Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Yeah, I don't really see the problem either. If you want to MF efficiently either find a dedicated party, or just run solo. If you can't solo something, then you don't really deserve the loot so much, so don't cry about not getting it with as high a percentage of MF as you 'could have', because no, you couldn't.

And about the 3 people idling in the town argument - yeah, that makes sense... Now it only takes 4 people to get to 3/4 of decent MF when you kill the 4-people adjusted mobs all by yourself! Outrage! Seriously, why wouldn't you just stack MF and go about your business solo...?

Just played for a bit, impressions;

- Hardcore mode is bugged. I can't create a hardcore character, I receive an error message.

- Wizards were nerfed hard! Especially Arcane powers, which in my opinion, is a good thing.

- Gold drop has increased 10x, crafting is more difficult and getting a rare tooth is much more rare.

- No rings and ammys make me sad.

- Game seems to run a little smoother for me, but I still get massive screen tearing. Though my video card is like 1,400 years old.

- Monsters are much stronger and unique monsters spawn at almost double the rate. They also have a few more modifiers such as "Nightmarish" which causes you to flee when critically hit.

All in all this is a good patch. The difficulty increase is just what the game needed.

Pretty much.

Honestly, since loot is now worth actual money I think you can expect them to do a lot more to manage the economy and keep people from farming too effectively.

And I really can't say that I mind that. If they succeed, it'll be really interesting to have a game in which there are *genuinely* rare items.

-Skill drag and drop, which is supposed to be in, doesn't work as far as I can tell.

The drag and drop from the hotbar on the field to clear your current skills works and you can go back to normal attack now by clearing your left and right mouse click.

Didn't try the drag skills from UI to hotbar.

Also the levels you get skills are slightly reworked too. Playing a barb with Seismic Slam and GET-OVER-HERE Ancient Spear is quite satisfying.

Oooh, we can use ancient spear now?

With all the skill shuffling going around it seems like they want us to give feedback on skills by making some of them lower level since they can't increase the level cap in the beta.

That patch is huge. I like almost everything about it. And the HC-fans should be pleased aswell.
Looking forward to trying it out today.

Barb is awesome, definitely my main in retail. Very cool that you can try out 2 new skills now, got my 6th run planned for the weekend!

Hmm, the updater has been stuck at 0% for a long time now....
Tried closing and starting it back up again? That helped most of the time when it stopped updating for me.

Updated to patch 14, still can't log in. It's been 3 weeks with no proper answer from Blizzard on the subject and a lot of people are affected by it (50+page thread on the bnet forums that got unsticky'd a few days ago with nothing said) grrrr. Come on Blizzard, I want to play for christ sake! :(

Demon Hunter got two new abilties to try, Preparation and Smoke Screen, both of which seem pretty worthless at such a low level without any rune effects. They made the bola shot instant explode when firing at environment objects, while it still has a delay for mobs. I get the change, just seems odd from a functionality point of view. I don't guess they care whether it's explainable in game or not. :P Also the "Chain Gang" rune is now available for Entangling Shot.

The change in item lvl requirement is pretty odd. All of my blue crafted pants went to a lvl 14 requirement except one pair I've been using for MF/GF. They went to lvl 28 requirement. I also have a crappy helm with some MF/GF on it that also went to lvl 28. Luckily I still have all of my rings and amulets and I was keeping two white hand xbows that do 16 dps each. It's a good thing too, as all of my other hand xbows are now too high lvl to be wielded.

* - They also added a rune ability to Rapid Fire reducing initial cost to 5 hatred and adding fire damage. This is one is really nice.

Happy to see hardcore mode has been reduced from finished normal to level 10 character.

Means I'll only have to play softcore for 10 levels and then the real Diablo begins!

So... I got to play through the beta at last on a friend's account. I'd seen others play it in our internet cafe, and had clicked around a bit, but actually playing was quite a different experience.

Could be that I'm starved for anything Diablo, but I really liked it. The atmosphere and gameplay were all Diablo, music is nice, sorceress spells looked great. Can't wait for the mythical day to actually come.
Even the floating red orbs I hated seeing on videos were not so distracting while playing.

However, it's really a shame that a company of Blizzard's resources couldn't create a more scale-able engine to take advantage of modern day PCs.
Especially on that scene where the wall breaks and skeletons run out while the camera zooms in... it was worse than WoW, reminded me of Warcraft 3 models, extremely out of place and cartoon like. I hope there are not many such zooms since they opted to go the low-poly, outdated graphics way.

You can't in the beta.

As for HC mode, what do they accomplish by making you play for 10 lvls?

I guess it's so that idiots don't accidentally try to do hardcore mode from the beginning.

Honestly, they should just give you the option to choose hardcore from the start. Changing it from "you have to complete normal first" to "you have to complete the first 10 levels first" is pretty ridiculous.

And I was just thinking last night that now everyone is going to bitch about having to level to 10 before you start a HC character. For first timers that may want to play hardcore I really don't think that playing a single character to level 10 and learning a bit about the game mechanics is that big of a deal. For anyone that wants to play hardcore right away and has played Diablo before they are looking at maybe 1.5 to 2 hrs time commitment at the most.

Am I blind? Where is ancient spear?

Stuttering slightly better... haven't tried on OSX yet. Still not as smooth as it was 2 patches ago.

Level 9
Use Elective Mode in Gameplay options to get to it.

Game feels a lot better to play imo.
Feels like more mobs, they dealing more damage.

I already knew Barbarian was going to be beastly in this game but now they have a 30% damage reduction by default as well? Wow. Monk is going to be great too.

Really good patch, haven't tried out hardcore mode yet though! Forgot the name of the skill... But that new monk skill that summons a giant bell looks badass.

I don't think it means much except that it's not really their priority for the product. Which is fine by me, I never got the appeal of Diablo PvP and I'm incredibly happy to have it out of the main game. If there's one change I'm unquestionably happy about, it's that one.

Well it means that the game isn't feature complete. Sure, WoW didn't have Battlegrounds until they were patched in, and Arenas weren't introduced until Burning Crusade, but before then at least you had world PvP. And you sort of expect major patches with an MMO, which Diablo is not.

Now, it doesn't seem as if there will be any form of PvP until they patch this in. PvP may not be the main focus of the game, but it's a gaping hole in the feature set.

Since I'm really eager to play Diablo 3, I consider the momentary cutting of the PvP in favor of a faster release simply great.

Furthermore PvP is at its best once characters are well beefed up and excellently equipped, which will require its play time.

How many promised post launch features for sc2 has blizzard not yet fullfilled ?

No dedicated PvP system at launch? Weird must be getting a lot of pressure from the higher ups to get their shit shipped.

Still think its stupid there is only 4 players per game.

PvP not ready yet, huh? If that's what it takes, then go for it.

What the heck have they been doing with their time all this time? Haven't they been content complete for a long time now?

Six years with multiple cuts and signicant system changes at the end makes me agree the development has not gone smoothly at all...I like blizzard games but Im alittle nervous with this one.

As much as i am anticipating this game, and i probably won't play much pvp, i don't like this trend of releasing "finished" games and promising to add stuff later. If they hadn't announced said features, we wouldn't feel this way. I am on the fence on this issue

According to a Jay Wilson tweet, this patch appears to be the last one and is basically the "release candidate" version of the game.

Means release is soon. Hopefully they get their server issues straightened out.

what is currently in the beta is what we intend for ship, but we're still tuning and things can change.
Hmm

PVP cut = activison not letting blizzard do their normal cycle of "we'll ship when it's ready"

and so it begins...

Yeah... I don't want any Blizzard property 'call-of-duty-ized' but 6(?) years is goddamn long enough. At a certain point it stops being about meticulous attention to detail, and becomes about a busted, inefficient development pipeline.

I can't get the beta to update. :( :(

I had that problem too. I opened task manager, force quit the updater, then let it sit for a while. Went back, closed it again, opened it again, and then it started updating. Go figure.

Also you probably want to make sure that your firewall or antivirus or something isn't blocking anything.

I pretty much had to do the same. It sat at 0% the first few times too.

I wonder how close to release close is? Will be nice to actually play it!

I want Activision to step it up a little with Blizzard and this game. It's taking forfuckingever to release. And each post they do, they cut or change something that should have been thought of 2 years ago. Every time Blizzard or Jay posts something about the game, I just groan. The only post or topic they should do from now on is, This is the date we are releasing...have a nice day. Not that I was looking forward to the Pvp, but it's just another thing that's cut or changing this late in development.
