Devil May Cry 4 XBL demo surpasses 1 million downloads.

$2.8M DLC profit and it's the third highest earning X360 title in the world (purely DLC wise)? Isn't that slightly alarming for dlc in general? Not exactly a goldmine, especially not when you consider it's the third best earning one worldwide. Am I getting this wrong?

That's 560,000 downloads costing 400 points (realistically even more downloads at a cheaper price) on a game that sold 76,000 copies. That is INCREDIBLE.

If Guitar Hero 2 and Halo 3 are the other big DLC profits, the Idolmaster numbers are reasonable.

I think the sales of DMC4 will be relatively close on both systems. The X360 version should sell significantly more since the userbase is much higher, but there is less competition on the PS3, so we will see.

Okay, so we are talking purely ratio? Because 560K downloads on 76K games is indeed mindblowing.

It's still money obviously and probably a quarter of what it cost to make the original game.

I doubt the game cost that much to make or port. Besides, didn't Namco make a killing on that game in the Arcades before it even went to the 360. Look at it that way, and it would seem that DLC on Idol Master is just pure gravy to them.

I agree, but I was responding to the point that 10% of a user base getting a FREE DEMO was possibly not something very positive.
Count me as one of the 90% who didn't download it. By the time I could, I didn't even remember it was there (I'm a silver pleeb).

There's plenty of valid reasons why not everyone downloads it (not the least of which being the time it takes to download it) and I don't think this is a bad number at all.

The thing is, it could easily be 1-2million downloads on 76K games, depending on how many points the different clothes etc cost. I used 400 points as a reference, but Idolmaster DLC is more like 100 points in price.

Put that to rest because you will hear nothing about MGS4 for 360 at all.
Fixed.

Not when there are almost a hundred things to download and costing between 250 to 1200 MS points (pre-price drop).

50% of people aren't online

50% of those who are don't have gold

many people have bandwidth constraints, or don't download demos at all (I actually know a guy who refuses to download demos even though he has Gold and buys a lot of games).

Just to make sure we're on the same page:

That game is in third only from a ratio point of view?

I mean, there must be more than just two games that have gone past $2.8m total for their dlc (Guitar Hero, Halo 3..etc) right?

C- Warrior said:
No. It was at around 450,000 to 500,000 -- I'm not sure what expansion packs [hurricane, black, sigma, etc. etc.] added.

Ninja Gaiden sold over a million copies and Black sold about another 300 to 500k.

At the time of the announcement, I think they said it was third in absolute terms.

I think only Guitar Hero 2 and Halo 3 could've beaten that. I don't think that many people actually buy DLC.

I guess it's not out of question thinking the the majority of income for MS from Live is the actual subscription fee itself then? Obviously Silver members can buy dlc too but last I heard about 30% of Live consist of Silver members.

If they have 4-5million people paying $50/yr, yes, that's a heck of a lot of money, and it's no wonder they don't want to give it up. DLC is probably still chump change compared to Gold. I'm a hardcore gamer, but I haven't paid for a single XBLA or DLC yet, although I did pay for 1 year of Gold (which just expired, I'm not renewing any time soon).

DLC for games just isn't a mainstream concept yet, except in Asia (in free MMOs mainly), while people everywhere are used to paying subscription fees for services.

I'm curious, people keep talking about how all these web sites like XBox.com are plastered with DMC4, is a similar thing happening on Sony web sites or whatever? I'm curious if Capcom is pushing advertising dollars harder for the 360 than the PS3.

Microsoft might've offered free xbox.com ads. I'm pretty sure they just advertise whatever the next big 360 releases is on their site, regardless of exclusivity. The ads recently changed to Lost Odyssey.

Yup. Lost Odyssey is up now it seems.

Microsoft is trying to take as much as possible from Sony. Every big multiplatform title, MS has pushed. Doesn't seem to be paying off though since Sony is catching up, sometimes I wonder if all the money and advertisements were worth it. *Shrug*

Hell I remember when Tenchu Z was up there. Actually that game sold sort of decently didn't it? Hmm....

Yeah, and it wasn't even a good game. It probably sold because it had a ninja. It gives me hope that Ninja Gaiden 2 will actually sell, especially with a real marketing push.

Well, this is Capcom's money, not MS's money, so what does MS have anything to do with it? I used xbox.com as an example web site... the impression I'm getting is Capcom is pushing the 360 version harder, and I'm wondering if my perception is unfounded.

It's a harder sell on 360, so I wouldn't be surprised.

The Demo saved me from buying the actual game. Didnt like it at all

It's a terrible demo. A good demo would've been Bloody Palace up to Stage 20, randomizing the three non-story boss encounters. A great demo would've given you a small allotment of Proud Souls to purchase a select few skills and see first-hand the difference they make in approaching battles.

Not that it matters now, though.

The demo wasn't terrible at all. It was basically mission 2, and I LOVE MISSION 2!

I have a friend just like that, and I hate on him every day because of it! The coolest demo will come out and he wont touch it, even though part of the service he is paying for is about the demos. want an ass, Thank you for taking the time to read my rant.

I don't download demos. I just play every game (full version) that I'm interested in. I have too much on my plate as it is to spend time with partial games.

So how were the sales of ace combat 6? Personally, I think the capcom blog is PR from microsoft, whenever a big game gets more than or 1 million downloads for the demo they send out the PR people.

I think Lost Planet and Dead Risisng did well because there was nothing else on the market and those where next gen japanese titles.

And when I look on PSN store the top download is DMC4, so I wonder if Sony even releases number of downloads for their store.

Not too surprised about the million downloads - although no one would associate it with the Xbox brand, it's been shown heavily in the ads, as well as in the Dashboard, so people there probably wanted to see what it was about...

Or maybe, just maybe, the games were really, really good?

Nah, couldn't be...

Why would the million downloads only be PR? I'm sure it would be as simple as Capcom asking for the stats, being a digital distribution that gets tracked regardless...

Lost Planet was good? I admit i was sucked into the lost planet hype and bought the game but for me it was not that good of a game. The story was just awful, the main character generic and boring, Luka should have been the main character and the combat epsecially in mechs were not that good. I'm not going even talk about the boss battles.

As for dead rising, i heard it was better than lost planet, but because of the demo i didn't really like it that much.

That's great that something for free was downloaded 1 million times, for such a terrible demo outside the Berial boss fight, but this bears no indication in terms of sales.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma sold like shit though, despite the high scores, demo and a userbase unlikely to have already played it on Xbox. Made me worry about the future of the franchise, hopefully NG2 will do much better.

For you - opinions.

Main character generic? I don't think that means what you think it does - I think I'll just leave it at this, because I could start on some games that you like that I could say are horrible - and that would be hypocritical...

"lol" what?

And congrats for basically repeating what I said with your second sentence...

When I was picking up No More Heroes at Gamefly I saw a guy return Mass Effect towards his 360 DMC4 purchase. The guy working was like "WTF? Don't trade this in just for DMC it's a classic!".

True story :lol

Gamefly has a walk in store?

Anyway, the gamestop right next to UCLA - I go there because it's the closest shop from campus, the clerk is a big DMC fan. Really cool, we talked for about 15 minutes while the manager was on his way back on a personal pick-up for the dmc4 copies.

I noticed in their reserve drawer behind the desk there were a ton of pre-order units for DMC4. I don't remember which version had more reserves, there seemed to be an equal amount.

WTF? I think the DMC4 demo is pretty awesome. The Berial battle certainly isn't a cakewalk to me...I guess I'm just weaksauce.

Compared to the awesomeness of the actual game...the dmc4 demo was shit. It was.

Whoops not Gamefly. Gamecrazy. Too many "Game*" stores these days. Anyway even after the clerk tried to talk him out of it the guy said "I beat it. I want to trade it in." so he went home with his DMC4 that day. I expect the game to sell over a million between both consoles. I'll most likely just gamefly it until the price drops.

I haven't played the game yet, but I'm loving the demo. If someone doesn't like the demo, fat chance they'll like the final game.
