DmC Review Thread (Release Date - 1/15/13) Embargo is over!

Has anyone said anything at all about the Vergil DLC in regards to the PC version?

Or is it just assumed that PC people have to shell out the money down the line no matter what?

Shrugs. Steam currently lists a costume pack as the pre-order bonus in the US. They are still running the DMC3-DmC for $60 deal. For the US seems it is staying down to Gamestop/EB.

Wow, looks it got restricted to rewards members.

I really hope reviewers don't start praising DmC for stuff the orignal DMC did. I better not see stuff like OMG this new DmC has secret missions and you can grapple to platform.

I think it's just an issue with the video. There's no way the lip synching is THAT far off. That looks bad even by video game standards.

I really don't understand this. The one thing that they're really known for is their storytelling and facial expressions. How did it go so wrong with this game when it's likely the title where they had the largest budget?
Seems it might just be an issue with the sound-syncing of the YT video.

The shitty writing, however, is definitely not the video's fault.

Ninja Theory's a mess, and they're developing a game outside of their comfort zone.

I doubt they went this far

with facial expression in DmC but I might be wrong. I even felt Enslaved was a step back in that department.

OXM UK is saying they haven't put out the review yet on NT's Twitter.

I guess there is some confusion on reviews because they all sound the same in their name.

So where did people get the notion that it got 9/10 from there?

NT sent out a text asking @NinjaTheory: Anyone seen the official Xbox magazine (UK) review of #DmC? Would love to know the score.

https://twitter.com/ninjatheory/status/287481402688159744

Lots of people replied saying 9/10. This is probably where the confusion came from.

Bliemy there is some serious hate out for this game and NT. Maybe wait to play the game before decrying it some much?

People are just dissapointed. Personally, I (and the others too, I assume) know very well that the game is not going to be any better than previous DMC's, 2 excluded. Fans waited for a long time for the next entry, and got a game that takes two steps backwards in terms of gameplay.

I'm not talking about graphics, aesthetics, plot, dialogue, characters or white hair here. Just gameplay features.

I guess I'm coming from the point of view of a NT lover and someone who has only dabbled with a couple on entries in the series. It just always confuses me why NT have had a ton of shit thrown at them over the last 3-4 years.

Nah. It is more fun to just sport a White Heared God (Dante) avatar and just quote fuck you over and over again, or mention NT, or Tameem, or other stuff.

It does not matter what gameplay video comes, what new info, positive impression or stuff is revealed, a "fuck you - my name is dante" is enough to start a day. Coffee, hard boiled eggs, "fuck you" - that is how we rock pre-DmC :P

Edit: Do not mind me too much, folks. It is just becoming increasingly hard to filter all the radio noise that adds nothing to any conversation, but simply mentiones the same quote over and over and over and over and over and ..... *repeat to infinity*. OT cant come quickly enough.. :P

You really think the OT will be any different? It'll be the same shit all over again. The only difference being that after 20k post (if it even reaches that) it'll be sent to the community section.

Man... I hate myself for this but regardless of how much of a shitstorm this game is turning out to be I'm still looking forward to it. The bayo/ng/dmc genre on pc is drier than the Gobi Desert.

I have nothing against NT. I liked Heavenly Sword very much, but for very different reasons than I like DMC series. They just aren't the best fit for this job (making new DMC). No western company is, for that matter. I don't hold them responsible for accepting the offer (they just want to stay afloat). It's Capcom's fault for giving this franchise to them and pursuing a "reboot".

Anyone complaining about the "Fuck You" exchange would do well to stay away from the last two hours of Spec Ops: The Line.

I haven't finished that game yet but I'll take a million billion fucks you in there and it will still be a far far far better written game than anything Ninja Theory will ever do.

Impressive, even if it is a rehash of the Joseph Conrad story we've seen/read before.

edit: and also for a game that got so much shit for it's immature dialogue, Bulletstorm had some pretty damn entertaining characters/exchanges.

I am still a bit baffled that so many people cant realize the hilariousness of that "fuck you - fuck you - fuck you" exchange.

It is definitely intentional, and it is hilarious as hell. It just demonstrates that the idea of a huge, deformed old demon starting a casual conversation with Dante about stuff like how tough we are and how one is better than the other. I will eat my hat if we seriously think that the writers could not do anything there and just came up with fuck you to have some filler there. I will buy hats and eat them if that turns out to be the case.

Yeah I don't mind that exchange really. But I still think Ninja Theory has shit writers for a studio that gets praised for it's "Storytelling". Same with David Cage's studio.

When considering that Captain Walker and Conrad didn't just go "FUCK YOU. NO, FUCK YOUUUUU" for 10 seconds, I... I don't get this.

No, it was more like Captain Walker shouting "FUCK YOU" at the Damned 33rd every... well, every time he reloaded, which for me literally was every 10 seconds, lol. Not that I had a problem with Nolan North cussing like a sailor; Walker's transformation through the course of the game was brilliantly executed. I just find it funny how one exchange in DmC can cause so much furore and become an internet meme, yet no one bats an eyelid at the never-ceasing fuck yous in Spec Ops.

It's like Arnold says anyway, that exchange was there I felt to highlight the absurdity of a thousand year old demon and a demon hunter hurling juvenile obscenities at each other. Comedic effect in other words. I found it funny anyway.

The cursing itself isn't the problem, but the context it is used in. I haven't played Spec Ops, only read about the game, but the heavy and gloomy atmosphere, and what really happens in the game, somehow justifies the cursing in Spec Ops. In DmC, on the other hand, cursing is used to show how cool Dante is; how nonchalance and anarchic he is. And it's not just the "Fuck you!" exchange, looking at various trailers and cut-scenes from previews you can notice that Dante curses a lot in this game. However, that only makes him look immature.

In my personal view, and from what footage I've seen so far, the only time swearing has been used to show how cool Dante is is the scene where he writes Fuck You on the clipboard when entering the nightclub. That admittedly fell a little flat. I've already explained my thoughts on the secret ingredient boss dialogue, and otherwise I think the cursing is used for comedic effect and a means of illustrating that Dante's a bit of a punk who needs to get his priorities straight and do some growing up; which appears to be his whole character arc in the story. That's how I interpret it anyway.

It's not even slightly funny. If you think it's hilarious, you have terribly low standards for comedy.
