Nerf to DD is considerable. I don't know what difficulty mode that is on but there is no way something like that should be possible on DMD/GMD modes.

Hardcore mode doesn't get rid of color enemies completely? I know you can use all weapons now but it doesn't have hitsun. I'm just curious if hardcore mode let's all weapons have hit stun on them

You don't have hit stun against off color enemies no matter what mode you use.

I really enjoyed DmC when it first launched, but ended up selling it. Now, I'm tempted to pick this Definitive Edition up for a week via rental or something, so as to play through it again.

The changes sound like good ones, and it'd be a fun game to revisit.

I probably won't have time until next month, though.
 
Eh, someone should make a review thread to put all these reviews in. I think that's the proper protocol for this, they probably don't want OTs cluttered with people just posting reviews.

Also helps spreading awareness of the game.

I got the game yesterday, played through it one sitting and....yeah. It's great.

Bad:
I kinda wanted a bit more out if the combat. If you've seen the combos from the previous version you'll be getting the same here. Same move set :(

Kind if annoyed by colour enemies. Since they don't have hitstun, you can't juggle them. The game goes back to it's older versions' slow pace since you resort to using red weapons on all colour enemies just to get them out the way. I thought we were going to have the ability to combo them(you were so close).

Kablooey is still just as uninteresting as before

Good:
Love lock-on
Love the change to stinger
The game looks incredible in 1080p with a consistent 60FPS
Turbo mode is the best new addition
Love the added difficulty challenges
Hardcore mode makes for a more frantic and creative way of dealing with enemies
Like the new skins
Trickster dash is hype!
All the Vergil changes and additions are much welcome!

I was a strong opponent of DmC since its announcement. When it finally came out, I thought it looked like a good game, but a poor DMC game. I refused to buy or play it in principle. I didn't want to send a message to Capcom that I was okay with this being the new direction for Devil May Cry.

However, I am totally on-board for buying the Definitive Edition. It shows they actually DO listen to fans, and this version looks like they put in a lot of work to satisfy fans of the old DMC games. Manual lock-on? Helllll yeah.

I know a lot of people have probably backed off on this term, but it really does feel like, "Apology Edition," and I actually like that.

So I will proudly purchase DMC:DE and DMC4:SE and look forward to what will be happening to the series in the future.

...it still disappoints me that the press can't drop the "Dante didn't have white hair" thing, focusing on "HEY, THERE'S A DMC1 COSTUME NOW!" Are there any media outlets that actually touch upon the actual changes of substance to the game? I really wanna get a look at that Capcom changelog.
 
So does this DD version make this game on par with 3 and 4?

i guess it's not out yet so I'll have to wait. Duh.
 
I see that is says it changed some stuff to the final boss, what are those changes? Does it not interrupt you constantly with a cutscene anymore?
 
You can skip all cutscenes, right?

Might double dip, changes look fantastic, but i really don't care about the story. Dante's Anyway.
 
As someone who didn't really get into Devil May Cry games when I was younger I have just recently completed Bayonetta 1 and 2, the gameplay is the same right? How does it stack up if someone doesn't mind answering, I was looking to nab this after work. Also, if this has been answered before then I'll take a link to that :) Thanks!

Well, they're the same genre, but they don't really play the same. DMC games have much less emphasis on spectacle than Bayonetta, and Bayonetta is a lot more streamlined than the DMC games in many ways - although the same is true of DmC.

I think the original DmC wasn't comparable to either Bayonetta at all, but it seems like the update should do a lot for it.

It's WAY better than God of War. But yeah it's the same type of game.

Remember to activate turbo mode and hardcore mode right away on first playthrough (they are modifiers, don't be scared by the name, it just makes the game more enjoyable).

Yes, DmC is a top tier action game. And will probably be the best action game there is until Bayonetta 3 (which won't happen) comes out, or until Devil May Cry 5.

If you have access to a PS3/360 then I would suggest you start the series off on a high note with the original series and then play the reboot.

DMC3 in particular is simply amazing and DMC4 probably has the deepest combat system ever.

I'd strongly suggest getting into the original series, personally. The HD Collection is super cheap right now and a perfect entrypoint. DMC3, in particular, holds up to the combat giants of today and has a good story. It recently was in the top 25 games of that entire generation.

I think that Capcom taught them a lot about combat design, and they've cultivated themselves to be one of the better Western combat developers as a result. I keep an eye on their projects, just like I do all action titles, but I've yet to find any of them to be interesting yet.

Definitely, I feel like they learned a shit ton from this and will probably make their games much more playable than previous titles.

I think this entire DmC project coupled with their work on Heavenly Sword has definitely given them enough experience under the belt. They already had an appealing and distinct style in the realms of graphics, art direction, and character creation.

What I've seen of Hellblade really excites me; the combat is far more intimate and seems to combine quick combo-centric action with more strategic elements of traditional fighting games like Tekken or SF.

It's very interesting to watch a developer improve and change their reputation. Especially a larger independent studio, which are very rare nowadays. I really respect that they've managed to take criticism and cater to hardcore gamers without ever losing their integrity. Instead, they've gotten closer to what they really want to be and kept their distinctive identity..
