? What's the story on that movie?
Mickey Mouse is kidnapped and Minnie, Donald, and Goofy go on a search to find him, teaming up with various other famous Disney Characters (Peter Pan was one of them) along the way -- kinda like Rodger Rabbit only completely animated and only Disney toons. Every Disney character ever was meant to cameo in it, and it was going to be their 100 Feature Films celebration movie. (Whoever said Kingdom Hearts: The Movie was pretty spot-on)

However, fucking idiots that they were, Andrew Stanton and Mike Eisner scrapped the project, first making it a DTV movie, then canning it all together. Their reason was, seriously, that "There is no market for a Mickey Mouse feature film."

I'll try to find a plot summary and exact quotes.

That sounds like it would be a fun ride. Give it high quality 2D animation, some great writers and voice talent and you have yourself a hit. Make it happen Lasseter!

Seems I got the cast a little mixed up. How they could make this movie without Donald and Goofy helping find him is beyond me...

Set to be the fiftieth Animated Feature Film from Disney Animation. At least one character from every film is supposed to make an appearance in this film.
Read more here.
Also, only the fiftieth? I thought they were way past 50 Feature Films?

Also, his quote about there not being a market for a Mickey Mouse film was in refrence to Mickey's Three Muskateers movie that came out a few years ago. So TSFMM might still be in production!

Disney CEO Michael Eisner doesn't believe "there is a large enough audience for Mickey to be in the theaters"
Such a fucking idiot.

Such a fucking idiot.

Michael Eisner is a fucking tool.

I hope this buyout means a second rebirth of Disney goodness.

I think you mean David Stainton... and I think there were also serious issues in completing a plausible and emotionally invested script that would allow for all those cameos without being tedious.

I actually meant Bob Iger, who said it was "Too large a financial risk because it wasn't computer animated." But if I'd been thinking of the right person, yes, it would have been David Stainton. Thanks. :D

And who says the cameos need to be important? It could be so much as they're walking around the Disney backlot and there are characters reading scripts and walking around in the background. Think of Rodger Rabbit. Think of ALL THOSE characters, not just Disney, but Warner Brothers. Hardly 20% of them even had lines, they were just there. Most of the cameos could even come at the end of the movie. "We found Mickey! Here's the closing scene that has one character from each of our feature films celebrating!"

All I'm saying is that the reading I've done on the proposed project included word that there were serious issues in writing a workable script. I suspect, as you seem to, that they were getting too wrapped up in the gimmick portion of the idea. First thing you need is quality plot about rescuing Mickey. If other Disney characters can be worked in appropriately, that's just gravy.

I would certainly love to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto get some high quality time in the spotlight though, and not where they're just inserted into classic pieces of literature.
