Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers |OT| New World Order, Old World Chaos

It's not hard, but you definitely should give the manual a look. Then you'll be alright.

I'm about to enter the final dungeon and I barely even had to engage myself into all these SMT buff/spell titles so far.

I strongly suggest them before taking on the final boss. Also, how you handled Vision Quest 3 determines whether it's a magical or physical build.

I think I'll soon be done with the Amami Monolith (3/4 passwords), but I'm not sure what the fuss was about. Battles aren't any worse than before (outside of some insta death spells, but I have perma-save installed for that...) and unlike the monkey sidequest, I never felt blocking random encounters was that necessary. If anything, I rather wanted to level and eventually skip battles through talking to demons that I have from the dungeon.
All in all, it's just long and boring. Too bad the game has to end on such a weak note.

It isn't over yet.

Played a couple of hours, liking the story so far.
Voice acting is good, I agree that it wouldn't have been as good back then.
Feels good to be back in smt land.

Not sure what you're referring to about it ending on a weak note -- I thought the ending was well worth it.

But the area you're referring to just feels like a wild goose chase. It's convoluted as dungeons go. Not as bad as some folks make it out to be, but it does start to grate toward the end and you just want to be done with it. It's designed with the same sort of padding I remember from PC games of the early 90s.

Hi GAF.

Got this game a couple of days ago (EU why so long...) and loving it so far. Setting and story are just what I wanted. VA is really good, Nemissa is awesome :) .

So far most of my damage is done by the hero + nemissa... all my fused demons are crap. Does anyone know of a comprehensive guide to the demons + fusions? I hear the NA version had some sort of chart but the EU version doesn't...

I'm liking the setting so much I just ordered Devil Survivor 1 + pre-ordered Devil Survivor 2.

DS1&2 are very different games but they are some of the best strategy rpgs money can buy, you wont be disappointed.

It's best to use your demons for buffing and debuffing. Get one with Tarukaja, one with Rakukaja, one with Makakaja, Rakunda, etc. Bonus if a Zoma gets them. (A custom demon that costs no MAG, you get him later on.)

I was wondering, is there a way to see what spells do during the fusion process? You can see what spells do once you have the demon, but I'm a bit scared fusing them not knowing what abilities they'll have. Sure is handy that they tell you which spells they'll have, but the names are so crazy I still have no idea what I'll end up with.

Edit: Also, I fused a demon and used it in a few battles, when suddenly he teleported over to the enemy side and left me? Will it come back or something?

And: Battles are harder than they have to be because of the erratic demon behaviour. Is there a way to make them listen to you more often?

There is no way to see what they do during fusion as far as I'm aware. Here is a list that might help: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/997805-shin-megami-tensei-devil-summoner-soul-hackers/66044330

Demons leaving is related to the loyalty system: Basicaly when you get a new demon you need to do what pleases him (e. g. if it is a "kind" type demon you need to guard or heal. This increases the loyalty meter and when its at the top you can order him as you want without much problems.

I am loving the game but some things are a bit hard to figure and info is hard to find... I want to completely fill the compendium but without a list of all possible fusions and where demons are located it sounds unnecessarily hard.

Oh, I see! That is why they say things like they don't feel like attacking in red, etc. I guess I kind of pushed my demon to keep attacking against his will and that's why he left. That is kind of cool I guess, but it would be even cooler to have known while I wasn't in the middle of a dungeon :p

lol, the final boss was still pretty easy (not to mention the Monolith bosses). I almost beat it unprepared at my first try, I only had problems because it was dodging too often (still got it to red health) - but luckily some demon in the dungeon has an aim buff. (And other than that, sometimes the DEF buff and the healing spells you really didn't need to think about anything else to get through this game, even as a SMT beginner like me)

Great game, I guess I'll check out SMT4 when it comes out here, but I definitely prefer the 90s cyberpunk/anime over what the rest of the series has to offer. But the gameplay is really good, probably the only Pokemon-esque title I've enjoyed (outside of PKMN itself) due to the conversation system and fusions.

Finally beat the game, that last boss was absolutely kicking my ass with his laser attacks until i fused a demon with def buff, then it was too easy. Just realized there is a huge gap in 3DS releases that i'm interested in until Bravely Default in December. Guess it's time to work on that PS+ backlog ...

I'm two hours in. So glad this got a PAL release, I'd rather take this one than SMT IV.

I'm loving this so far. The music and cyberpunk aesthetics just appeal to me. I'm also digging the 90's vibe in the game, it feels nostalgic even though I've never played it. Dem CGI cutscenes.

Also got one streetpass hit for this game today. Pretty surprising since this series is not popular in my country.

Will be participating in this thread when I've played more.

Does anyone know what to do to Fuse Oliver or where to find it. Need it to do one of the Pet requests and can't for the life of me figure it out.

I'm 9 hours in and still absolutely love this game. I'm at the airport now and probably a bit overleveled/equipped. I'm blasting through with my mains and a with a Dokkaebi with Rakunda and Undine with Media/Diarama. Only keep these two summoned to lower the MAG use. In the beginning I had problems fusing viable demons but now I'm getting the hang of it. Also it is a huge help to have 12 block them now. I love how fast the battles go and how fun the negotiations are. Also the save anywhere function is a god-send, though I always forget it even exists.

I've also used the bypass trick to get more MAG. I had huge problems in the beginning with MAG use but now I can manage easily.

One question: Will the loyalty of Sly demons go down if I use supportive magic, such as Rakunda or Dia?

Can't see why not. Also, the Airport music is amazing. One of my favorites.

just played it for a couple of hours to see how it is, looking good so far. I have to finish some games then I'll play this properly.

I'm about 15 hours in. Just beat Leon Auto Plant. Still loving this game, might go as far as say that this is my favorite 3DS game.

At the moment I'm addicted to the casino. Have about 50,000 coins and could get the Emperor Sword already. Might go for the equipment that are there as well. I think they might break the game, but I don't have to use them I guess.

The difficulty rose in the Plant dungeon and I died there a lot. The boss was also quite tough and just barely beat him. I'll see how difficult this gets.

I'm at 31 hours, lv 56, in what I'm assuming is the final dungeon.
This is definitely top tier SMT, great game, to think that I never would've played it without this remake. Love Nemissa.
I'm addicted to the music that plays during the intro.

Only one gripe with the story:
when Rei reveals that Hitomi's soul is disappearing there's no reaction from the MC, that is really weird. I was expecting a dialogue option to pop up where you could tell Nemissa to gtfo or at least reinforce the sense of urgency of completing the mission but there's no reaction, it's like "lol whatever".

Being limited to just sword and gun with the MC feels a bit limiting but makes sense.

I need to hit the casino, I have ignored it until now.

Did you watch the second intro after the title screen? It's even better.

And in all fairness,
Look at the MC. Does he look like someone who cares about anything?

SMT intros tend to be very spoilerish so I've been avoiding that one.

And he should care, Hitomi is a sweetheart.

why is there no full track version of the intro to be found? someone should ask atlus directly. i don't believe that's the complete track. we deserve to have it.

I've been playing more of SMT IV recently and I definitely prefer having demon's that don't level up like in Soul Hackers. I'm usually fusing new demons as soon as possible, so I never even get to level them up more than once or twice. I also feel like the abilities the demon's have in Soul Hackers were more unique too. It's almost as there is no difference at all with the demons in SMT IV. That might just be because I'm not far enough yet though. Or maybe I'm playing it wrong, idk. I'm level 25 btw.

Nemissa is awesome. This isn't my favorite SMT game, but she made me finish!

ok, I'm feeling it. (finally) started to play and I'm already 3-4 hours in.
I don't know if some items can help later on but right now it's quite hard to recruit new demons.

fucking
Erika.
or more like the 3 monsters that she has, I had no idea that you could avoid all of them but I guess I picked the wrong choice 3 times, amazing.
time to grind, I suppose.

great, took me like 15 tries to beat her but I did. basically don't leave her as the last enemy standing because if you do she spams mabufala and it's pretty much game over. I wish there was a walkthrough that mentioned this.

also, selling MAG is clearly the best way to make money.

Yeah, Erika with full party is a nightmare. She broke me in the Saturn version because I had no idea about the choices.
they're stupidly strong if they use all their best moves and hit all the party, when I got that unlucky (I'd say 4-5 times at least) I died at the second turn of the fight.

anyway I was wondering if stuff like digest mode (really nice) and the "difficulty hack" were in the original version too or if they were added to the 3DS version along with nemechi and some improvements.

All the hacks are new to the 3DS version.

With that said, what is the "digest mode"? I can't remember what it is.
