But Sony is betting that checkerboard rendering (or similar techniques) can make that 40% difference, much less visible when actually playing from your couch
Again, disagree."Largely" - I didn't mean everything and everyone was spot on
And I'm pretty sure we've had months debate here on GAF even covering whether or not Scorpio would be able to pull off native 4K at 60fps at all, and it moved to whether there'd be any room for further enhancements - there was someone here literally last night still lolling at the prospect
Having read the impressions througout the day today, I don't think it's unfair to say people have been impressed with the apparent performance in the Forza demonstration, and indeed DF are too - if it exactly met your personal expectations, nice one
I didn't mean they would cut them a cheque, more like an exclusive to get them the hits etc. Nobody is losing it that DF is impressed. The Pro coverage didn't impress me, it's still running a Jaguar, like Scorpio. In effect, we got two nice mid-cycle bumps from Sony and Microsoft that are essentially crippled by a weak CPU.This wasnt sponsored. They would have to state it if it was. Its UK law.
Seriously this is getting sad. DF was impressed by what they saw and people are loosing it. Why am I still surprised.
I remember they were very impressed with the Pro as well.
Everyone's sight got worse after hours of smirking at their 32 inch tvs in order to read the text at 1080plol from your couch? does someone actually believe that you can't see a difference? sure, just go as far as possible from the screen?
Funny how everyone thought that you could easily spot the difference between 900p and 1080p on a 32 inch tv. lol
The people still complaining about Jaguar need to understand that the games are already limited by Xbox One/PS4 so the benefits of a new CPU would not be worth the added price & wasted space on the SoC when they can just offload more tasks to re-configurable logic.

I think the value proposition right now is...
Conspiracy!!!!!Man this Q4 is going to be very *interesting* when it comes to multi platforms games. PS4/One/Pro/Scorpio/PC/Switch
DF is going to have their work cut out.

It would make 1080p 60fps a pretty easy target to reach in most title.
Which was never what this system was for and MS have always been pretty clear about that, so I don't know why there was some sort of expectation on that front to begin with.
I tried the best I could to convey to you guys what was happening. Throughout it I was called several versions of a hater or a Sony fanboy (for some reason...), but honestly I just knew people were setting themselves up for disappointment, and I wanted to do something to at least try and prevent that.
Excuse me?It almost brought a tear to my eye reading that. The selflessness goes above and beyond, and should be recognized.
In all honesty though, why don't you and the not interested patrollers let them get on with it?
Excuse me?
Actually no, no at all. It seems like you are mad about something, and being rude, for absolutely no reason. My post wasn't clear enough?

Also, what post count?
I never said warn, just trying to manage expectations to avoid disappointment. Not mad, your post about trying to warn people made me chuckle.

It's a system for playing Xbox One games at 4K. It doesn't need to move past Jaguar to do it.

What's wrong with that?
OK.Nothing, It's commendable! The way you and a few others have had everyones backs in the build up threads. Now I see that you are continuing the work in this thread.
Ftfy. Sony 1st party will end the gen with best looking games. Like always, but thats another discussion and off topic.
My i7 + gtx 1070 PC can't do 4k60 at acceptable graphics (meaning anything above the low preset) on Gears of War 4. If the Scorpio can do that, then I'll most likely get it along with a 4k TV. I've wanted to fully make the move to native 4k in all games and even my expensive PC has issues doing it.
I guess we'll see once this thing is actually out, but considering it seems to hit 4k60 on Forza easier than my 1070 and with no specific optimization...
This is where console optimisation comes in I guess, because an i7 and a GTX 1070 on paper should be way more capable than Scorpio's Jaguar CPU and GPU but PC games (especially ports) don't always get that level of optimisation put into them because of all the different specs and configurations they have to work with.
I wouldn't worry about it. Your machine should comfortably outperform the Scorpio. My i7 + gtx 1070 PC can't do 4k60 at acceptable graphics (meaning anything above the low preset) on Gears of War 4. If you are a console gamer like me (even sitting on a 4K gaming laptop) then Scorpio is the place to be to play multi platform regardless if on a 1080p or 4K TV.Well no, PC is still the best place to play multi platform and MS games, and still the best place to play older games.
If you specifically want a "console" though, it will obviously be the best place for those things with that caveat.
In a thread one-time you said it wasn't a half arsed upgrade, but I took that as they went all out with Zen + Vega.I tried the best I could to convey to you guys what was happening. Well, that's kinda what I said. If you for one reason or another are set on playing in a console (which I mostly do), Scorpio will be your best bet, but objectively speaking a PC will have the better looking and better preforming versions of games. If you are a console gamer like me (even sitting on a 4K gaming laptop) then Scorpio is the place to be to play multi platform regardless if on a 1080p or 4K TV.

See exhibit, my avatar.
The Scorpio seems to be comfortably outperforming my PC in Forza, but yeah, I'll wait until the console is out to see whether the average game is 4k60 or not. If they're not 4k native, or they're not 60fps, then I'll probably pass.I wouldn't worry about it. Your machine should comfortably outperform the Scorpio.

That's all perfectly reasonable. I like to play on consoles mostly because they allow me to just kinda relax and go with whatever presentation the developer has set out for me. I just hit play and go, that's it. For my own time, I value that a lot, even over higher resolution and even FPS.I am a german. We germans love PCs as everybody knows here. I was into PC gaming at the time the first Doom popped up (that time I studied computer science). But after several years of upgrading hardware and software more or less very frequently I eventually sat down calculating all the money and hours I put into this.
I can tell you, it was a shock how much I wasted into this.
That day I made 2 decisions (about 20 years ago btw):
a) get rid of everything that looks like a Desktop PC and is upgradable which resulted into switching to the Apple ecosystem
and b) gaming only on console.
Never looked back and I have the feeling it saved me a ton of money in the long run.
Built-in downsampling, plus automatic optimization dev software for those clueless devs who wouldn't even use AA otherwise... hhhnnnnggg...
They will not be 60fps, and they will not be native 4K across the board. No question.
I never thought it'd be definitely Zen/Vega, just hoped it would be. Not really disappointed about it. To be blunt I didn't think to you, this scenario would be a fully fledged upgrade. It's not a half assed upgrade.
And I had also said "not Zen" and "a Pro + a year and more money" several times, so I don't know why you came to that conclusion based off what I said.
Haha nice one!I hoped for Zen and Vega too but was never sure about it, so I did not claim it is in there. I just kept that door open for me. Having a bet is risk and reward. There will be times you earn the reward instead of the risk!
I has some bets ongoing too but how MS ensure BC to the Xbox One with the absence of ESRAM. I was spot on and earned some gift cards I can now spend for games I will play on Scorpio end of the year!
Consoles optimise things by turning off several graphical effects in a more granular level.
Im sure your i7 + 1070 can do the same if not better 4k60 ports.
This whole Scorpio is a beast thing is getting out of hand

I felt quite hopeful with it being Zen/Vega, but I'm happy with what we've got. Mostly the forced 16xAF, which has been my number 1 gripe with console gaming.
