I'm assuming if you were in beta, which means you have Starter Edition like I do, which means some data was left over from beta, including your progress up to Skeleton King.

We like to tell new guys to play Barbarians. They are easy to play as, and you will pick up a lot of foundation knowledge

With him it's impossible to know. It could be a bit of both, rage channeled to produce quality content. Which is probably the case.
