Did "The Ring" scare you as a kid/adult?

Oh, absolutely. I think I first saw The Ring and Ringu when I was 13, I actually checked them out because of Scary Movie 3 lol. Wanted to know what the fuck it was parodying. Movies scared the shit outta me.

the end of the movie will FOREVER be seared into my memory on account the unified reaction of my theater. 0_0

I am really desensitized to scary movies now. Basically I need really good surprise moments to really get me. It can't be cliché because I have seen so many movies I can see it coming.

Honestly I don't think modern day scary movies even try. They either went the overly gross route like Saw, The Hills have Eyes, etc., or they go the Blaire Witch route like Paranormal Activity or one of the many movies about possession.

Kind of why I stick with action films. They added some comedy and have never changed the formula since but I am OK with it.

It left me unsettled. Also I really hate static on tvs now. Saw it when I was 11 with my sister and her friend. We watched it on DVD, and after the movie was over, I was messing with the menu and found the hidden feature to actually watch the tape. Right after it finished, the phone rang.

Good film with great atmosphere and creepy/unsettling imagery. Movies don't really scare me, but The Ring was effective in building tension and the twist was cool back in the day.

The idea of no escape scenarios in a lot of 90s and 00s Japanese horror films scared me pretty badly. Anything like The Grudge (Juon), The Ring (Ringu), or even Jurei: The Uncanny horrified me. You have no way out and no matter what you do, you're fucked. Gives me the willies.

Absolutely. I saw this film on Channel 4 one night way past my bed time. Used to love catching foreign and cult classic films late at night.
Only seen it once when it first come out on DVD, and wasn't scared at all, and thought it was pretty boring.

Maybe I should give it another try.
I watched it again recently and while it is fairly well made. It didn't scare me this time around.

That shit was just out of nowhere. Loved it.

Saw it in the theater when it came out. On the drive home I nearly had a panic attack in the car and almost ran off the road because my friend was in the back and flicked at my ear to fuck with me. Couldn't stop crying and shaking with fear when I was trying to sleep that night. I'd never felt fear like that before or since and looking back it was pretty awesome.

Like others have said it was the faces and jump cut movements that did it. The House on Haunted Hill remake had similar stuff and also really creeped me out.

Ring and the short "Rings" that came with Ring 2 DVD were fucking brilliant.

Ring 2, man so so bad, I have no idea what happened in that in that movie or why it happened.

I thought it was kinda creepy, but not scary at all. Nope. I just didn't make sense to me. So what if Samara climb out of the tv? Can't I sucker punch her? If Sarah Conner climb out of it, I may be genuine scared.

Yup, 2spooky4me.

The Grudge was even better. That fucking reflection of Sadako in the window on that bus scared the shit out of the entire theater when I saw that originally.

Oh gosh yeah. It HORRIFIED me for years as a kid, and I had had a small mirror that looked almost identical to one in the movie. Needless to say that mirror was taken down really quickly.

Grudge girl was a mean ass bitch, killed you just for going inside a dumb house and for even associating with people who are currently "cursed". At least with Ring girl you had to go out of your way to watch a damn VHS and she was nice enough to call you up and give you a heads up.

I feel like I'm missing something because this movie did not terrify me like it apparently did other people. And that's not me bragging or anything: I am a gigantic pussy. Horror movies usually get to me, but this one just didn't. Maybe I need to rewatch

This.

I watched it when I was 16. Dude in front of me turned around at some point and asked me if I was going to shut up at some point. He was right to complain. Fuck that movie.

Yes. The Ring is actually the only horror movie that's ever scared the hell out of me, since jump scares don't do much for me (I'd just be surprised for a bit and then go back to being whatever).

I remember I was so scared that, when I went to bed that night, I left Kingdom Hearts on, in the menu screen (where Sora, Donald, and Goofy are all walking toward the player). The thought was that they could fuck up Samara if she showed up.

You know, I'm a big fan of the horror genre, but I can't remember the last time I was scared by a film, and it's certainly never happened while being in a room full of people. I'm kind of envious because I slept like a baby after watching The Ring.

I think the big jump scare
with samara coming out of the TV, and that jump edit
was big for me, but mainly because I was on the edge of my seat for everything after
the scene where Naomi Watts's character is telling her son it's okay, because the ghost is free, and he just bolts upright and is like "YOU DID WHAT?!"

It scared the ever-living fuck out of me when I was younger. So many nightmares.

Ringu is better though, it actually displays some subtlety. The remake is just so loud and blue and...Hollywood. The worst thing about it is how it creates artificial tension by beginning every scene with a loud noise. It's really obnoxious.

I recently watched The Ring on Acid/LSD at 4am.

It was as horrifying as it sounds.

It freaked me the hell out as a young teen, not going to lie.
They should totally make a 3D version. That would be insane.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Original Ringu, both the "climax" at the end, the overall atmosphere, the actual video and the entire story takes a massive Halloween dump over The Ring. It did scare me a few times, especially with that one particular jump scare, but Ringu, along with Blair Witch Project are the two horror movies that obliterates the competition.

watched it on DVD shortly after release in my apartment...alone...at night...as a young adult. It scarred me. I had to hang out at friends' places for awhile for fear of being home alone with my tv :)

The Hollywood remake was a colossal pile of shit and not even remotely terrifying. Just look at how shit Sadako looks in it.

The Japanese original was far superior and incredibly tense. Same for the OG Grudge too.
