Devil May Cry 4 |OT| of daring to defy your savior

I'm loving the bloody palace in this game, moreso than DMC3. Personally, I haven't had to worry about running out of time at all. When I first finished the bloody palace I had about 37 minutes left. 2nd in Canada! WOOT!

Overall, while it was not without its flaws, I think that the game is simply fantastic. The combat is well-polished, Nero is a great character that new players can ease into without much trouble and Dante with his On-The-Fly style switching makes for a metric fuckton of cool combos that veterans will love. The cut scenes are over the top and enjoyable...as they should be!

While its great to have nice looking graphics I must say that I'm pretty surprised by people comparing the versions. This is Devil May Cry, not Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid. The main focus should be what the series in known for: the combat system (along with the cheesy cut scenes that we all love ;p). Not "ZOMG JAGGIES!".

That's just my two cents though.

I just started a new game on Son of Sparda but i'm not seeing any new items or abilities for sale...

Its a grinding achievement/accomplishment for maxing out your inventory.

I agree the timer isn't much of an issue. I had around 40 minutes left when I cleared BP.

Speaking of BP, I've been playing as Dante so much that going back to Nero is really tough. I've tried twice now and gotten owned by Berial both times. I swear he does his explosion attack everytime I try to combo him. With Dante it's easy to use Trickster to escape but I always end up getting dominated with Nero.

Jump back, airhike, land and another short jump puts you just out of range of his explosion. Takes a bit of practice but as long as you're not stuck in an animation or whatever you can get away.

Time for me to get owned by DMD Dante2 :(

And boy what an owning. Pussied out and used 2 gold orbs. Only hit him with two ghost swords before I had to use the first :lol

you clearly haven't watched this video:

While its not the best display of beating Berial on DMD (the uploader has a vid on the entire mission on DMD divided into two parts), it shows how you can avoid the AOE move he does.

But just for the heck of it, here's the better fight against Berial video:

So what is the general consensus on this game? Must have? I'm pretty keen on giving it a go, I have to say the video reel they have running at my local jb hi-fi looks awful pretty too.

Must have. Glad I bought it. It's going to be one of those game that I will play out once a month no doubt.

Definitely

This is cute too. If you don't want to mess with the dropoff in mission 12 where you have to activate an elevator, you can:
A) Fly across with Pandora
B) Get a running start and DT before Dante autoleaps the edge. He'll get about halfway across then you can airhike then skystar twice to get across.

Back -> Forward attack move. Timing seems to be about when Nero flinches. I wonder if it has to be Ex. Hmm.

Spent a majority of the day finishing off Son of Sparda Mode, getting a tiny taste of Dante Must Die mode, and collecting all remaining Blue Orbs and completing any Secret Missions that I've missed (which was pretty much 80% of them).

First off, some of the Secret Missions have borderline asinine, frustratingly hair-pulling goals. The Royal Block mission could have been a lot less frustrating and a lot more Royal Guard learning experience if they had either made the count 3 blocks instead of 5, or if the counter didn't decrease if you didn't perform the perfectly timed block. And the guy who thought that making a mission where you fight plant-infected Blades while the ground venus fly traps try to get you, and you must finish it without getting it needs to be beaten one day.

And some of the Blue Orb placements makes me wonder why Capcom still attempts to give DMC awkwardly-placed-and-handled platforming sequences. Getting some orbs revolves around long jumping to some unknown platform offscreen (damn camera) or jumping somewhere that you'll constantly undershoot or overshoot. If a DMC5 needs to be made, please, please try to fix the platforming and jumping mechanics. It didn't work in any DMC game, and I don't see why they would try to put it on steroids in DMC4.

SoS was moderately challenging in the end. Final boss hasn't changed his pattern one bit, and Capcom seems intent to make players get more and more pissed off at the Dice game with each increasing difficulty. Good God, playing that thing on DMD is going to be irritating as hell.

Fought Dante 1 on DMD mode. Surprisingly, not using Streak all the time pretty much cut down his difficulty considerably, as his frequent Stingers would leave him open. Anyway, DMD might be the final stretch for me, as it seems like Hell and Hell isn't necessarily the mother-of-all-difficulties but rather "kinda-half-step-between-SoS-and-DMD" due to its one-hit kill criteria.

You're confusing Heaven Or Hell with Hell and Hell. =P

I would like to know this as well. I'm about to upgrade again after just finishing level 8 and I'm not sure where I should be spending my points.

Same here, its too hard to do. I have hit them with DT Gilgamesh back plus circle, the strongest move of Dante and its no where close to enough.

Pandora, and tons of needles. 3 sets of forward attack, then am them at him, either regular Swordmaster style button, or forward and style with SM, depending. Pandora if you feel lucky.

And pray.

Charge shot level 3, air hike, streak, at least one snatch upgrade, max-act, level 2 & 3 rev moves, and table topper!

OMG!!! Almost got past Berial on BP mode. Did pretty well against Blitz and now I have his attack patterns memorized. But on Berial, damn two more hits and I would have beat him. I can't predict when he does the lava coming out of the ground move and I can't dodge his explosion move.

Oh and boy does the difficulty ramp up on SOS on Mission 5. :lol

Just take off running when he does the lava from the ground. It'll happen 4 times before its over. Should be enough time to land and run once he does whatever he does to indicate its coming.

Ex has some invincible frames I think so probably. I could be wrong though.

Thanks D. By the way, great job on all of your awesome achievements. I'll try and catch up soon, keep at it. :)

Thanks, I think I am finally feeling like its time to slow down, I think after I beat DMD I am going to give the game a break. BTW how long does it say I have played for... I am almost afraid to know. :lol

Ooops, I meant the character gallery. Though I'll take those as well. Mainly the Yamato images, I believe there are two of them.

Edit: Not sure, just check your Save Data File. It shows the total play time.

I thought you wanted the game ending images, I have not seen anyone with the character images in this thread, maybe I missed something

Oh didn't know about the file thing, I will check it out.

Got the game on the 360 today, and so far, this game fucking rocks. Playing on Devil Hunter mode, and both Berial and Bael were actually easy. Both taking me about two tries to beat. Also, I <3 <3 <3 Nero.

WHO GOT DEMON HUNTER VAGINA ALL OVER MY TELEVISION?11111

I though Berial was easy, I killed him on my first go. However, I foudn Bael really difficult. It took me three goes to kill him and on the third go I had to use a vital star M and a Holy Water.

Thank god Capcom have changed the checkpoint system. Its so much more conveniant having a checkpoint right outisde the boss room.

Bael...the frog dude (somewhat) with the two lesbians night lights, ja? Is it me or does the music during his fight sport a DDR track mix within it. Can't remember the name. It was the JA version of the 6th mix I believe.

Its a shame that both Nero and Dante dont have the devil bringer. I use the devil bringer more than anything else, so its going to feel really weird when I start playing with dante.

the difficulty curve for SoS is so fucking retarded, just like DH. I'm on like, M16 or something right now, and I have to say, the normal enemies I can handle, but its retarded boss patterns that piss me off the most.

But yeah, LV3 charge shot and shotgun = saves lives, lol.

If it weren't for Berial being able to shoot fire from the ground, I would've had him on my first go. Bael's demon slut things things fucked me up on the first try when I tried to use the Red Queen on them, and just went with using Buster on their asses.

Currently, Frosts and Knights are incredibly easy due to the Devil Bringer. I was expecting some hard shit with them. :-(

lol, "sluts."

Is there a strategy against those fucking fire dogs with Dante? Without Devil Bringer, Stinger-ing my way around isn't the best way to fight these fucking bastards, especially with how spread out they can get.

His name is KASOU.

:lol I was coming in to say I beat it tonight on DH mode. Although I did give Berial an ass whipping, this guy is insane. I actually like Dante's missions.
Leveling up that body armor that causes alot of damage (the one you get for killing that forest snake woman) is what helped me. I was killing off enemies with the quickness
Fantastic production on the cut scenes. The VA is cheesy as hell, but man the choreography, the lighting effects, the sound effects (great use of surround sound) really made the movies shine. I enjoyed it alot, despite the hair pulling frustration I suffered fighting Dante.

How do you stop
Agnus from recharging his health in the second encounter you have with him? The move where he floats in the middle of the room and drains Nero's health.

I just use Trickster's Trick Up to teleport to each dog.

Figured that. I was just throwing it out there so people in this thread didn't think they had to recreate it to get up there is all.

Beat the hell out of him before he gets it off. A level 3 charged shot from Blue Rose might work as well.
