Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers |OT| New World Order, Old World Chaos

Though not "brutal" perhaps, the Juggler was the first boss I died to.

Died like 4 times.

I was stubborn and too lazy to get a demon with the aim boost spell so I kept trying to brute force it by using guns from the two humans, buffing attack, and hoping my attacks don't miss.

I almost got completely screwed on Juggler.

I don't know why I was expecting status effects to go away automatically, but his
silence spell
was brutal. Ended up just brute-forcing my way through the battle.

Also,
surprise robo-Moowis
caught me with my pants down something fierce.

There's a reason there are chests containing Dimutes right outside that boss's door.

He only got me once. Time after that I loaded up on magic demons and obliterated his Lhan Deargs before he could cast silence, and then auto'd him to death.

... Nothing could have stopped me from just focusing on the Lhans first....
... I forgot about the Dimutes I picked up on the way there....

holy crap I'm a dumbass.

How is this game? I picked it up on Wednesday, but I've been too addicted to Monster Hunter 3 Ulti and Fire Emblem to pay attention to anything else.

First boss I beat that I thought was challenging was the
Half naked purple bird guy showing his ass in the chip factory
. I had to use two demons casting mediarama each turn because his megidola would put everyone near death.

Got my first crash during the boss fight for the 2nd Vision Quest. Saved a little before so it wasn't too bad.

Casino dice game is addicting

Is it offline only good?
I've had a lot of fun with it. Really wish I had the choice for online play. Put in about 30 hours so far and it's been a blast. Still doing the quests for the first village (offline). There is an online portion with a completely different set of quests that you can solo offline.

MonHun was the choice.. but Kmart.com no longer had stock..
guess I might just wait for MH4 instead...

hmm. I was deciding between Soul Hackers and Devil Survivor: Overclocked.. (is the latter any good?)
Can't say. I have Overclocked but I haven't touched it. MH3 is still a great game even without Online IMO. Might be a while before we get MH4 stateside :(

Third Vision Quest question :
Does it matter much which one you decide to kill? I killed the water one, Apsu. If my deduction is fine, you will have to kill the demon Naomi didn't kill in the underground ruins, right? Is Naomi in that other Devil Summoner game? She and Rei seems to be mortal enemy because she killed her master?

Yes whichever you decided to kill will have repercussions later on in the game. That's all I'll say for now. Naomi isn't in any of the other games. Sadly.

Those are Dark demons and they won't join you through conversation. If a demon doesn't have a green smiley face when you choose Talk then they won't join your party through talking.

Sorry but I have a question about this. For some reason, I thought the face was only an indicator of whether a demon could ever be recruited and the emotion on the face indicated if it was possible with the current party alignment. I know the second part isn't true but is that first part true? I did encounter a demon that wouldn't join my party because of a specific demon but I'm not sure if that is a party alignment thing or demon specific.

I also encountered an demon that I'm almost positive didn't have a face at all but said something about waiting for me and wanted to join. I talk to all demons anyway but I'm kinda confused about what the face actually indicates.

It's more difficult than the DDS games, Persona 3, and Persona 4, but less difficult than SMT 1, SMT 2, and the first two persona games.

Unless it REALLY picks in difficulty (I'm right past the second Vision Quest now) I don't see it being harder than DDS, P3 FES, or OG P4.

Also I'm a little over 7 hours now. I think I'm going slow.

P3 FES and OG P4 were pathetically easy. I didn't die once in either. The press turn system really made the games easy, and, with 4's direct party control, P4 was even easier.

I thought both had some tricky bosses and random encounters. Same with DDS. Right now both bosses and encounters are easy in SH.

I thought Nocturne was easy on Normal too though...

Man, the story just doesn't flow properly at all.

Examples?

Kind of a dumb question perhaps, but one I've meaning to ask for a while:

Is there a way to scroll over spells in the camp screen to see what they do? I know you're given a description when in battle, but oftentimes I want to sift through my demons to see which are the best to summon based on their spells. But every time you touch the touchscreen it opens up the hacks window.

Can't help but laugh at the idea of a group of hackers having a GIANT 18 WHEELER SEMI that practically says "WE'RE A BUNCHA HACKERS" on the side of it as their home base.

Nobody sells Spookies shirts.

Atlus needs to up their merchandising game.

Japan's special edition came with this

Was there a trick to
the dolphin
besides stacking your party with mind/ice resistance? I beat it easy enough but it was slow going with my attacks dealing like 12 damage at a time.

Finally was able to make the lowest level General demon thanks to your wiki, Turnip! It was expensive but it appears to be really strong. Moreover, it's added to the compendium even if it's a Zoma fusion!

I dunno. This game just isn't grabbing me. Not sure what it is, but I'm not addicted to it like I have been with almost every other Megaten game I've played. Loved Strange Journey, loved Nocturne, loved Persona 4. I just got to the second vision quest and while I could play more, nothing except boredom has me going back to the game. Might be just how quickly you outgrow demons. I kinda like getting attatched to them I suppose? Anyone else feeling this way? Does the story ramp up soon? I wanna like this game, but its just not doing anything for me. Also the game froze on me and I hadn't saved for about 20 or 30 minutes, so that might be painting it in a bad light for me.

The Haunted House was so long.
It felt like forever, and in the end I just ended up rushing, not even trying to complete the maps any more.

I hope I didn't miss out on too many items.

Though I did get 3 pieces of armor for Nemissa that are North/East/South, saying that with the right armor they do something.
I never got that West one, did I miss out on it for good?

There's 4 armor pieces and if you equip all of them it gives quite a boost to all of her stats.

You should be able to go back and get it if you can reenter the Haunted House. It's located
at the NE corner of the sixth floor.
If you wear them all at the same time, Nemissa gets +4 St/En and +2 In/Ma/Ag/Lu.

It's the only equipment set that's worth using, but that's not saying a whole lot.
