Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers |OT| New World Order, Old World Chaos

Yep.
I had a string of good luck last night which got me up to 68k coins, but since then I've been getting cheated out of winning repeatedly. Lots of straights, flushes, full houses, and even when I get a pair, the CPU will do me one better. I'll get a pair of kings and it'll pull out a pair of aces!

Bleh, I wish I had that kind of luck period. All I want is this super broken sword (although, doing about two thousand damage as I have heard will probably break the game more than I would initially think)!

Dice game is super easy and totally broken, barely an hour on it and I made like 100-120k, enough to buy the Emperor blade, top armor, gloves and boots for both MC and Nemissa. Probably will grind for helmets and goddess blade later.

I usually try the dice game, but I get really poor luck on it. I'll probably try it later.

Really loving this game so far. Playing with automap on, because it just takes too much time for me to explore a dungeon otherwise. I'm at the third (I think) dungeon, the museum one. I took a break to read the discussions that occurred in this thread during the first two days of the game's release, which helped answer a lot of my questions. I still have a few I didn't see answered, though. I'm sure they've been answered elsewhere though, so thanks to those of you who are always patient with new comers and always answering our questions!

When loyalty is maxed, will the demon ALWAYS perform any command without losing any loyalty? And if so, does the personality type matter for anything any longer? Finally, does it take long to raise a demon's loyalty, and does feeding a demon sake result in a permanent change? Just want to know about this last one before going into a dungeon and getting stuck with a bunch of demons with the same personality :p

This dungeon reminds me of a dungeon in Rogue Galaxy.

Yes, demons will always follow your orders and will no longer lose loyalty when it is maxed out.
Different personality types have different effects when loyalty is maxed. Kind demons will take a mortal blow for the hero, Wild demons will have a 10% increase in damage output, Sly and Dumb demons can be turned into fabulous prizes using Victor's Mystic Change option.
Any loyalty gained while a demon is under the effects of sake is permanent, yes, but the personality change is temporary.

Thanks! Definitely going to keep some sake to make my maxed demons kind for boss battles then. It's great to have finally figured out the system now. I had been talking to everybody but not quite getting it... this will definitely change the way battles play for me now.

That's not true, I had a Wild demon not use magic when I wanted it to.
And then its loyalty went down.

I know for a fact that it was maxed, because it went back up with the next single attack.

Goodness, annoying when I have a demon with the last resort ability as it almost always uses it even when everyone in the party has full health. Of course this is only when I use the Go ability but I accidentally hit it sometimes.

And the enemy actions go by so fast, whiplash.

The best way to win in the dice game is to just bet on 7, because it's gonna roll it anyway.

*bitter*

Its best if you're just doing it while really doing something else so you don't dwell on every roll. I was watching a program on History yesterday about Caligula and by the time that loony toon got done in by his own guards I was rolling in coins.

There was this one encounter I had early on, but I dunno if it's been expanded upon or anything.
It's an optional encounter as well, as you can easily miss it if you're not walking around fast enough on the world map.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
I can't even remember the characters they were.

You can bump into Rei and Madam Ginko coming out of the Goumaden at the very beginning of the game before you first visit the hideout.

Yeah, VS Poker is totally exploitable. I've just been playing the odds, finishing each run with the 1200 bet, exiting out and repeating. Made about 10k coins in about a half hour. Just wanted to see what it would take, but I'm not in any hurry to break the game with those ridiculous items.

Yeah. I only need 5k more coins to reach my goal, so I'm getting impatient.

I find winning up through the 2500 tier to be super easy. 5000 starts laying on cheat mode, and 10000 can be a big jerk. But I've won the 10000 bet in Vs. Poker 4 times now.

Can you fuse a Zoma Zeed or enter the Sea Arc? If you can do both, fuse the Zoma Zeed and use it, it costs 0 mag to summon and drains 0 mag when walking. Use it and Nemissa in the sea arc and dominate low level enemies for some free MAG

Thanks for the tip. But now I'm really short on Yen. I have 3100, and it costs 2340 to revive Nemissa, who just died due to my carelessness. I'd love to buy some equipment, too.

edit: Shit, I just fused a Zoma that didn't seem particularly spectacular and now the menu option is gone. What do I do when I want to fuse another one?

Questions about the pet shop (demon spoilers?)

Is there a point to getting all the ranger jack frost palette swaps? I have 4 of them but the last request is labeled as ???? . Can you fuse all of them together?

You can keep fusing demons onto the zoma to power it up. You can revert it to a doll by fusing to it on a new moon.

Huh, the last one should be open and asking for Metatron. But yeah, once you have all five of them, take them to the Goumaden and they'll fuse into a new demon
.

Maybe my level is too low or I have to progress more :S . According to the wiki that demon is level 80. No way I can make that yet :p

Was reading the wiki on how Zoma works. Trying to wrap my head around the whole thing, but...

Try to make a Hero or General with it. They are really strong and usually come with good skill sets.

But I'm confused. Do you have to revert it back to a doll every time you want to make a new Zoma-type thingie, or do you just keep adding more demons to the existing Zoma?

And if it only inherits roughly 2/3 of a demon's power, what's the benefit of it aside from not having to use Mag and it always obeying you. Those alone aren't really selling me on the whole thing.

If you make a hero or general, it turns into a demon that is classed like a special race demon with unique stats and skills with the only difference that you cannot fuse it. If you want to turn your hero or general into another hero/general, fuse it with any demons to revert it to a zoma then fuse with the right demon during the right moon phase.

If you keep adding demons to a zoma it could be strong and useful since you control the skills it inherit rather easily.

10,11,12 is the best bet for dice in my opinion with 11 being the roll I get most often for a win, usually with a pretty high multiplier.

I'm loving the atmosphere of this game. And I don't think the overall presentation feels dated, at least not in a way that impacts my enjoyment of it. Loving this so far! Glad to have a nice experience with my first SMT-related game.

  • The Atmosphere is great and a refreshing take on many JRPGs, not often do you see a cyberpunk environment being used often. From someone who has watched blade runner and GOTS, this game had my interest BEFORE I got into SMT. Watching the PSX opening of this game, I knew that this was going to be something special.
Also like the small Native American-esque Vision Quest as well.
  • Gameplay is solid and like someone said earlier in this thread, its like a better version of Persona 1, with a smoother presentation and quick battles. With someone who has limited experienced first-person dungeon crawling, I can fully say that this game my peak my interest in the sub-genre. Demons not leveling up took me off guard at first, but I've gotten used to fusing my demons at a much more regular pace.
  • VA is alright and helps with the story. However, having it for shop conversations is a bit too much and unnecessary.

Overall:

Oh and can some one help me:
I'm in the airport, and Finnegan's demons are kicking my ass. I'm Lvl 20 and Nemessia around 16. What are some tips you guys have?

Tomat

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Played for about an hour last night and did the first vision quest with Urabe. Battles are suuuuper fast, had to turn the messages down to slow to keep track of what was going on. First battle for me was resolved through talking with the demons instead of fighting (I know this is a SMT staple, but I'm not sure I ever tried it the little time I have put into Nocturne) which was awesome. Already finding the dungeon navigation to be more interesting than Etrian Odyssey 4's dungeons due to the urban setting (not that EO's dungeons are bad or anything). Loving the heck outta the soundtrack so far too.

Question: Should I wait until a demon is loyal before I start giving them commands? I'm afraid to tell them what to do because I don't want them running away. Pretty much keeping commands to emergencies right now where somebody is about to do.

Also screw that Quiz dungeon. I am too uncultured for that place.

  • VA is alright and helps with the story.
Completely agree with this. The VA isn't the best stuff ever, but it's helped me get into the characters already. Love it. Save for the "HEE-HO" at the theater. It's funny, but cringeworthy.

Just to make sure, you realize you got some of Judah's demons when getting the memory card, right? They help the most.

I am free from the casino. Happy days.

Can I siphon your luck just for a little bit?

Hell, do I even really want the casino prize equipment? I'll probably try harder to get them if they'll just get your party members a slight edge. But it seems like they're of the "so powerful that you won't need demons ever" variety, and I dunno about making my first playthrough that trivial.

That dungeon was stupidly long and tedious. You have to go around the two towers back and forth backtracking and the bosses were kinda underwhelming.

Yea, problem is that I don't have enough mag to summon them. Which brings my to my next question, how do I get large amounts of MAG on such short notice?

yes but now Things Are Happening.

(really, that dungeon's chief purpose is to be a place where you can gather fusion components for the endgame)

Easiest way to get MAG at your current point is leave the Amami airport and go to sea ark. Fight the enemies on the second floor with just Nemissa, Hero, and the Zoma if possible til you acquire enough MAG that you're satisfied.

Edit: In case you don't know where Sea Ark is, it's on the west end of Amami Bay.

There's a side-quest where you can farm tons of MAG, at least 2000-5000 per run if you just do the first two auto-moving segments. And steps 4-7 are repeatable as long as you don't beat the side-quest's boss at the end.

1. After the second Vision Quest, go to the Bathhouse forum in Paradigm X and talk to the old man.
2. Meet him again in front of the bank.
3. After accepting his request, go to the new area in Amami City, Yurashima. You can enter the Amami Bypass freeway at the toll booth near the start of it.

*4. Shortly after entering the freeway, you'll be in an auto-moving segment where you can only move left and right to avoid the holes.
*5. Back on the map after the first segment, keep moving south to enter the second auto-moving segment (Or, if you're weakened from battles, take the off-ramp on the east side of the freeway).
*6. After the second segment, you'll be at the Amami Bay section of the bypass. Once again, you can move north to the third auto-moving segment or take the west off-ramp to exit the freeway.
*7. After the third segment, heal up with items/magic, because the boss is next, at the part of the freeway that's incomplete. As always, you can use the south off-ramp to exit the freeway if you're not ready to fight.

8. The boss is pretty tough if you're underleveled; you might want to wait until after the airport before trying to face it.
BOSS:
Nose & 3 Headless Riders - At first, Nose will hang out in the back and hurl insults at the party. The riders will do the attacking; these riders have a unique special attack in that they'll target the demons with personality type that they yell out. They can only yell out Kind, Sly, and Wild, so you could negate this special attack completely by only bringing in Dumb and Calm demons. Anyways, the Headless Riders are weak to Fire, so make sure to have a demon with Maragi and/or multi-hit physicals. Once the riders are down, Nose will move to the front and start attacking. He hits hard, so have Nemissa or a strong healer use Media frequently. Keep using Fire attacks, status buffs/de-buffs, and single-target physical attacks to eventually win.

9. Go back to the old man in front of the bank to turn in the quest. I don't know if whether you show your ID or not matters. (I showed my ID)
10. Afterwards, go into the bank to claim your reward. (
50,000 Yen deposited into your account
)
11. (Optional) After turning in the quest,
go back to the tollbooth in Yurashima. The gate guard will have some extra dialogue related to this side-quest.

* If you want to farm magnetite, don't avoid the holes. The battles are tough, but winnable, as each battle gives ~300 MAG & ~100 EXP, and moving on the freeway doesn't use up any MAG. If you need healing, just exit from one of the off-ramps and head to the Sea Ark in Amami Bay to heal. Keep in mind that the Amami Bypass closes once you beat the boss.

EDIT: As cj_iwakura points out, this side-quest must be completed before you finish the Auto Plant in the main story. If you finish the auto plant before completing the side-quest, you'll get a message on Summoner Net saying that someone else was assigned to the Amami Bypass.

I hate to say it, but I think my interest in this game is waning. I'm at the dungeon that follows the airport (that's all I'll say about that), and I'm finding myself completely underpowered and a bit frustrated. There are some interesting looking demon fusions on the horizon, but I can't make any of them until I grind a bit. And I want new equipment, but I hardly have any money.

I wish this game was as smooth-going as EO4.

If you want to make money, just look at Zero's post above. Get a lot of MAG and convert that to money at one of the shops.

Btw, when should I actually kill that boss at the bypass? Is it worth it to leave that boss alone till the end of the game if I want more MAG?

Im on the final male form, and I have all the male path demons in my thing except for the final one that just wont show up for me,

If you're having that much trouble, open up the hack menu (touch the touchscreen) and set the difficulty to "down." It lowers pretty much everything, including the MAG cost of demons.
