DmC Review Thread (Release Date - 1/15/13) Embargo is over!

It doesn't look like it's been posted yet, but the Bloody Palace is BACK! And as free DLC, too. I, for one, am surprised that they won't be nickle-and-diming for it.

It's few pages back.

So I read the Game Informer review which is surprisingly tiny going by the two pages.

Apparently only the final boss
(which we know to be Vergil)
is the only good boss fight in the game. Though I'm sure we knew this already. They too regard the rest of the bosses as a bit wank due to some of them requiring platforming to beat rather than outright skills.

They also say that the final few missions gives the game a 'running on fumes' feeling as they do not surpass the high bar set by the earlier missions. As if the whole shapeshifting world gets a bit tedious towards the end.

A bit disappointing as I was hoping NT would save something special for the final missions.

Review reads a bit poorly though. They basically love the combat, find Limbo and the ideas behind it breathtaking but otherwise a poor end game, shit DT (which is well known already) and shit bosses are their low points. Nowt much else in the way of new info.

Your highlights make it sound like a 6/10 review, and yet they gave it a 9.

Nothing good to say?

Not really outside of liking the story, characters, voice-acting, combat being accessible, Limbo being - in their words - 'breathtaking' and there being enough stuff to do in the game.

Another negative thing they said as well is that enemy combinations can get shitty towards the end.

Certain enemy combinations + lack of lock-on = salt

Especially on SoS and DMD mode.

There's a couple pictures from the Mundus boss fight on the japanese website if anyone wants to see them.

They made a boo-boo the moment they made us fight enemies who are color-coded based on what weapon you can only hit them with. That's fucking amateur hour right there. They're more frequent in the higher difficulties so it's gonna be wank as fuck.

Yeah, suffice to say he looks uh...interesting.

My theory:

In the music video that has new DmC footage, you see a ginormous statue-esque demon who I think is Mundus's first form before turning in to that weird looking machine thing as seen in the mentioned screenshots.

*Wakes up and sees no DmC OT*

WHERE THE GOD DAMN OT???
Just breathe, Dahbomb.

I wouldn't mind the color coded enemies as much if I could lock-on. It's the combination of those two aspects that really bothers me.

2 unlockable costumes

I dig the first one. It's obviously a nod to The Crow, but it looks pretty cool on its own. Plus its got a long cloth, which you can see on his right hip -- and the chuck taylors are a nice touch.

EDIT: Actually, I might have spoken too soon. They might be unlocks.

They're listed as DLC on the website. Not sure why anyone would pay for those.

I don't like the colors and his boots, and the hair color.

I might like it if it's actually like the crow costume. Maybe modders will fix it.

I'm looking forward to costume mods on the PC. If its anything like the PC releases of Capcom fighters, it could be quite entertaining.

It seems the critics are fine with the dumbed down gameplay since NT have done a fine job in all other areas. I look forward to seeing the story cutscenes online, may not be my cup of tea but I'm sure I can get some enjoyment from the ending which is about the only thing I am curious about.

Well they've always had good DT designs. Clown Trigger, as it used to be known as, ended up growing on me a lot.

Dreadnaught remains Best DT.

Ugh, yeah even now I think DMC3 Dante and Vergil DT's are garbage.

I loved ALl the others though, my favorite probably being the Concept DMC4 Dante, with DMC4 Dante being a close number 2.

I liked shirtless Dante. D:

To be fair, this Dante had an up hill climb for me because of how WTFamazing DMC2 Dante is when it comes to design. That and given my hatred of DMC3 DT this Dante just never stood a chance in my eyes.

The retail versions in press mailings have started to arrive with Virility and Raptor-themed products included.
Virility drinks are the new Doritos gate scandal.

Clown triggers looked pretty bad in their concept renders and did not fit the art style of the game at all (WAY too anime even for DMC). Their in-game models while you are playing them don't look nearly as bad.

very very Shorditch

But the look doesn't suprise me. Tanneem looks, carries himself and speaks just like one of those post-postmodernist wankers from that area. His idea of "fashion" was bound to be felt in the game somewhere...

Its a recoloring of the main character from 'The Crow'

But you can think its some sort of personal attack by the director if you want

I actually liked DMC3 DT. I don't think I really disliked any of the DT designs.

I don't like the Rebellion one. Too shitty for what should be his 'Dante' Trigger if you were. Looks more bearable in DMC4 but still not epic enough for what should be the most powerful dudebro on the planet.

Speaking of DMC4, I decided to play through it again. Just got to where I can control Dante. I forgot how funny and awesome this game is. Some great environments though Fortuna Castle is still a stinker with shitty puzzles.

How I miss Nero.
