Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't come out and call it a super-charged PC architecture, altered to make it better for gaming.

Yes, lower load times across the board should definitely happen, the same as with PS4 Pro.I'm speaking in general terms- games will benefit in some fashion... Load times will decrease, etc. Could have been clearer in my comment though.
For sure, way too many juniors. 👀Cringe post after cringe post. This has to be a secondary troll account lol.

Oh Jesus Christ...you're blind, or in denial if you've never read the ridiculous stuff out there about DF being biased towards Sony this gen...just like the same was said last gen, but instead by Sony fans...
Christ Almighty, just search around the web for how many Xbox fans think GAF is some sort of Sony hive mind
Here...just a Google search away

Ummm, it won't be able to record HDR!
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealedAlso integrated is the latest AMD media block, meaning that the Xbox GameDVR gets an upgrade to 4K60 using the next-gen HEVC codec - you can even capture your content in full HDR.
wut? how did you get any of that from my half sentence? but yes last poll showed 6x more Sony fans then xbox fans on GAF. It doesn't even out. It should be 2 to 1 not 6 to 1.
I don't buy 700 dollar smart phones.SuperÑ;233468701 said:You all people worried about paying 499usd for a console and not batting an eye when getting a flagship phone for +699usd.
And don't get me started on those complaints "no ryzen no buy". OCed Jaguar is the only route.
The downplaying of it is laughable. That sounds like a pretty nice change. The Xbox One almost certainly didn't already possess that, or else I don't see Microsoft talking like it's new.
The thing was punching in the same league with GTX 1070. It was the heavily optimized Forza engine, but that is fucking impressive when compared to the PC Ultra 4K equivalent. Damn impressive. People once laughed at the idea that this thing would be in the range of 980/TI much less 1070. Not every game may have these amazing results, but those results are damn impressive.
Well done.Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't come out and call it a super-charged PC architecture, altered to make it better for gaming.

Yup, there is no special customization and no secret sauce. When it comes to companies making noteworthy hardware customizations in the console space, that usually comes from Sony as they are a hardware company.
In this thread, we already have people claiming that the Scorpio is more powerful than the gtx 1080, lol. It's been really embarrassing coverage from digital foundry. Let Microsoft advertise their products by themselves. What we don't need is df trying to pass a paid ad as fact. I can't till the die shots come out from chip works.
Already in another thread on this forum, the "ultra" claim has been debunked due to different lod levels between the PC version and the screenshot. The screenshot is at lod 1 like the regular xb1 while the PC operates at lod 0(higher). It's just the xbox version at 4k and there are also questions about the 16x af claims as well.
Look, the Scorpio looks to be a fantastic piece of kit for a mid gen upgrade but it's just an rx480 and an overclocked jaguar. It's not more powerful than a 1080 or 1070 and once third party games drop, it'll be clear for everyone to see.
All I've seen today is the same pr nonsense we've seen with other consoles. Fp16, huma, power of the cloud, dx12 patch, and now it's a special dx12 co processor which is just a regular command processor. It's just sad and annoying.
you win.Lmao...your guilty conscience is speaking...
I made a simple statement about people having claimed DF have been pro Sony this gen...you tried to make some sly comment about there being 2 people on the entire internet that have made this claim...a simple Google search of "digital foundry Sony bias" gave me the game faqs discussion, and a few posts above mine was a poster right here saying Eurogamer has been biased towards Sony for over a decade!...
I guess that means there are a total of 4 people now right?
Well, DF talked as if this was something novel and they were impressed. Your not. I'll go with DF on this one.

real good discussion going on in this thread
This thread is surreal.

I don't think enough people get this post.
It's really well done
They didn't pay DF shit, Richard would gladly verbally fellate Xbox at no cost.
Did I miss the /s?
I expect DF to be impartial, as usual, when actual games are out on scorpio.
So is the general consensus Scorpio will cost 499.99?
The "extensive customization" they described is just the command processor every modern GPU has. PS4 had two of them. This also marks the third time MS has claimed they're solving the draw call overhead problem on Xbox One or are we forgetting the revolutions the "mono driver" and DX12 SDK were supposed to bring?
It also follows the same script as the Xbox One hardware disclosures where they tried to create the impression that standard GPU component were some kind of "secret sauce". This would be OK if DF didn't fall into the same trap of blindly repeating everything they're told because they don't actually understand the tech well enough to challenge the Microsoft narrative and provide important context.
Long story short, Scorpio is an Xbox One Pro with Jaguar and Polaris level architectures that Microsoft is desperate to package as something more interesting because they managed expectations so poorly.
True, I doubt they will be offering bundles for it initially but we will see. I'm just not optimistic for the system at a 499 price tag.We don't have all the details yet though.
They could throw in an Elite controller.
They could even offer a couple of SKUs.
Look, it's clearly the most powerful console released to date and one would be an idiot to dispute that fact. Unfortunately, what we've seen following the pr coverage by df is a gross overestimation of the consoles capabilities. Leading up to the release of the PS4 pro, many were foolishly suggesting that it could get up to GTX 1070 levels and in this thread, we have people trying to compare an rx480 to a gtx 1080. There is a 4 teraflop difference between the cards, architectural difference aside so it's rather embarrassing. It also poor form from an "objective" tech site to encourage such misguided fantasies. Honestly, it's baffling. This concept of a console punching above it's weight is factually incorrect. A 6tf card can only reach 6tf. There is no physics defying magic going on here. The nice thing is we will know for sure before Scorpio goes on sale what is real and what is not. I'm optimistic based on DF, so I'll be riding the hype wave until it crashes back to reality.
Xbox deserves its moment in the sun IMO and there are way too many folks at the ready to downplay or divert from any "good" news.
I hope they have costumized Scorpio's GPU for Zero Down's engine so it runs at 4K 60fps like in your dreams 😂Seriously, LOL
It doesn't matter what is stronger at this point people. Just enjoy what you want to play on and let others have theirs. Scorpio will be a fucking beast. Don't feel too bad for us future Scorpio owners. We will be just fine.
I'm assuming that was Cerny?
Wait... people are mad that a high end gaming console exists ? and they're madder still that it's better than a PS4 pro ? despite having almost a year now knowing that it would be faster and better ?
I'm assuming that was Cerny?
The Xbox One didn't have that, but whether it did or not probably wouldn't deter Microsoft pitching it like it was new. After all, they lied about tech during the 360 era, they were misleading at Xbox One launch, and right now they refer to Scorpio's vapor cooling as "a first for home consoles" when it really isn't. I don't much trust their strict veracity (or your faith in it). For another possible example, try this quote:That sounds like a pretty nice change. The Xbox One almost certainly didn't already possess that, or else I don't see Microsoft talking like it's new.
Wow, going from hundreds of thousands of instructions to just 11! Amazing, right?Digital Foundry said:Processing draw calls - effectively telling the graphics hardware what to draw - is one of the most important tasks the CPU carries out. It can suck up a lot of processor resources, a pipeline that traditionally takes thousands - perhaps hundreds of thousands - of CPU instructions. With Scorpio's hardware offload, any draw call can be executed with just 11 instructions, and just nine for a state change.
True, I doubt they will be offering bundles for it initially but we will see. I'm just not optimistic for the system at a 499 price tag.
Probably? And for the first time this entire generation Xbox is going to consistently come on top with essentially every face off.
Given the reactions in this and other threads that's probably going to be very difficult for certain people to take
In other words, he is Microsoft's tool. Wow, going from hundreds of thousands of instructions to just 11! Amazing, right?
Except that's not what's being said. The total number of instructions for all draw calls is 4 to 6 figures, whereas 11 instructions is for a single draw call with the new GPU design. How many instructions does a single draw call take without the redesign? I don't know, but I bet it wouldn't sound nearly as impressive as that neat elision from 100 grand to double digits. (Though evidently even that gap wasn't astonishing enough for the marketing team, since they throw in state change needs for no apparent reason other than it's a single-digit number.)
Now this is not a quote of a Microsoft employee, but those numbers clearly come straight from them. Still, you may want to blame Mr. Leadbetter for the confusion (though from precedent I think Microsoft conveying the info to him with very careful wording, to maximize impact, is more likely).
Mono driver and DX12 SDK is software. The improvements made to the command processor is hardware. Completely different.
You seem to omit that DF was actually shown an example of the capabilities of the console in Forza 6 in 4K 60FPS. its not just words.
Keep fighting the good fight though.
Indeed. I'd like to believe it too but I've heard about the promises of DirecX before so I'll wait for the games before buying into this secret sauce/to the metal business again.I love my Pro, but the Scorpio sounds like much more has been done to it than just increased tflops.
I think it's time for the mods to shut this thread down. There's no real discussion but just a lot of salt and console-war banter.
I hope they have costumized Scorpio's GPU for Zero Down's engine so it runs at 4K 60fps like in your dreams
