Deus Ex: Mankind Divided I Review Thread I I asked for this

We already know there will be a new trilogy to come with the Deus Ex Universe stuff.

well this is the first in that trilogy

So according to reviews if I liked HR I will enjoy this? do they consider the game to be improved over HR?

If you liked the gameplay elements of HR, this game is twice as good and twice as refined as HR.

If you came for the story, its a step back.

Tin Foil Hat On:
This might be the reasoning for the so-called abrupt ending in MD. Apparently they are tracking our decisions in the game to plan for a possible sequel. This could explain why the story just stopped abruptly? Also could allude to Jim Sterling's previous comments about how this game was chopped up into 3 games and MD is now "part 1" of the trilogy?

"Eidos Montreal reveals it has learned from its mistake with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and will track all your decisions in its sequel, Mankind Divided."

Q: "Human Revolution had a couple of endings. Did you ever consider tracking player's choices in that game so the ending could transfer to Mankind Divided?"

A: "For the previous game, Human Revolution, we didn't have any technology to track your actions. When we started Mankind Divided, we felt we needed to take a bit of truth from all the four endings so players could feel that, 'okay, this kind of makes sense for me.' Plus we kept things a bit more mysterious to start Mankind Divided, saying that such a big event would probably suffer from a lot of misinformation from civilians and the news.
As for this new game, we don't know whether there will be another Deus Ex game or not. However, we are tracking your choices and the consequences in Mankind Divided. When you're done, we seal your save game file with everything that you've done and that's gonna give us the option in the future. If we’re lucky enough to work on a sequel, we can use that as a stepping stone for you to come in and continue where you left off. So we have changed our approach to tracking your progress."

We already know there will be a new trilogy to come with the Deus Ex Universe stuff. MD was always supposed to be part 1, so if Jim Sterling's statement is actually true, that would mean part 1 of the DE trilogy is getting split up into 3 parts.

That's pretty disappointing, story is extremely important in a DE game :/

how so? Seems like its more the same from reviews and footage with some new skills? Still has the dumb 'cutscenes' for melee attacks that I wished they'd change.

I mean, even if it was because of a sequel, it doesn't make an abrupt ending good. Sequel bait, DLC bait, or just a lame ending, neither are appealing options.

Has there been any discussion in reviews on the reactivity of the game? I'm talking about stuff like (DE:HR spoilers)
being able to save Malick
? It's not necessarily something I would expect individual reviewers to pick up on since this type of stuff usually only comes clear when people start to compare notes but it's a hallmark of the series.

Whatever they do I just hope we won't have to wait another 5 years for the next game. Damn.

I was expecting this to be really special and a GotY contender so these reviews are super disappointing to me. The talk about the story and the ending in particular. Damn.

From the AMA it seems they were developing the engine from scratch alongside the game, so I assume that wont be as much of a factor going forward when it comes to using resources.

Other than a couple of blurbs and some of the feedback here I'm not really invested in the reviews. Hearing that it's Human Revolution 2.0 is all I need to know, to be honest.

Play time and narrative are far too subjective for me to hold too much stock in pre-release opinions. And it's not a dismissal, just me knowing that my own taste isn't indicative of someone else. The rate at which I play and how I play skewers play time (I have nearly 300 hours in The Witcher 3), and my attitude towards narrative will depend on too many factors for me to know without playing for myself.

Keen as mustard.

if you liked human revolution, you'll like this. Because its that.

If you didn't like it, you won't like this. Cuz its that.

Smaller stakes sounds like a positive step to me. HR left me cold with its silly global conspiracy and zombie nonsense

You should probably still expect global conspiracy stuff. It's a staple of the series.

I liked the globetrotting but not the silliness behind it. Also, not enough Faridah.

Unrelated: some of the footage I've seen so far makes it looks like there are augs which give you "force powers". Have I misread? Say it ain't so GAF!

That's cool, but yeah, just forewarning that you're dealing with Deus Ex here and the whole global conspiracy, Illumanti, secret societies shtick is literally the franchise. It's inevitable.

Just curious, what specifically did you find silly about the conspiracy stuff?

I was onboard until the zombies showed up. It was a very sudden and extreme turn for the plot and for the gameplay. There was no foreshadowing and the entire conclusion seemed rushed.

I don't dislike it at all, I think it's fun, but also kind of silly. Which I don't see a problem with. I mean, the entire concept of the first game was "every conspiracy theory is true" so there's a level of goofiness baked into the series.

I didn't mean to imply silliness was always bad thing, but the implication there was he thought it was a bad kind of silliness, hence my inquiry.

Would someone need to have played HR to enjoy this/get the full context of the story?

I'm shocked they didn't remaster HR for current gen.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
We won't get our codes until Monday, because "reasons". Last time I preorder from CDKeys. How the fuck can GMG get the codes so early but CDKeys can't??

GMG's keys are supplied by Squeenix itself (apparently the 40% discount was a mistake rather than a genuine promotion) whereas CD Keys resells keys taken from physical stock.

Any reviews talk about the artistic aspect of the game and why it's so different from HR? I loved the black and gold of HR and was disappointed to see it's so bright and "normal" looking in this game. Seems like the cyberpunk stuff is completely gone, or is that just the levels we've been shown?

They took out the piss filter in the upgraded edition of Deus Ex HR

Because the gold was a representation of the renaissance era. The color scheme is supposed to correlate with whatever theme is prevalent in an area. The anti aug movement is more oppressive with grays, and it will eventually move into whatever era the originally deus ex was in and become blue. or something like that

Cool, thanks. I'm fine with Monday. When you get it that cheap, it's hard to be mad when you can only preload 1 day ahead of time. I generally only order from GMG, but I couldn't pass up $35 as the cheapest option, first time I've ordered from CDKeys myself.
