Destiny's "Raids" Thread: "Vault of Glass" is OPEN

See, that is the thing. It would be awesome if the strikes were tutorials using the boss fight at the end to teach a simpler form of the mechanics from one raid boss but they aren't. There are raid mechanics that aren't seen anywhere else in game which is a shame since a good portion of the player base will never get to experience was looks like the most fun part of the game.

Have you tried the super high level strikes? Do they make any difference?

Question. How many raids usually have a MMO?

I mean... should we expect a new one every week, month or more time?

Game crashed on both teams that finished it. First team got a black screen, second team the end mission timer just froze. There were no end-raid result screen rolls, so nobody got any real raid gear. Bungie better own up and send them their raid gear soon cause that is some dumb shit.

Well, I can't say I expected that they'd bug test it.

Oh man, I would be salty. Yeah, Bungie better send them some gear to make it right. Talk about throwing the controller.

That's the thing though-Even the Raid gets repetitive.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR MECHANICS, DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO.

Opening the door teaches you the 'capture the plate' mechanic. pretty simple. Defend the area, don't let the minotaur/Praetorian touch the plate or you lose it.

Next fight. Templar. Relic/cleansing mechanic. Use the relic to attack the boss, cleanse if you get marked.

Next fight, Gatekeepers. This combines the first two mechanics. Hold plate, go through teleport, kill gatekeeper, grab relic, cleanse part, kill Oracle before he wipes the part. The new mechanic? Teleporting to a different area.

Last fight? Combination of everything with random teleporting. Kill oracles inside. Get teleported out. You get a buff(?). But that's the gist of it. Even though it has mechanics, they become repetitive and tedious.

This game is so weird.

It's so against the bungie i thought i knew. I thought they would never pass off this repeated content with extra health bars as original content stuff.

I guess this game must have been harder to make than any of us thought.

That's not repetitive that's building mechanics they've learned onto each other for a different experience all together.

True enough, but it feels repetitive. I came from WoW raids, I've done all the raids-None of the fights have 'Oh you have to do this again'. It's like....it's like having to do a gauntlet of all the bosses in a row like REZ back in the day. Sure it extends the time, but it's more of the same. Sure, a fight like Ragnaros in Firelands made callbacks to the original Rag fight(Him going to his molten pool and summoning sons), but it was still completely a different fight.

In this one it's literally hold the plates again, get the shield again, use the shield to cleanse again, kill the oracles...except now you have to teleport and kill a gatekeeper.

Maybe WoW raiding has spoiled me to expect more. I dunno. I will give them props for the Gorgon Labyrinth, that wa svery fun.

I see this thread is slowly turning into a complain thread also.

Guess people can't just discuss the matter at hand and have to throw their opinion out there.

I hope to get my armor leveled up this week and really hope to get a better primary weapon and will then put together a team to tackle this insanity. Will then add comments about it.

I have some strategies ready putting together on my mind. Should be fun getting the right team together with complimenting skill sets

People want everything NOW. That's one of the biggest problems. I beat the game tonight and it's pretty obvious it's gonna be an episodic story based game. Personally I haven't played a game this much or for this long in a while. I adore this game.

Thst said, I'm surprised the raid got best the first day it opened.

I need a few more people for a run tonight at 7:30 PM pacific on XB1. PM if interested!

There's still hard mode to beat if I'm not mistaken.

Are you sure about the bolded part?

As long as it isn't drive by drivel like 'game-is-trash' 'bungie-doomed' and that stuff, people should be able to discuss the subject from all angles.

The fact that people were getting offended by folks wanting matchmaking speaks of some problem with the community over this game that I think even HaloGAF would blush at.

As long as people keep things clean and don't derail (including us that really enjoy the game), let them discuss and not try to force a one-way commentary. If someone starts legitimate shit, report them.

If building mechanics players have learned one on top of another is repetitive, then every game is repetitive. Granted, I haven't played it yet – I'm just taking issue with your original wording.

This is just me comparing it to a WoW raid. I should be clear on that-For example, fighting the first boss of siege of Orgrimmar is completely different with the last boss and no mechanics are shared between them. I'm definitely being unfair about it right now-Hell, I spent 5 hours on it last night getting up to Gatekeeper and enjoyed every minute(Except at 6 am...dead tired..).

So yeah, I'm being a bit unfair to the raid due to my experience with other raids. So that's my bad.

Thanks Reddit... Now the farming spot on Earth is just camped 24/7

You chose the wrong tab, didn't you? :P

I'm really loving the sound of the raid, even if it sounds as if there's a lot of digging into cover (just the first boss?). I'll echo that I do wish there was some matchmaking in place for it and communication enabled for those fire teams, but luckily there's the GAF clan, |OT|s, and other stuff to where I shouldn't have any issues.

No, I think he means that info was posted on Reddit.

I haven't been following too closely so I'm confused. Is it something for the Raid, because I just thought they were talking about some normal farming area that would be suited for the |OT| rather than the Raid thread.

I got the link to the farming video from this very thread... in the op even.

I'm sorry, but that's bull. The problem with the story is that it's awful, not that it's episodic.

Anyone have any details on the mechanics of each boss in VoG? Interested to see if they actually came up with interesting things or if they're more sponges.

The problem with the story is presentation, which is in turn because it's built to be episodic. Lots of characters/plot points pop in and drop out before there is any adequate fleshing out or any meaningful resolution. I'm sure had the game had more of that narrative actually on the disc, instead of saving it for later, the story would have been better.

Nope. There's no characters of any value. That's not a function of being episodic. That's a function of the story being cobbled together... poorly. Nothing about episodic stories prevents them from having compelling characters.

Besides. It's a 12 hour plot, and things don't pick up until after the half way point. That's just poor pacing.

so are more raids being planned? I just can't see myself playing a game for 10+ hours, even with breaks. 2-3 hours is my cut off. ah well, I'll just continue enjoying the rest of the game.

Nah Bungie stated it could take up to 14 hours or whatever. Those teams were going strong for about that long Atleast to beat it. The Raid does point toward how this game can very easily be jam packed with meaningful and fruitful content. Can't wait to get going on one myself but I know if I tried it now it would be a waste of time.

Once I'm able to take on the weekly heroic with teams without too much trouble I'm sure that will be a good marker for when this can be tackled.

The game does save progress, though. So you could hop on for a section at a time-- as long as you finish in a week, golden.

I'd argue none of the characters are allowed to develop enough to judge long-term value. The structure/pacing seems to have bits specifically cut out of the traditional single-player run so it can be used later, for instance, the whole Queen subplot, which we get as an event in a few weeks.

The story has potential, but it's structured poorly, the beats seem to be there, but it feels like bits are being held off for later, which probably should have just been woven into the initial single-player.

Me and my team didn't even get past the first part D: Only 4 of us are 26+ so the 2 lower levels were holding us back. Still, goddamn Praetorians ;_:

They need to introduce characters before they can be developed, though. There are a grand total of 5 characters, not counting your Guardian: the Speaker (who is just an exposition box), your Ghost (who is poorly voiced, is almost as much of an exposition box as the Speaker), the Mysterious Exo Stranger (who is so deliberately cryptic as to be meaningless), the Queen (who could be interesting, but doesn't get enough screen time, and is just as mysterious as the Exo Stranger), and finally the Queen's Brother, who is probably the best of the lot, but is still pretty much entirely 2-dimensional. There's a bunch of shopkeepers in the Tower, but they don't count, since they're just funny-shaped voiced menus.

They had 12 hours to tell the story. Not having any decent characters isn't really excusable at this point.

Need two for Vault of Glass on XB1 right now. Titans especially! GT = kittens dx.

Everyone trying to get loot to do the raid since this game has an atrocious loot system. Why bother doing strikes to get gear when sitting in a spot one shotting level 6 mobs gives us the same chance -_-

I got 10 legendaries from it today, only one of them wasn't a blue, and it wasn't even for my class. Bungie fucked up lol

Which spot is it if you don't mind me asking? Any better than the Dark Beyond mission on the moon?
