2 Disney shares for every Pixar share.

Steve Jobs = crazy richer, sits on disney board of directors. Pixar's boss' take over disney's animation division. Here's hoping someone decides to revive traditional animation over there...

I like the promotion of John to Chief Creative Officer.

The deal makes sense. It's sad that Pixar has lost its independence, but Disney is a great match. I was never able to fathom Pixar films being released by another studio.

Important quote:
Disney will also have increased ability to fully capitalize on Pixar-created characters and franchises on high-growth digital platforms such as video games, broadband and wireless, as well as traditional media outlets, including theme parks, consumer products and live stage plays.

Also, I wonder what this means for Toy Story 3.

It's interesting. But I think now that Disney has the Pixar resources and talent at hand, who reportedly have wanted to do Toy Story 3 (on their own terms), Disney will see the value in taking the time to develop a quality theatrical release and end the series right.

I would be shocked if they went ahead with their current development of the movie without handing it back over to Lasseter and Pixar. Shocked and disappointed. Disney's version was not far along.

Other interesting question. What does this mean for Circle 7 Animation , the studio Disney started which was working on Toy Story 3.

Wow, this is pretty good news. I support this because John Lasseter seems to be moving up into an even more prominent role, which is good for him.

I'm also interested in seeing how Steve Jobs is going to be working this.

You're going to see Disney and Apple become very tight. Particularly as Disney searches for ways to distribute digital content and integration continues its long march forward.

They'll just move them to another project. I just read yesterday that most all studios are cutting down their film releases by quite a bit over the next year or two and in Disney's case they were going to focus more on animation. No reason for them to call anything off (well except perhaps TS3 until Pixar can get to it).

John Lassetter has said that he wanted Pixar to move into a more adult world of animation, but I wonder what will happen now?

:D

I'm so excited to have John overseeing all of WDFA projects. Pixar was in essence what Disney used to be. Now Disney will learn from Pixar how to be Disney again.

:D :D :D

I'll also be REALLY FUCKING EXCITED if Lasseter actually does reopen the Burbank studio and returns it to 2D animating. MY DAY HAS COME! Traditional animation will return to greatness and it will be at the hands of Pixar. YAY!

Ech.

Disney + ABC + Touchstone + + ESPN + Buena Vista + Pixar + Apple + Miramax are now one big happy unrelated family.

Mickey Mouse iPods?

Thats so Raven iTunes skins?

Edit: Lets go ahead and add Square-enix into the unrelated family!

Remember how MS showed Fox Sports as part of the Vista presentation? I guess Apple will be using ESPN since theyre such close friends.....which means EA should be added to the extended unrelated family.

I don't know why people are seeing this merger in that light. I'm seeing great things from this due to the fact John Lasseter and other high up Pixar staff will now have their hands dipped into any and all Disney animated productions in the future.

Wait, what? Explain yourself!

Pixar better assume creative control over Toy Story 3 - that thing was turning into a trainwreck in Disney's hand.

Of course I've heard about him wearing the same clothes. That's why I made the post. Didn't he buy all those sweaters years ago? Perhaps it's time for a new set.

That's actually kinda cool. Like a cartoon character he is.

The Burbank studio is still open, it's just producing and developing 3D content. If any future 2D project were to come up, i'm pretty sure they'd be handled by the fine folks in Burbank, seeing that there is an overabundance of unemployed traditional animators down here. The people that should be worried are the ones at Circle 7, and 3D artist/animators working at WDFA.

So does this mean we will see Pixar characters in Kingdom Hearts 3?

Of course. And the main character will use an iPod to travel around, like the chick in Trace Memory using a DS.

Not only that, but ESPN Madden 2007 will have Cars characters appear during the half-time show sponsored by Apple.

I thought he had a set of 8 sweaters and jeans that he rotated. I'm not sure what his replacement schedule woule be. Or maybe it was 7, after all it is the most powerful magical number.

Was that sarcasm? I really can't tell... why don't you try tagging your post next time. Makes it easier for the rest of us to detect sarcasm.

Or like Abigail Whistler in Blade: Trinity! Deaf Martial Arts FTW!

I'm sure. They're so frequently demanded and probably the highest-profile Disney IPs that haven't been featured in the series yet.

Primetime Incredibles series please! :)

The joke here is that it seems as though Pixar bought Disney
I was thinking that today. Like nine people have called me throughout the day, "OH MY GOD did you hear Disney bought Pixar it's on the news right now!" I'm like, "I knew about this three or four days ago. :lol " So while I'm talking to them all and explaining why it isn't a bad thing, it's like, yeah, Disney bought Pixar...but now Pixar is gonna kinda crontrol Disney. :D

AP updated saying officially Toy Story 3 was scrapped, and wouldn't head forward unless the Toy Story crew decided to go ahead with a third one.

Haha it begins. Seems like PIXAR owns Disney and not the other way around.

Best news I"ve heard since I heard Darkwing Duck and Tick were coming to DVD this year.

Hu-friggin-ZZAH.

I hope that with fucking tools Eisner and Stanton gone, and Iger so eager to fix Disney, and Lasseter in charge of all the animation projects... I really hope that The Search For Mickey Mouse gets put back into production as their 100th movie.

Yeah, especially remembering how Apple bought NeXT, it didn't take long for Jobs to kick the then-CEO Amelio out and take over Apple again. The media seems to think that the same could potentially happen to Iger if he's not careful.
