fix is turning the Bose system on and off multiple times until it works. Then it will work and if I load YouTube or something web based, it breaks again and I have to repeat the steps. I've also had explorer crash several times when it's trying to figure out what's in a folder. Another fun bug, while copying over a mod I found, it froze and then decided to break the file I was copying. It was still using the storage space but decided it was a corrupted file. I've been on a PC for 30 years and it's a heck of a lot easier, but not much better lol

Gotta be honest, the only one I've bought so far is Stellar Blade. All the others are meh (to me).

Guess it depends on if OP really wants to play those games or not.

Value is subjective so its entirely up to the person.

There is value in console plug and play. Anytime I run into issues on my PC (seldom but happens) I remember why I was console for a long long time up until three years ago. More VRR uncapped 60fps modes could swing me back.

But there is a ton of value of choosing your own experience based on hardware and your own preferences, something that is sort of coming to console with performance modes, but is no where near what PC offers (if you care about it). Sony's online fee is $109 CAD which translates to $125 after tax which is… massive oooof.

Why wait for next gen? I dont think you're gaining/losing anything from waiting. Going to console id understand if you were to wait for the next big launch.

I switched to PC this gen and I kinda regret it. PS5 is the first Playstation I didn't buy (including portables).

On paper PC has everything...but too much tweaking needed and games are not as optimized or stable. Even Bluetooth controllers don't work as well as they do on consoles.

Disclaimer: my experience has been with PC laptops and handhelds connected to external GPUs.

I mainly use my PC for the classic RTS's and point and click games, which are few and far between on the consoles...

It's not a port and the 720p console version is better how??

Except MKW, all are on PC and better. Eventually MKW and the rest will also go to PC.

You waited 2-3 years for Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon, etc too and they are filled with issues too. OP will be ok.
I didn't wait.
It's a shit not worth waiting for.... and I have a pc to play that on if I wanted to

I understand your point. I have a 3060, and sometimes I look for an upgrade, but with the price of a single GPU (like a 5070), I could pay for years of Plus, buy games, and even partially cover the cost of a PS6.

I like the idea that when you buy a console, you don't have to worry about anything. Most games will run well for years. And I especially like how quiet the PS5 is — it always impresses me how it can run demanding games without making any noise.

As long as you're okay with playing some games a year or so after they're released on console. I think that first year will be a little rough as you see new releases you can't play.
But after that 1st year, you'll start to get a steady stream of console exclusive releases on PC.
But it's not that bad, as most games nowadays have simultaneous releases on PC and console anyway.

People saying you need to fiddle with every game settings .. that's BS. I usually never mess with settings these days. Only if it's bluntly obvious that it's in a low resolution.

I have a gaming pc that boots straight to steam
Big picture mode. I only ever use a keyboard if windows wants to throw some BS alert up and what not. Most of the time I hit a button on my controller which brings my pc out of sleep and to my game selection.

I encourage anyone here who are disappointed with their PS5 or Xbox to move to PC or a PC-like machine when next gen hits. You will feel happier because you will be less obligated to find a reason to keep a console that you wouldn't have wanted in the first place.

Things have been made easier than ever before to set up a PC so that it feels as console-like as possible, and like others have stated, almost all game releases at this point are coming to PC anyway.

Rip the band-aid off.

Seriously considering it myself but I can wait to see what the PS6 is gonna bring to the table but with the Pro being such a disappointment I'm honestly not expecting that much of a leap, my only issue with switching to PC gaming is the initial cost, I would have serious fomo and would end up buying a 6090 as having any graphical setting not on ultra would annoy me like it used to when I did game on PC

PC gaming is great but so is console gaming. I am not wealthy but I budget to where I can play on both. Always have and always will. 🫶🫶🫶

HL3 is the only PC game I would give a shit about. I'd probably just use geforce now for a month instead of setting up a whole new PC since I just have no desire to ever go back to that ecosystem.

Yea anytime I went to PC gaming I always had to have a top of the line card. It was always the second best card. So whatever was the top card I got whatever was right below it. I wouldn't even entertain PC gaming if I couldn't do that.

No, for a few reasons.

1. I don't pay to play online since I prefer single-player games. That being said, I find paying for online/cloud saves to be nothing but greedy bullshit and always have.

2. I get that PC gaming is mostly a seamless experience, but there's times when it's not - I don't want to deal with those times at all.

3. Investing into PC gaming, the PC itself, is exorbitant in my country. As well, since I buy physical and have never had an issue with waiting for price drops, it isn't cheaper for me to play on PC in terms of game prices.

4. As for stuff like demos and folders, not important enough for me to switch platforms.

5. Sony porting to PS has no impact on my enjoyment of their games but certainly by doing so, they have indeed given one less reason to own their console.

It's good that you've given yourself time to research and prepare for the change. I hope it goes well for you and, even though I don't share your conclusion, your reasoning is very sound - the free online will save you a tonne of money, for example. Good luck with it.

As a console gamer (after getting tired of the bullshit involved with pc gaming) myself who is sick of fanboys on any side it's a breath of fresh air seeing a pc gamer talking about pc gaming sincerely. Rarely we can see such a truthful post like yours

There's still not a real Steam Machine on the market. I'd pay over $1,000 for a TV ready console with SteamOS and Gamepass.

(I know that you can kind of make this work. I want the real deal, with a user base and support.)

Why wait? Do it now. Better hardware, choice of input, ultrawide support, multi-monitor support, choice of storefronts, incredibly wide selection of games, etc, etc. I took the plunge last year after 20 years away from it and feel like I came home.

You really don't need this shit. If you have been gaming on consoles, a 9070XT or a 5070Ti is much better vs PS5 Pro.

GPU prices have been coming down and you don't need 9800x3D to game. Initial price will be higher but considering the cross gen period, the cards above will last years.

GPU prices have been coming down? What world do you live in?

PC + Nintendo (for nintendo games only) has been plenty enough for me

Getting all microsoft games day 1 and Sony's "eventually" just seals the deal that I'll never buy one of their consoles. If Nintendo would jump in I would also throw buying their console under the bus.
