Detailed EverQuest II Impressions (56k no)

mana, I hope you can keep us informed on the class progression. It sounds pretty fun to be honest, and hopefully actually impacts gameplay significantly. plus it's the biggest draw to me of the game.

Yea a friend brought his laptop up earlier and showed me the game, reminded me of FFXI with better graphics :P

Give me WoW or give me death!

ill post impressions as soon as i can. IM a hardcore WoW fanboy and I disliked the first EQ and SoE :p Im looking forward to playing it though.

Ofcourse I have to get it to start working first. I cant even get my cd key entered :9

the main thing for me is if the game is the same tedious fucking awful grind treadmill the original was, or if it's actually fun to play beyond the token exploring a fantasy world.

Well on my server I think there are only three people over level 20 so far. One was a Summoner who became a Necromancer, and the other two were Crusaders. One went Shadowknight, and the other hit Paladin tonight. The Shadowknight may have been the first level 20 in the game.

Pallys and SKs are defensive tanks like in EQ1 with each one specific to a play type. SKs are more offensive with more direct damage, while Paladins are more defensive with buffs and heals.

I'm working on Crafting right now and the Artisan professions branch just like the Adventure ones. Working toward Outfitter and then Weaponsmith since someone in my guild is doing Armorer.

I've leveled off several quests already. So I've been running around grabbing any quest I can, and you can have like 50 at once.

My guild did a Hallmark Raid last night, we got it by leveling the guild up by perfoming city writs. No pics of that, but here are some of us tonight in Firemyst Gully. It's a zone full of undead.

Full.

Dicked around in the Thundering Steppes today, lots of undead and red red red mobs. Fun was had by all. Gotta keep leveling my crafter side so I can hit Jeweler.

Yeah really nice graphics heh, there's like uh.. no environements :lol

Man is EQ2 disapointing, I would of prefered EQ1 with better graphics, the new character developement system and starting from zero instead of this.

This one is just cool :)

Ive been playing it too. IM on the Lucan Dlere server. I only have a lvl 8 Mage right now but once you get off the newbie island the game gets ALOT better. Its like "WHOA". Im liking it. Is it better then WoW? Im not sure yet, it definatly has it beat in some areas but I need to play it more.

nubbe & shoplifter, what video cards do you have? Your pictures look particularly nice.

As I expected, the Iksar look awesome in plate armor. I will get into this sometime in the future, I know I will.

I'm running a 9800pro AIW. Settings are on high performance (one BELOW middle ground) with character textures on high (with one setting further, only recommended for cards with 512MB).

As I am currently playing both EQ II and WoW, here are my thoughts on a few things.

First, people that claim EQ II would suck because they rushed it out the door to beat WoW are totally wrong. In playing both games at this time, it is definately WoW that may be "rushed". EQ II is (seems) much further along than WoW does at the moment. Hense you can buy it at the store.

Secondly, that 500,000 testers someone spoke of earlier....I bet 99% of them are still d/ling files with bit torrent. Where did that idea come from, Blizzard? You best not do that if I buy your game.

Last, but not least, reviews for EQ II have all been very good so far, and I am enjoying the game. You don't need mega hours any more. I have had a few short play sessions and have made good progress with my wizard to be. See ya in game people....I play on the blackburrow server. So for me, EQ II > WoW at this time. And if things continue to be this fun in EQ II, I may not need WoW.

EQ 2 is a pretty crappy ass game. I guess if you like EQ from Luclin on then you may like it but any game run by the retards at SoE can burn in hell. Seriously though, EQ 2 is pretty good until around lvl 20 when things start to slow down and get boring and it all becomes a grind again. Some environments are nice but the character models are horrible. Music is really nice.

Also a few days ago there were something like 233,000 characters made so far. At most an account can have 4 characters on it. I would say there were probably around 125,000-175,000 accounts a few days ago. I don't imagine the game will ever equal EQ's playerbase of 450,000 accounts just because too many people have been burned out on SoE's untested content, lame cockblocks, and unfinished expansions.

I might have tried this game on an impulse but that series of screenshots killed any desire I had to give it a shot. Why in the hell is that guy wearing sunglasses? All the characters look like they are straight out of some shitty saturday morning CG cartoon.

I'm definently interested in this game, it's a shame that I ain't got the beef to make it pretty. Because damn when it's ugly it's ugly. (Cheap Shot Get)

I'll get three months of WoW, and if by then I'm feeling the pain of not having HL2, I'll drop the cash for an upgrade and probably pick this up with it.

honestly this game looks pretty good when youre playing it. yeah alot of the shots in still screens look somewhat terrible, but when its in motion it works well together. that said theres probably no way im playing this game past next tuesday ;)

Why in the hell is that guy wearing sunglasses?

He's a fucking gnome. They tinker, they make shit like that.

Say what you will, I'm having a blast with this.

It's likely that they did a check to see how many characters people actually played, and 4 was the median number. I know there's no way I'd be able to play more than 2 or 3 different characters especially to the endgame.

Hey it's worlds better than FFXI where you could only have one unless you paid an extra $1.00 a month per.

Hot damn im loving this game. Its fun as hell. I wouldnt say its better then WoW, but its really close, if not equal. Some areas this is better some areas WoW is better, it evens out. Ill probably play both of them at a time, since I have friends playing both of them. Unless WoW really becomes something amazing.

And the game does look really good once you get it running. Im not bothered by it at all, and I originally hated it in screanshots.

The only thing I dont like are the spell Icons. Honestly, some of them are really stupid. That fact that there is no PvP gets me kinda down when you consider the good vs evil aspect of it, it would have worked well. Also, looking at the map, for some reason the world doesnt seem that big or varied in design. Hopefully Im wrong. :p

The customization of your characters in this game is heads above WoW. Lots of things you are able to do once you get deeper into the game.

Im level 11 right now and it just keeps getting better. Hopefully the pace keeps up.

Plus Count Dooku is Lucan DLere. How can you fucking beat that? You just cant. The voice acting in this game is awesome as hell. Its seriously some of the best Ive ever heard in any fantasy game. SoE did a bang up job. Wow! Setting a new standard for MMO's and 9 disc games everwhere. :p

WoW vs Eq2 is going to be awesome. Its going to be really cool to see where each game is in 1 year...2 years etc etc. It could go either way. Honestly, I think the core game SoE has built is better then WoWs, but right now WoW is benefiting from more development time and types of polish so its shining more Id say. Both games rock. This is a great tiem to be an MMO fan.

I miss EQ. Damn you SOE for messing up the sequel :(

To each his own.....EQII is a blast...how you say it got messed up is beyond me. Played EQ since beta 2 back in the old days....and now EQ II is taking up my time. Great so far....and since a ton of my friends are playing it as well, I dont see myself leaving very soon.

Some more caps. Went in and kicked some more ass in Stormhold tonight.

Here's me crafting, and yes you can die while crafting. It's fucking hilarious to watch it happen to people:

So tonight I took a break from HL2 and logged in to grab some Guild Status quests around Qeynos. These help your guild Level Up (if you're a patron) or just add to your guild ranking if you do them as a non-patron in your guild.

One of the herald NPCs (they are not marked as anything special, you just need to find them) is located outside the Temple of Life in North Qeynos. Remembering that Rodcet Nife was an alien in EQ and his temple in old North Qeynos was a UFO, I was curious if his temple in EQ2 would be a UFO as well. And it is:

Just hit lvl 20 last night, I am now a Paladin. Here is a pic of my Holy Steed! I went with the Carbonite Armor, going to replace it all with the lvl 20 quest armor anyway so no reason to spend the extra money.

PS: sorry for the lower quality graphics, I turned down something to increase speed in crowded areas.

Do you get the Holy Steed at 20?

Yes, but you have to buy it from your trainer for about 14sp.

That's IT? Only 14sp? Damn. I have 1100sp just from ONE guild status quest and I'll be finishing up two more tonight after our guild BBQ today.

:lol
Yeah I thought the same thing, considering other horses cost upwards of 1plat I am extremely happy. Good thing too, I spent just over 3gold on my armor so I am kinda broke now.

signet, where does the Paladin quest start in Qeynos? I want to get started on it as soon as possible.

They offered a server split on Antonia Bayle last night. It's apparently the most populous server and is apparently getting close to EVE: Online in terms of players on the server at once (EVE: Online averages about 10k players on the same server at one time).

What the hell writ give you over a gold? It is one of the lv. 6 ones, or is it in loot from multiple runs of the other ones?

I'm trying to organize a bunch of us to do a shit ton of writs tonight since it's the only way we'll get lv 6. People don't like to do them because you get no xp eventually, so we're hoping that by getting the next set it'll be easier to get folks onboard.

edit: they offered a movelog on Mistmoore too. It's frigging ridiculous on here most of the time, so we're hoping people will leave since we're not.

I actually started making money around level 16 as my skills were about maxxed until I can start getting more Adept 1s, and my gear was as good as I could get it. I got to almost a gold before I started crafting, so 3g isn't impossible to have at 20. Someone in my guild has 3g and she's lower level than me and just crafts and sells.

Oh, and for the skills. A Pristine player-crafted Apprentice III scroll is actually better than a mob-dropped Adept 1. However, a Pristine player-crafted Adept 1 will blow away a mob-dropped version. So when getting skills always try to find Pristine versions for the best possible scroll.

How ya doing in DAoC Mana? Im just getting into battlegrounds with my druid. Sylvans rock.

I log into DAOC and then my guild starts yelling at me over TeamSpeak to log into EQII because they need another tank or someone will call me to login :lol

Sorry took me so long to see this but I have been busy (EQ2/DS). At 19 you will get an auto quest that tells you to go see a guy near the NQ Castle gates. That's starts the Path of the Paladin quest. You then have to kill 25 gnolls that pose a challenge (Green Sabertooth Battles around the bells will do). Then you have to rescue some people in a instatent solo zone. Just kill the green gnolls and avoid the orange/yellow ones. After you free the captives go back to were you start and talk to the dwarf there. That's all you have to do.

Working on my Paladin Quest armor right now, on quest 3 at the moment. Hopefully I will have all my armor quest done by lvl 25 (21 now).

Cool. Doesn't sound too bad.

My guild hit level 5, which means we can now display our guild tag to everyone and we have a personal guild raid. We did that raid last night, and then some of us went out to Thundering Steppes for a while. That zone has the best music in the game and parts of it really do remind me of West and North Karana. I haven't explored enough to see if there are South Karana elements yet or even ruins of the wizard spires.
