Can vanilla PS4 utilize this?
NO and neither can any of the xbox one family. They can all do FP16 but not dual.

The issues with comparisons right now is that there is no benchmark with double-rate FP16 units because Vega is not out yet (you will see plenty of them in May).
Right now the only benchmark for games is FarCry that shows a 20% increase in performance with FP16 at quality trade off: http://www.hwupgrade.it/articoli/skvideo/1013/radeon-x800-e-il-momento-di-r420_19.html
Now we need to see how FP16 running twice faster than FP32 can increase this performance gain and if the trade off in image quality compenses it uses.
Vega launch this year will show a lot of comparisions.
Yeah i'm sure a PC run better frame in 1080p med quality than 1080p high quality.
What we need to see? FP16 is worse than FP32 in quality just like med quality is worse than high quality, plain and simple.
Devs would only use FP16 where FP32 is not needed, as in it would not (too much or not at all) impact image quality
But we don't know if the fp16 code for the cb resolve came from Sony. I find it likely because if they were trying to optimize for fp16 why would they would start it to a code they didn't code themselves, and perhaps the artifacts we are seeing are a result of fp16 being used across the board. No, that had nothing to do with FP16. They look like normal CBR reprojection artifacts.
But that Far Cry improvement is due the bandwidth savings, there's no packing for double rate math on the hardware tested there. The issues with comparisons right now is that there is no benchmark with double-rate FP16 units because Vega is not out yet (you will see plenty of them in May).

NV30 and NV40 can runs 2x FP16 instructions at the speed of 1x FP32 instruction because FP16 require one clock cycle while FP32 require two clock cycle. But that Far Cry improvement is due the bandwidth savings, there's no packing for double rate math on the hardware tested there.
There is no way I can prove that your imagined string of events didn't actually occur. All I can say is that CBR has a tendency to create artifacts regardless of FP16 use, that Mass Effect uses CBR, and that it has artifacts that look typical. Parsimony leads us to an obvious cause-effect relationship. Any other theory you want to propose requires extraordinary evidence, I think. But we don't know if the fp16 code for the cb resolve came from Sony. There's a dedicated thread.NV30 and NV40 can runs 2x FP16 instructions at the speed of 1x FP32 instruction because FP16 require one clock cycle while FP32 require two clock cycle.
It even didn't had the limitation to be packed two FP16 instruction of the same type of the double rate math in Vega.
The bench is exactly showing a case of FP16 running faster than FP32 and that give a overall 20% increase in framerates for this game.
All the best, hope you pull through quickly.you know i was just thinking.
metaphorically i am in a dark place right now, hopefully soon i'll see the light. but anyways, if scorpio is revealed to be 400, i will buy it.
and i was just thinking that it's really just to have the best console and a 4K blu ray player; right now i don't care about most xbox games BUT, it'll give me the opportunity to play the mass effect games again through BC.
which is awesome.
Hey guys and your FP16 talk. Do you want to derail all Xbox Scorpio threads with this?
interdasting
That's odd. I remember the DF reveal video mentioning specific CPU customizations targeted at audio processing.
That would be nice. I have the chat pad plugged into my Elite, so I use the X1 and X2 buttons. Would be better to just have them built into the controller though.
If you need this, you can get it today:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/communications/chatpad
it has 2x buttons that you can configure yourself
It is odd that you remember that. They specifically said it was the same audio parts as the XB1 hence Dolby Atmos was coming to the XB1 also.
Yeah I'm getting it for similar reasons, to upgrade the living room to 4K/UHD and for how I assume it will run old XB1 titles, 360BC, multiplats and for the Play Anywhere support.you know i was just thinking.

It's likely as Vega catches up with the rest of the worldAnd such cases to use it is very limited

The new x86 cores in Scorpio are 31 per cent faster than Xbox One's, with extensive customisation to reduce latency in order to keep the processor occupied more fully, while CPU/GPU coherency also gets a performance uplift. There's significant hardware offloading too - some of which is inherited from Xbox One, some of which is radically new. The audio processor in Xbox One is fully transplanted across to Scorpio and gains new functionality - spatial surround, effectively adding a 'height' component to the existing 7.1 set-up. Scorpio is set to receive support for Dolby Atmos for gaming, Dolby Atmos for headphones plus a Microsoft proprietary format called HRTF, developed by the Hololens team. Because the APB (audio processor block) hardware is basically identical to that found in Xbox One, it means that all existing iterations of the console will get the spatial surround upgrade.
It is odd that you remember that. They specifically said it was the same audio parts as the XB1 hence Dolby Atmos was coming to the XB1 also.
There are 2 variants of one of the boards (that also contain the Wifi)
The Xbox One S uses the standard version and there was a second "Premium" version that had additional Audio IC's in it.
That is clearly for Scorpio, or Xbox One Premium
I've always wondered what that is for, but it sits at odds with what DF have said
It's all about reduced accuracy and quality, notice how they are 30% more efficient and ruining threads than normal
That is a big win for MS if true.
334 quid! god i'd love this to be true haha

It pretty much needs to be around that mark. PS4 Pro will almost undoubtedly be cheaper by the time Scorpio hits. For them to cost much more would be a completely stupid move after what happened at the beginning of this generation, regardless of what's inside it.
That would be amazing if true. Holy crap would that fly off the shelves.
A year had passed since the ps4 pro releasedPs4 pro is 399 why would a newer a much more powerful console be the same price. Thing is gonna be 499 without a doubt.
It would but come on really? Lol
A year had passed since the ps4 pro released
Got to be a placeholder, surely? Is that a large Spanish retailer?
I agree that it'll probably be 499, but the pro will get at least a 50 price drop this holiday I bet.Understandable but i will bet this thing launches at 499. In all honesty 499 isnt a bad price for what you get.
Trust me I'm not holding my breath and I fully expect 499, but I do find it odd that they are waiting for E3 to announce the price. That gives me hope for a miracle.
you know i was just thinking.

Don't do this to me.Then why is the price no longer there?
