Lightswitch on Skolas? Seriously? Fuck off

On the Twitch Skolas down we just saw, they really didn't die from close quarters enemies. I don't see lightswitch as a problem in this encounter. The potential "grounded" or "fickle" modidier could be much more dangerous.

A cheap death via Lightswitch on a final boss is stupid. Sure they didn't but I am sure it can happen.

A one hit kill on the player is a stupid mechanic for a boss fight.

Hooooly shit. I can now take the Cipher from Variks, but if I abandon it, the green marker is back and the only way to get it to go away is to reaccept the quest.

I have all the weapons. I don't want these fucking Ciphers anymore.

I did horn it without burn at the end (my sniper ammo ended... 20 shots) when it has 270k health... the horn did eat his health to death.

42 horns can kill him at 150k health without burn... each horn takes around 4-5k damage without burn.
His health is done 44.44%. Your damage output without burns is down 66.66%. With Small Arms or Specialist, Rocket Launcher damage output is down by 75%.

Boss has 44.44% less health. Gjallarhorn does 75% less damage. If we get Specialist, same deal. Rockets doing 75% less damage. If we don't get either Small Arms or Specialist, Gjallarhorn will still be doing 66.6% less damage.

I don't see it man, numbers don't add up.

I was thinking about doing the Cipher everytime I get it.

It only requires (1) having a treasure key which I can get at least one per week easily and (2) doing PoE which I plan on doing each week. So it's basically a no effort exotic shard doing what I would have done anyway without going out of my way.

Kind of crazy that the green marker doesn't go away though, I hate those things.

Specialist will be pretty good for doing a high impact sniper stun lock strategy. For that reason I wonder whether or not we will see Specialist often.

EDIT: Also the Skolas health numbers in the patch notes were clearly wrong. We have no idea if the percentage health decrease is correct even though the health numbers were wrong.

well, now we wont have to sit and wait 5-10 minutes for heavy ammo anymore at least. which was probably the worst part of the fight. at least for me.

I would prefer specialist as we can use 2 guns for it, vex and sniper. which is a plus in my book.

That's pretty bad. I'm in the "I can't stand green markers" club.

Health numbers probably just left off a zero.

Trying to stun lock skolas with that much health would be dangerous, especially if adds spawn based on health percentage. Rather than slowly dealing with adds at your own pace, you would force them to all spawn and deal with them all at once. Would be a nightmare.

Friendly reminder that we here are pretty much the 1% as far as equipment availability goes.
Sorry for that late answer, but I was caught up in Microsoft's conference / going back home / preparing the oven for a quick pizza before EA starts. ^^
Should have added that I also think Bungie should have made etheric lights easier to get for "casual" gamers. My view is that they should have allowed only one "easy" e.light per week per player, and a harder one to get on top of that for the hardcores.
The mechanic is really nice, and the choice opening up to you when you get your first one is awesome, but it's too easy to burn through this right now.
Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but it would probably have prevented some of the quick burns we saw from a few people here. :)

Also, how could have Microsoft thought it was a good idea to show such dark bits of the new Gears? Was it supposed to be a joke on the Xbox one's crashed blacks or what?

I don't like the glitch 'fix.'
Imagine Obsidian Mind being capped so the number of enemies you kill is irrelevant. The fix is a simple hard cap on the amount of super you earn from grenade kills. Swarm Grenades still get credit for killing each other. Throwing your grenade into a corner or actually getting kills makes no difference. I hope this is undone and a real fix comes along. 2/5

You're not alone.

good to know. when we respawn I want to get up and go and try again. not wait. I am a smoker so its usally my smoke break. but since an encounter screw up can be anywhere from 2-10 minutes. I would be smoking an offer lot. your encounter was speeding up cancer Bungie.

yeah, I know its my fault.

Even at 2 a week, you're going to have enough to max level 3 character in two weeks (assuming you have 3 characters).

At that point you're just going to start stock piling, which is pretty much what we're already doing.

Or are you suggesting 2 max per account?

It took me exactly 40 chest engrams to get Purifier Robes. I am good on exotic shards, hah.

Drizzay told me in a Twitch chat that he counted hit markers on one of his videos and found that alone he did 284k damage to Skolas with no accounting of what damage his two team-mates did to Skolas. I don't know anyone other than Drizzay who counts hit markers from old videos.

I believe him and so I am doubtful that the patch notes just left off a zero.

Specialist would be much welcome, it'll negate the lack of burn. As for total health, I based my numbers off the assumption that the cited reduction was the same proportion despite the numbers being off

My LDR did ~8k. Assume 3 people used 2 mags (20 rounds each) at this output, total damage dealt would be 960,000. 2 full mags (original + synth) of sniper ammo from every member was about what it took to bring him down, so the 270k figure seems weird as hell. If the proportional reduction is different from the one they gave us, ignore all my numbers about the viability of Gjallarhorn spam.

Sounds a lot more fun now!

Yeah I was suggesting 2 max per account. Don't know how they could have make it work though, probably kinda like they do with the guaranteed key from the queen.
This is not ideal, but I really think they went overboard with the generosity regarding etheric lights. Probably on reaction to the many complaints of the previous time gates, but some kind of middle ground would have been better I think...

It's a trade off.

Trading a terrible grenade for more super energy.

Personally, I'd rather have a useful grenade. I get a lot more kills with them than I do supers.

The Bungie IGN interview is tomorrow from everything I've read, people just confused the days.

I'm almost positive we'll see comet revealed at sony's conference.

Yeah if you take the number I heard from Drizzay and multiply by three and compare it to your number then you might roughly guesstimate that Skolas health pre-nerf was somewhere below 900k but possibly above 800k

Interesting.

Maybe all enemies in Destiny have stats entered in as if they are level 20, and the game has a formula that adjusts them appropriately for every level past it?

Maybe the numbers posted were accurate, but were as if Skolas was 15 levels lower.

Just spit-balling here, but it's possible.

I agree.

Reveal during Sony's conference.

Bungie interview will be the actual meat though. Like clarification on things that were shown the day before during Sony's thing.

Yup. Reveal during Sony's conference will likely be a video plus some tidbits of info. Hopefully more details on Tuesday.

I'm thinking it's related to being an always-burn enemy. 3x the 270 figure kind of makes sense. Burn damage is 3x. Pure speculation, but 810 seems a lot more reasonable considering the numbers I posted above.

It suggests 3x players unloading 2 mags of sniper ammo would have killed him. Usually mines spawned and interrupted this DPS before you got all your ammo rounds out, so I really think 810k is a solid contender for the actual HP.

New Machine Gun PvP Reforge thread courtesy of Reddit.

So many perks I thought were crap (and that I kept passing up on my BTRD) apparently are top tier. I wasted so many weapon parts.

Thanks for linking that. Looks like I got a god roll on my Ash factory, but my BTRD is pretty crappy. (I got both those on the last night of IB)

My Ash Factory has:
Hard Launch
Tripod
Javelin
Grenades and Horseshoes
