360 controller is pretty comfy on PC. I use it more often than not for 360 ports. Something about leaning back in my chair with my legs on desk playing w/ improved graphics is very satisfying.

Exactly! I'll be playing this one with class.

A.k.a: a cup of tea, a pc, a controller, and my couch.

I use it whenever a game lets me and it's well implemented. Witcher 2 was all controller.

The fact that this is an fps made the decision especially hard, especially with the benefit of typing into terminals, but eh...

From the way he is sounding about it, I would be willing to guess 4/5 but it could go either way.
That's one thing about metacritic...a 3/5 makes a 60 which seems pretty different from a 70 or 80. *shrug* REVIEW WARS

Holy shit, Ryan should really stop talking about Deus Ex.
Their stream isn't loading for me, what did they say? I'm dreading this, but I'm guessing that there's talk about "jankiness," and baseless fabricated assumptions that nobody really liked the gameplay in the first one, or that it "doesn't matter" that you have choices because running down hallways with an assault rifle is "just as effective," or something else along those lines.

No, the original. "Deus Ex is like System Shock 2. A game a lot of people talk about but not a lot of people have actually played." "I didn't like Deus Ex when it came out because it was first-person and at that time FPS meant just shooting stuff so that's what I did (lololololool)"

They said that the AI is kinda busted (paraphrasing here) and that there are a lot of ladders. That is about it, you guys are probably better off looking at the site tomorrow than try and glean anything from the drive streams they do.

Edit: and just to clarify Jeff is reviewing the game and not Ryan (thank god because Ryan does seem pretty out of touch with any PC stuff from the past)

In the interest of not passing out while driving or at work tomorrow I'm going to take a nice little three hour nap. Knowing my luck I'll sleep a normal amount of sleep or the small sleep I get will just screw with my body.

Who knows maybe I'll just do the tutorial and play around with various settings and get a full night of sleep.

So this may be a stupid question. Forgiveness in advance as I was too young to get what I was doing when the original was released.

How come Eidos allowed "custom" rendering engines for the 3D? Did other engines such as the unreal or quake engine allow the same thing?

Well alright, that's just Ryan Davis.

If you've ever heard him or know his past, he grew up with almost entirely arcade games. The idea of saving a game weirded him out when he finally transitioned to consoles, and PC games in general were baffling.

That's a kind of stupid I will never be able to relate to, but okay.

You shouldn't have to be in touch with a decade old game to be able to play/enjoy/review it.

If you need to have played the original to enjoy this game that is a massive failure by the developers.

If you all hate Jeff/Ryan so much don't listen to them or read their reviews and there will be less to cry about and more time to enjoy games.

I'm not talking specifically about the original DE, and even then it helps to have a background with any of that era of PC gaming because DE:HR is trying hard to recapture that sort of complexity while modernizing things.

I am not saying Ryan would dislike the game, or isn't competent enough to review it but I think Jeff is the better man for the job.

Dude, whining about Giant Bomb is a tradition for some around here. Just sit back and enjoy.

I'm going to laugh so hard when it gets 5 stars and you guys get trolled lol.

He's being harsh on it because of the sheer amount of hype. The review will be on its merits. Relax everyone.

And with that, off to bed for work. This game is mine to play after getting back from the gym tomorrow.

3 more hours, trying to decide if I should continue Game of Thrones while I wait, start The Shield Season 1, or just stay on GAF and browse around for more reviews of a game I know I'm going to play anyway.

Oh, so we're waiting on 12AM PST? I thought it would be an hour later.

Fuck it, I'm staying up. I think a few sessions of Killing Floor should wake me up.

The Shield a thousand times over.

Im 3 hours into DE:HR and loving it so far. Best part is music. 360 version installed, runs and looks good.

A little less than half-way through the game and I've been a little afraid to play it, like consciously avoiding playing to try and prolong the awesome. :(

Never asked for this, etc.

Alright GAF, I need help deciding which version to get.

My PC is a years old, but it does meet the minimum specs. My current spec:

E5300 @ 2.6 GHZ
6 GB of RAM
9800 GT w/ 1GB of RAM.

Think it could handle it with decent settings at 720? Or should I skip out on the Steam version and go for a 360/PS3 copy?

The art is good, amazing even, but the technology is dated. DX11 tech updates allow for some higher quality shader rendering and post processing effects, as well as the likes of tessellation to improve character models. However, the engine itself is far from cutting edge, and features some outdated rendering techniques like an abundance of baked lighting and shadows, and an overall lack of dynamics.

I quite like the look because the art is phenominal, and the DX11 features as well as the overall advantage of PC (AA, AF, resolution, etc) will help make it look its best, but it wont win any awards for the rendering technology.

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
I took a nap when I got home, so I'm all ready for the midnight launch. The homeless are about to get wrecked.

This thread is going in cycles. dated in terms of the polycount on the character models. The DX11 tessellation looks quite nice and it's handled a bit better than most games. Still even with slightly more naturalistic models there are some rough edges, graphically. But let's all remember Deus Ex never has been and maybe never will be about the graphics.

Oh wow, it's cool, the art direction is still fantastic.I hope people will mod it up in the future.

Why is the entire video game industry based around bizarro time? East coast gets no love. :(

On the west coast, have it worse.

You'd think Seattle, which is full of nerds, tech geeks, and the fucking setting of classic cyberpunk series SHADOWRUN would have just one midnight launch somewhere, or even a nearby 24-hour store like Walmart or Target, but nooooooo...

Have to pick it up tomorrow.
