Install went live globally; 12:01 AM PDT is when the servers go live and the US can start playing.

Exactly...but if DarkD3 keeps updating in the following months and suddenly adds something that Blizzard doesn't like you could get banned without warning.

I have a friend who asked me to purchase the game for him online in exchange for the cash. He said I could log on to his account and make the purchase (gave me username and password) but I do not feel so comfortable doing that. So here are my questions.

1.) Can I gift the game to someone if I setup my own account?

2.) Can I purchase the digital version through a 3rd party?

3.) Any other suggestions?

People have modded SC2 textures and been fine. A simple post-processing filter won't get anyone banned.

I can't advise you play Diablo II because as a solo experience is sucks balls and it doesn't feel very Diablo-y except for act IV which was amazing but brutally short.

Yes, then you just download the client and log in with your Battle.net account.
