RAID LORE QUESTION..

I went straight in last night, so I may have missed the answer, but...

Why are we going there? What happened to let us know there's something there now, that wasn't there before?

So I have just gotten to level 20, and started the story missions on Io. But I am wondering how levelling works now. My overall power seems somewhat understandable (get better loot), but I am also still filling up an xp bar, but what happens when I fill it?

Sitting at 264. Was 249 yesterday but after turning in all my tokens, got to 260 and then after doing some of the ‘powerful gear' quests I got to 264. One hitch I've run into is that I dismantled a lot of my blue gear once I realized you could turn them into the weapon smith, and after infusing my Exotic chest to 262, I figured I was good. Of course I get a 274 exotic helm drop this morning and now I don't have any chest higher than 225 (kept all my legendaries) so the only option would be infusing my legendary chest w/ the Exotic, but I think I'll just farm until I get a new chest. Only allowing 1 exotic was annoying to me at first but now I like it since it forces you to make tough decisions.

Still haven't even dipped my toe into non solo stuff, ran 2 strikes but other than that have not grouped for anything. Need to pick a mic up and give Nightfall a shot this weekend. I really love this game.

Sorry but you effed up lol. You should have waited until 260 to turn in tokens and then until 265 to do the powerful gear quests. the grind from 265 is rough because no legendaries drop over 265, the vanguard, crucible, faction and gunsmith packages also drop at 265. The post campaign story missions on each planet (the blue icons) give you better legendary gear and exotic quests upon completion so do that next.

Oh and go to eververse and buy as many of those better loot/xp tokens as you can. they increase the chance of exotic drops. i didnt know about them until last night. spent 9 hours playing the fucking game with zero exotic engrams.

Any spoiler free raid impressions? Where does it rank? I assume it's the same kind of thing as before, nothing really groundbreaking that feels like a true sequel.

I have only done two encounters so these are early impressions but i dont like it. it's very mechanic heavy like King's Fall except for the fact that King's Fall had DPS phases where you had protection from incoming attacks. this feels like a clusterfuck because they have like a million adds and still expect you to execute all the mechanics.

The biggest issue is the limited weapon set. You no longer have shotguns in the secondary slot which means clearing out adds takes too long and is not very efficient. the supers take forever to recharge because there are no perks on armors and weapons that feed your supers. all that simplification of weapons, abilities and armors had to come back to bite them and it hurts the raid the most.

You get an engram each time that you can turn in at eververse.

Can someone with high PL help me through Nightfall regarding Rat King-quest? I an 269 but there is that time requirement-thing.. :/

I'd be online about 4 hours from now.

Online now hoping to help someone for Nightfall. PM me on xbox live gamertag LifeExpectancy. Willing to sherpa two newbies through nightfall either regular or prestige (290+ for prestige isbest but willing to try 280+ peops).

RAID LORE QUESTION..

I went straight in last night, so I may have missed the answer, but...

Why are we going there? What happened to let us know there's something there now, that wasn't there before?

I think we were invited after we killed Gary. The person who invited us saw our potential and is now wanting us to prove our worth for something he needs us to do.

Thanks, should I just be cashing these in whenever I get them, or should I be hoarding them for when my power level is higher?

The eververse stuff is just cosmetic so you can redeem them whenever

At least that's my understanding of it, i have redeemed about 4 and none of the rewards have been LL related

Yeah, didn't finish the raid but wanted to echo some of these comments.

Without getting into spoilers, the raid is absolutely beautiful. The music, visuals, secret passageways, and general "idea" of the raid are all excellent (proving yourself in trials, versus straight up murdering stuff).

Its easily the coolest area in D2, for sure. So kudos to the design team!

Light, light spoilers that I'm tagging just in case:
However the encounters lack a sense of adventure that the other raids had. The second encounter in particular feels like work ("Complete my ill conceived puzzle, Guardian!") and reminds me of Oryx in that a few stupid little things can go wrong and suddenly you need to wipe halfway through the encounter because some tiny detail of your plan is off. When you beat it you're happy to be done with it, but you don't feel like you've triumphed over anything but a puzzlebox that hates you :(

I thought the first encounter was fine, and it was a lot of fun to piece together based on environmental and contextual clues. The third encounter is easy to grasp 90% of, but relies on you figuring out a tiny detail that it doesn't hint at or reinforce in any way. And thats where my group got stuck (trying to figure it out blind). The "intermission" encounter is fine, and was fun to solve for the first time.

Overall its neat, and great to see the raid designers toying with different non-"shoot this dude in the weak spot" mechanics, but lacks a feeling of purpose or accomplishment or even momentum. We'll see how I feel about the last encounter when I get to it, but I don't think much will change.

The answer to your question is in the special editions. If you wanna know why youre even playing that part of the game for, you shouldve spent more money, or ask a previlaged player who payed more lol

There is a guide in the OP. But this is a summary.

- After level 20. Before you hit Light Level 259. Only do the following:
- Public Events.
- Adventures
- Loot Caves
- Other open world activities that earn you tokens.
- Do NOT spend any tokens until you hit 259.
- Use blue drops from all those activities to increase your light level based on gear
- Do not worry about the bar. It just gives you bright engram which only gives you cosmetic gear that you otherwise have to spend money for.

After you hit level 259:
-Turn in all your tokens. You should have around 200 by now.
- Cant rely on blues after 259 so you have to save your tokens for legendary weapons.
- Should hit 265. 259-265 grind is real so be sure to save at least 150 tokens for this step.
- If you dont have enough to hit 265, run some strikes. or get Cayde's chests. Buy a map from him.

After you hit level 265:
- Now do milestones that appear on the destination menu when you press L2.
- Also do the Blue missions on each planet.
- Run Some strikes to get the nightfall quest
- Buy bonus xp tokens from eververse using bright dust to increase a chance for exotic engrams.

Grrr, I really don't like how primitive the clan tools are. The membership limit is still 100, which means if you have a lot of people who want to play on PSN/XB1 and PC that cuts it down to 50 people. There is zero way I can tell to quickly spot who isn't logging in or playing anymore, you have to almost do detective work and dig into each persons history to see if they still want to play.
Why implement all these clan banner and guided game features if the clan limit is still 100, across all 3 platforms :(

I hear ya. Like who is actually playing and who is not? I remember Resistance 2 have a great stat spread for SP and MP for the clan page. I would love to see that in Destiny...

Really wish I could slam my clan banner into the ground at will. Like after a public event, raid, strike completion etc.
When I got the clan banner I actually thought that would be a given. Like of course I'd be able to display it. How do I do it. I can't? WTF.

I'm surprised we have not gotten a chance to get server specific "
towers
or farms assigned by clan or group. It would be pretty awesome to get a NeoGAF specific area that we could all plant our clan flags at and make that our dedicated social area. White Knight Chronicles did this for clans and gave cosmetic perks as the clan leveled up.

Still no twerking emote..
Would be pretty funny, but you can obviously see why they run away from this. Maybe do the worm instead? lol

We really should put a clean and coordinated list together and send to Luke to see if any of them are possibilities.

Anyone able to help me on a quest?
Exodus Black strike for the Sturn quest. I keep dying at the part where you need to defend the Ghost while it does some stuff
. I did it last night through Strike matchmaking but it didn't complete the objective.

The collector's edition has an invitation to the giant ship now on the map screen.

Even without knowing that, though, just imagine that you and five other Guardians see this giant-ass ship and decide to investigate, which isn't far from the setup for most of the raids.
In the raid Calus basically fills you in that hes testing you.

Everyone keeps saying you have to wait, you messed you, etc etc about it. Yet I didn't wait at all, didn't even do the flashpoint last week, yet was at 286 light before the reset. Just playing the game. To everyone so worried about it, just play the game. The loot system is miles better before in terms of getting you geared for the raid that drops no gear.

Is waiting probably overall quicker to getting that 290 light? Probably. But doesn't seem like by that much.

Just got a notification that said "application will suspend in 15 mins as license cannot be verified". What does that mean? How can it not verify when I'm online?

Not very excited about the raid. There's a huge skill gap in my group. If these noobs can't be carried the raid will end in frustration.

I really enjoyed the raid, coming from WoW the mechanics and stuff were the kind of stuff I like. However I do have one major gripe. Doesn't really spoil anything, but a few mechanics required calling out simultaneously. Wires get crossed very easily and was a pain.

Specifically:
In the gauntlet, having two people doing the race and having to call out to teammates where to shoot was silly. It needed either only one runner, or for the red circles to be visible on the outside.

Are they bad at shooters or are they bad at understanding stuff? The enemies are really easy inside of the raid as long as you use abilities right and make sure to go for precision damage. The hard part is communicating and understanding what you're supposed to be doing.

So I've been going slow and just finished the campaign with my friend last night and my goodness did that ending fall flat. Honestly, I think the story in D2 was just as bad as the story in D1, but it just had better presentation (I'm now officially on the Cayde is the worst train). The Taken King was a step up, but everything in this game felt so disjointed. I know story is not this game's strong suit, but come on Bungie, we know you have it in you to do better.

I actually don't think it's faster but it would provide a huge LL jump at the end by waiting to cash in on the Powerful Engrams.

So I would say it's more efficient high LL gear acquisition but not necessarily faster for most people as it requires a LOT of open world grinding and works best if you have a full fireteam (sometimes the game doesn't populate a PE that you're near).

And if milestones do indeed reset weekly, for people that don't have a lot of time to spend grinding out events.. it would likely be more effective for them to just play whatever they want to play and just do the weekly Milestones, Nightfall, etc.. after reset.

How did your group figure out that
two people needed to shoot the markers at the same time?

I was watching the Raid stuff yesterday and didn't really know what was what, so I had a read into the lore stuff. They told a more visible story in D2 than D1, but the narrative is still vastly superior behind the scenes. There's some good stuff backing it, but it's Grimoire levels of obscured once again.

How did your group figure out that
two people needed to shoot at the same time?
Mostly because one person shooting at a time wasn't always activating the orbs, but did sometimes so we knew the mechanic existed. Was just trial and error after that.

Thank you! I understood the
"you're being tested"
part, but I didn't know about the invitation in the CE.

The whole premise of this raid is very interesting to me, so I'm trying to wrap my head around everything I can.

yeah, i was we would have even gotten a short cutscene of the raid appearing or a short talk with someone :P now it's just there and off you go.

So atleast the post credits scene is still unraveled and has something to do with the next DLC then.

I haven't done it yet, but others have said that the adventure "Invitation from the Emperor" on Nessus sets up the raid.
