We just set it up last night and we're close to 300 members. Us Admins are trying our best to accept people and write guidelines for this group. But there are a lot of confusion and some people wanting us to shut down.

At this point, I just wanna hear what you guys think. This is a group, even though I'm an Admin. Jburton is right. we want to hear your input.

Is there a recruitment / info thread for this other group? I knew about the alpha clan only because I saw people on my friends list in it, but never saw a release clan mentioned on the forums, aside from people saying "How do I join? Doesn't seem to be an ingame mechanism" in the alpha impressions thread and never getting a reply.

If it is supposed to be the "official" one, a dedicated thread might have alleviated a ton of confusion. Or have I managed to just completely miss seeing it?

I missed it too. there should have been a thread, not mixed within the discussion of another thread.

Nope. If it worked for GTA why not here? If anything consolidation amongst people who aren't barred from playing together by console family (i.e. PSN / XBL) could work. But thousands of people over multiple online platforms is going to get confusing when matching up.

We're also way out from launch so there's plenty of time to figure it all out.

I think you guys should get props for raising the thread out in the open though.

You're only a dude who set up a group, not the rule maker, not the arbiter of behaviour, not a leader. Nobody is. Maybe you're pretty chilled out and it's just the language you're using. I bet if we were speaking face to face this wouldn't even be an issue.

Having said my bit, after all that, I say keep it open. Despite my grumbles, it's clearly popular now and it's a bother for people to leave this and join another because of an Internet argument. Just pppleeeaassseee slow down and ease off a bit and I might join up. If you'll have me

I feel this group should be merged with DestinyGAF as a group and as a whole. There is too much confusion going on and there is already a group called DestinyGAF. You can still choose to only play with PS4 players if the groups are merged. You will probably be able to see who is playing on what console.

Admin is a title. I mean, what would you rather I call them? I appointed them admin so they could help me with the acceptance process... When I'm speaking about the admin as a whole. I'm also including myself.

I cannot agree with someone starting their own group when one already exists and then not doing anything or doing pretty much nothing to clear up the confusion, in order to gain advantage by numbers to force it as the main clan. I feel like that is what's happening here, and by you constantly refusing to deal with the confusion, not wanting to start a discussion and going on with your group as if nothing is wrong is only amplifying that feeling.

This use of language is also part of the reason I originally said I thought it was about ownership to you; you are constantly reminding us of how you're the 'admin', proudly presenting 'your' group and are only turning towards the group that you created for feedback. Maybe this is just how you normally talk, but that is the vibe I get from your posts and use of language.

I don't see the issue here, personally. You may have a problem with his position of "Ownership" but technically that is what he is. We are "his" admins because he appointed us as such. There is a level of "separation" if you will which really is just permission based. The "Owner" (founder if you want) is the only one, for example, that can delete a group. Admins, are the only ones who can accept/deny applications. So there is a segregation of responsibilities which should be nothing new, to anyone here. We are all members of NeoGAF.. there are admins and there is an owner.

Ok, well I hope my post to him clears it up. To me, the blunt ownership thing makes me a bit suspicious, but it could just be an American thing. In the UK we have an ingrained suspicion of any kind of assertiveness, so we use a pretty odd way of understating everything and being overly polite.

And who from the other group have you been pressurising like this to deal with it?

There has been plenty of conversation in this thread (look through it) and I had brought the idea of shutting it down based on member feedback awhile ago.

The previous group was not advertised, was hidden within Bungie.net and no thread informing everyone not in the official withdrawal thread that such a group was in the making or had already been made.


Any ideas other than shut it down or posts in here other than recrimination would be helpful and necessary in creating a conversation around how to proceed, none have really been apparent.

Merging groups under the other the previous group has been the only idea floated so far, the logistics of such an idea have not been discussed.

thank god JBurton is here. I cant handle typing out complex paragraphs right now to deal with people asking us to shut down and stuff and asking the reasons for this group.. I feel like a brainless zombie.

JBurton honestly, is fighting in the trenches here. I'm just trying to approve members.

If people from the other threads and us can come up with a mutual agreements to merge things, then we will consider it. But asking us to shut down immediately is unfair.

We can make platform-specific clans within the main GAF group if people want that. There's no member cap on actual groups, and clans/groups are separate things.

The fact of the matter is there shouldn't be more than one "official" NeoGAF group on Bungie.net. Within that main group people can create dedicated clans for platform specific stuff, Crucible play, etc. But there should only be one main group.
