Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers |OT| New World Order, Old World Chaos

MikeDip

God bless all my old friends/And god bless me too, why pretend?
But is it a one-time thing? Should I wait until I have better demons to fuse him with?

No, you can keep fusing with him to increase his skills and stats, and even reset him if you fuse him on a full moon if you don't like how he turned out.

Cool. In any case, I'll probably wait to fuse because none of my demons yield anything very interesting yet.

Is grinding viable in this game?

I thought that because this game was a classic dungeon crawler in first person, it would bore... Boy, I was wrong!!! It´s so fast and fun to play it but I would have love that the demons gained experience :(

The only other (sort of) mainline SMT game I played was Strange Journey. In that game the demons would gain experience, but the amount of experience they needed to level up didn't match up with the demons that started out at a higher level to begin with. In other words, if I had a demon that started with level 10, then by level 15 or 20 or whatever, it would take a lot more experience to level up from level 20 to 21 than it would it I had a demon whose starting level was 20.

Also, the skills that the lower level demons possess get outclassed later on in comparison to higher level demons and they wouldn't really change on level ups either so in Strange Journey you had to basically replace your weaker and more obsolete demons with newer/better ones but leveling up allowed your favorite demons to remain somewhat useful for a little while.

(Sometimes you would get lucky on a skill changing on a level up if I recall correctly but it didn't happen often.)

b) I usually keep a game running and I shouldn't have to completely quit out of it just to earn "coins" from walking.

You don't have to quit a game in order to earn coins or do street passes. Unless it's a DS game.

I'm not that far into the game, but I really like it so far. As has been mentioned before in the thread, the voice acting really is A+. It's pretty amazing how much charm the actors convey, even though all they have to work with are still portraits. Nemissa is way funnier than I thought she'd be. Love the demonic valley girl thing she has going on.

The loyalty system is kind of growing on me. At first it's a little annoying (What do you mean you won't attack???) but it ends up giving the demons a lot of character and personality. I spent most of my slog through the 2nd dungeon trying to get a Mokoi to join me. I gave him life stones, magnetite, the works, and he wouldn't join. Until I randomly complimented him on his milk drinking skills. It went from frustrating to endearing.
I fused the little bastard like 5 minutes later.

The one question I have so far, is there a way to let the demons in the back-row attack normally? It seems none of them reach the front row unless they use magic/skills. Is there a way to tell if they are able to attack from the back row?

Wonder if I put the game card in my wife's 3DS and start a slot if I'll be able to get stuff for the game when I put it back in my 3DS...?

Well, to answer my own question, it does work. It was a chore to make sure it would work, as you have to get through the entire first vision quest and activate the StreetPass option with the little monster dude, but I just got my first StreetPass for the game from my wife's 3DS. D-Souls incoming...

Is this game like EO where I should really be walking over every tile, or is there nothing really worth finding that isn't immediately visible?

So I've been using a Sly Acheri forever, and I've been using Agi, which it seems happy to use, but its loyalty has not increased at all.
What do I do?!

Most the 'treasures' are visible from wherever you are

PS I really want a new Dark Spire after playing this. And a new Strange Journey. Get on it, Atlus and Success.

Had my first game freeze in the planetarium. :(

It froze on me at the boss there. At least I had saved after the quiz :S

Reloaded and it didn't freeze anymore.

I found another weird line breaking in the text :

It seems to happen in demon conversations.

You know, I just picked this up today and I was thinking "Cool, this is pretty much '90s MegaTen. But it doesn't seem more strange than any other of the games."

And then
a Coyote appeared and told me to relive this guy's memories.

Had a freeze in the airport. Thankfully I saved moments before.
Getting Judah Singh's demons after taking the memory card from his comp was such a nice touch

I haven't had any freezes yet, but if everyone who's had one has had it during a spell effect, I guess that at least makes it easier to try to get around.

I've only played about three minutes of the game, but I definitely noticed the oddly low audio. Has there been any comment from Atlus about this? It seems like a weird and glaring mistake. There was no audio issue with Etrian Odyssey 4. Maybe something that could be fixed in a patch or is there some unfixable emulation/porting issue that has caused this?

If you are really worried about crashing, you should use the 2 spot Save Anywhere app you get after
beating Carol J the second time in the planetarium.

Nemechi decided to go on the Octopus path, so that means I'll actually get demons I want from it. Yay.

e: Oh he already added
Black Frost
. Yay.

Huh. I have played quite a number of SMT games, but I think that this is the only game where I actually successfully recruited a demon on a full moon. (And it was essentially "FULL MOON ME SO DRUNK, HOW SHITTY ARE HUMANS, HUMAN? SO SHITTY, AM I RIGHT? *joins*")

At the very least, the negotiation system is still random as hell, but it's less loop-prone than the SNES titles, and not as abusable as the Raidou titles.

Yeesh, all these people talking about the game freezing/crashing kinda has me worried :/...

is it more common on retail, downloaded or both versions?

Digital version here. Never had any freezes or problems so far. I was worried about it yesterday, but after playing the game for more than 10 hours now, don't think theres an issue with the digital version(?)

I have the digital version and I've had freezes.

This emperor sword is really strong. I'm only up to the
airport
though. Worth the grind at the casino.

I mean it's one of the strongest weapons you'll have access to until the post game so...

A couple of hours invested into the game and it's delivering on all fronts, as expected. I just wish the sound quality of the 3DS XL speakers wasn't so bad, I have it at full volume and it's still very low and muffled. And before you guys suggest headphones, I have and use them but when I rather not when I'm home alone.

I'm at that part too. Only since my Onishiwhatever died against Rei, it didn't show up. No recarm for me :(

EDIT: Oh wait, there it is.

I could be wrong, but I recall the Saturn version had Nemissa/Hitomi's portraits do a neat transition effect, and I think it was lost in the upgrade.

Yeah, there are two paths. It's why one of the options is to deevolve him or whatever (but you probably shouldn't do this until you've unlocked all of one path first).

I see, thank you.

Is there any point to the black panel app outside of making everyone's portrait turn into
Black Frost
?
