Not on PS5, but I did notice a couple of times where the reset boundary felt too close to the track.

I've been loving the game so far (minus the Pathfinder / Sprint events)A lot of DriveClub DNA in the look and feel, especially in the race I had last night. Did the race w/o the HUD and I thought it looked amazing on my TV. This is only a 1080p (60fps) upload from Share Factory, but it's from PS5 using 'Image Quality' mode.
This game also does real-time time of day, lighting, weather, right? I think that adds a lot to the look of a game. Driveclub still looks good because of it, and I don’t think I’ve really seen it done anywhere else.

Yep. This definitely happened to me. I can't remember the track though.
Crashed again yesterday on completion of a race. It didn't wipe my career progress this time though.
I finished Astrobot and have played a lot of Bugsnax & Pinball FX3 with no crashes, so I'm fairly confident its the game and not a console fault (hope so anyway).

Yep! It’s based off the OnRush engine which was based upon the DriveClub engine. Oh wow, could you imagine DriveClub at 4K 60!!!!!

And I'm sorry, but this looks brutal. The car is almost floating above the terrain. The ground texture is straight outta ps3. The cars don't even leave skidmarks on the road ffs. Now, there is the rare moment when everything comes together and it can look kinda decent, stuff like the weather transitions are neat.
But overall you're going to get a very bland looking game, with nonsense like no working mirrors or other shit along those lines.

This one shows off some weather change and the sounds are really great. You can hear the rain coming down harder as the race goes on.

I think Driveclub engine is owned by Sony. I think I've read something along those lines time ago.
I hardly doubt this is the same engine, mostly because track design and general gameplay is different. But yeah, some Evolution devs are there for sure.

It's a bit similar to the situation that happened when Activision bought Bizarre Creations: the PGR4 engine remained to Microsoft, but you can see similarities with Blur (published under Activision, before the devs went belly up).
Even if the engine stays (...unused...) to Sony, much of the know-how went to Codemasters. We could consider the Dirt 5 engine as a spiritual-successor to the Driveclub one.

If there's any devs or anyone from Codemasters reading, on my second play through (thanks to crash wiping my save), this issue happened to me the next time through at the same place it happened last time. It always happens in campaign, mid way through the blue section (velocity), on the top event of the vertical set. The event is "Stampede Sunstone Valley", Arizona on Fire, Pre-Runners, Sandstone Valley Arizona. The hard right hander hairpin, 7 corners (including chicane wiggles) from the end of the lap.

I played Driveclub a lot. And I mean a lot.
This games look and feel, down to lighting, textures, assets and even car handling and physics is almost 1 to 1.
If you put the game into 1080p and lock to 30fps just as a test on PC it looks and feels almost identical.

Both really. It's fully dynamic so when it gets it right it gets it absolutely right, but it can also look very flat and bland in certain settings and certain tracks.

I haven't been on today, but I THINK that's exactly the same track/event and place as me. IIRC, uphill to the right then downhill to the left and just as you expect to turn right again (before a small hill) BAM. Reset. Just off-centre left of the track. Happens in on off events outside the Career too it seems.
Edit Seems to be here, about 1:12 that it happens to me on this track/event. Sorry, no idea how to timestamp on mobile

I've had this game crash me out to the dash 5-6 times now. It hasn't wiped my progress again thankfully though.
Good thing I'm not waiting through loading screens any more.

I'd beat the second last race in chapter 5. Just went back to grind out the few medals I needed to get to 121 to unlock the final races.
And, it crashed. This time it wiped everything on the save.
So disappointing. When this game is hot, it's damn hot. So much fun.
To get fkd over like this sucks. smh. What a shame.
I'd actually given up on codemasters racers after they abandoned the Pro Race Driver/V8 Supercars series, and watered down the F1 games. After so long, I'd let my guard down. This looked good, and seemed like a good game to pick up with my new console. Oh well, lesson re-learned. No more codemasters games for me.
It annoys me somewhat that more people that don't even play this game are fighting over framerates and resolutions (don't know how many pages the tech console warrior D5 thread is), when the game is broken and buggy mess in the first place. It has to actually work first before splitting hairs on the tech.

Amazing. I came here to post about the crashes. I haven't lost any data but it has become pretty frequent lately, ever since the last patch. I also came herr to generally complain as well.
The core gsmeplay is there, as you said when everything comes together it nails it. Unfortunately as time has gone on I'm realizing those times when it does come together are getting fewer and fewer. It's the general tech, shit's a mess. Bugs and crashes. The driving model is pretty good. I preferred the more weighty feel to Dirt 3 (which this most closely resembles) but it works well enough. The racing is fast and exciting and the different events are good for the most part. Minus sprint.
The other issue I have is gymkhana. Gymkhana got hated on and I never understood why, I think it's a great switchup in tone from all the usual racing you're doing. I was amped to hear Dirt 5 brought Gymkhana back. Except....it's shit. The Gymkhana events in Dirt 3 are so well thought out, meanwhile 5 has these little areas with the most boring uninspired tracks. These barren areas all mean shit all once you realize you can go into the purple donut zone and just literally do donuts for the whole event and win. Even when it penalizes you for being stale constantly staying in 2x means you're getting at least 1000 points. Ridiculous.
I've already gave my opinion on how it looks and damn, it looks pretty crappy most of the time.
In the end I get the feeling that it was done on a shoestring budget or something. It has this flea market quality to it, with hints of top quality there. Let's hope Take Two purchasing Codemastsrs means they'll get some more financial backing cause so much of this game's issues seem like they could be fixed with a bigger budget.

I bought the game yesterday and played for like an hour and a half. I'm enjoying the driving model, it's very easy and satisfying to slide around and own fools on the track.
Graphically it's all over the place, mostly due to dynamic nature of the title. It can look very good at times but anyone who claims that this looks better than FH4 is a loon.
I'm playing on PC. 4k max settings and very nice 60-80 FPS, depending on the weather conditions.

Glad you’re enjoying it and not running into issues.
Call me a loon, because I think Dirt 5 has better IQ, lighting, and atmospheric effects that contribute to it looking superior overall. And I love me some FH4.

After it happening to me like three times in a row I managed to claw my way up the standings back into third but I just couldn't catch them. Thankfully there was some jank to the rescue. Rolling into that corner I watch the two racers in front of me disappear and spawn back on the track. Ridiculous.
Also, has anyone else seen this?

Yeah I've heard of covid. It's not as if im spazzing out about this, it is what it is. I'm just bummed out the game is such a shitshow. Bizarre graphical anomalies, crashes (including complete loss of data apparently) glitchy jank like the twilight zone corner. I just figured this was the spot to discuss these issues, not sure if anyone had experienced that weird yellow lighting nonsense.

See, I would disagree. Yes, thanks to lighting and atmospheric effects Dirt 5 can at times look better than FH4. But these moments are too rare to say that it's superior looking. FH4 is just more consistent and manages impresses around every corner.
I just had this crazy race in Tijuca Forest, Brazil. It's a beautiful muddy track. On lap 2 it started to rain and track turned into a muddy river. Then weather cleared out and I could see rainbow in the distance. Good stuff.
Yeah, like for example, why there's no reply functionality at all? Am I missing something? I want to see my reply and save it so I can take some screenshots in the future.

Had the same, same track. I had it down as a bad representation of "Dawn" as I just glimpsed at it and thought maybe it was the morning sun shining through (badly)

Picked up the PS4 version for my free upgrade
Resolution mode is awful juddery in places even when I am the only car on the track. 120hz mode looks pump. Prioritise visuals looks and runs the nicest for me so that's what I have plumped for.
It's not amazing so far but it's good fun, which is what I expected.

Omg. It happened to me. What in the ever loving fuck is this. I had just finished the second to last race before the final event. Literally the final event. It finishes the event, goes to the screen where it shows the standings or whatever, hit X and it crashes (for the hundredth time).
I load the game up and in the top right corner it says something like "restored save data due to corruption" or some shit like that. Go to my career and...I'm all the way back at the second fuckin tier. Unbelievable.
Fuck this game. I have been a die hard fan of the Dirt series since the beginning. This game is a pile of shit, I can't even sit here and be all civil about it and say "well when it's good it's good". All that doesn't even matter anymore. Fuck this game.

I've never requested a refund for a psn game before. How does it work? Will it work? I've had nonstop issues with this thing since basically day one, and now becsuee it's constantly crashing it just goes and deletes saves? Surely this product would be deemed defective by this point wouldnt it?

That’s sucks. As a consolation there isn’t much to beating a racing game. Hopefully you had fun playing it.
I just started up Driveclub, and while a decent game given its age, it is a good reference point at how good the gameplay in Dirt 5 is.

The developers should really feel ashamed for releasing it in this state. It’s apparent COVID forcing people to work from home had a negative impact on game development. Pushing the release date back to fix the kinks would have been the proper course of action.
It’s possible the developers urged to bake it in the oven some more but it fell on the publishers deaf ears.

Go to the "refund chatbot" link. It'll ask a bunch of questions, on the question where it asks "have you downloaded the game" dont answer yes, it'll end the chat with a "woops this is awkward, nothing can be done". Answer no, it'll bring up unique case numher and then the phone number or live chat option.
I chose the live chat, the guy in the live chat did say he is making a "one time exception due to the game being purchased 14 days ago" but fuck it, I got my money back.
