DmC Review Thread (Release Date - 1/15/13) Embargo is over!

But the best game with Dante in it ever made had DMC 2 Dante.

Yes. I agree. Too bad he wasn't so useful at around the end of the game.

We actually did get the Nero DT.. it's very similar to that one but we have never seen it's corporeal form. The Dante one yea... that one was very different from what we got.

I'm really close to pre-ordering this on Steam since I have $150 in my Steam Wallet from Christmas gifts and I returned an (unopened) Zombi U in favor of more Steam cards.

There are no games outside of DmC I'm interested in coming out for the next month, so that preorder for a Devil May Cry "Complete" pack for $59 that includes Devil May Cry 3 SE and Devil May Cry 4 seems pretty tempting. I beat Devil May Cry 4 on 360 but never played 3. I know that initially the port was considered bad and pretty demanding when it came out five years ago but I have a pretty monster PC with an overclocked Radeon 7970, so I'm guessing this may not be a problem.

It's in my shopping cart as we speak and I'm debating it. Basically I am pretty sure I want the base game as I loved Enslaved (one of my favorite games this generation) and I liked the previous Devil May Cry games I played, so this seems like a good match for me. I'm definitely not one of the hard core players who like to upload videos of SSS combos, so complaints about the game being "dumbed down" fall on completely deaf ears for me.

Basically, I guess I'm wondering if Devil May Cry 3 SE and Devil May Cry 4 on PC are worth the extra $10. I already beat 4 and I'm not sure I'd go back and play it (but I might). It would be nice to have something to play to tide me over until the game is released in a couple of weeks though.

DMC4 is gorgeous on PC and alone is worth $10. DMC3 is a clusterfuck on PC and you'll have to work to get it running correctly, even on a monster PC.

Hrm. I liked Devil May Cry 4 quite a bit but I played the hell out of it already even going back to S rank all the levels. That was a about three or four years ago, but I'm not generally one to go back and play games once I beat them. Are there any extra for the PC release of it that might make it worthwhile to revisit?

Devil May Cry 3 was the main draw since I never played that one (or much of 2--I only beat 1 and 4). I think I initially skipped it because of the reviews that called it punishing which was supposed to be addressed in the SE version.

Capcom not giving out DLC via PSN? Say it isn't so!

I still want my Cody Alt for buying Street vs Juggleken day one on PSN, Capcom you asses.

Yes, but Sony lied or Capcom backtracked about extending the vergil dlc to psn pre-orders.

They said for European PSN store right?

For the United States and Canada the Vergil content is free if you pre-order at Gamestop/Eb games. But in Europe, it's free if you download the game via PSN.

Also, the OT for DmC doesn't have a review score section like most OT's do, so any new reviews for the game?

Zavvi and shopto also have the Vergil DLC. I already got my code from *********** but, of course, it doesn't work yet.

I only care about what journalists about the story in DmC. When it comes to gameplay, I trust them as much as I trust fighting game reviews.

:lol The Sun. Tabloid reviews of anything are comical, as are media promotions that reference them.

Still, I expect 8's and 9's to be the norm for DmC.

It's got the lengendary dark knight mode, which makes you fight several times more enemies at once. It's not really hard, but it's pretty fun, in some of the fights the whole combat area is litterally covered in monsters. You also can enable a turbo mode that makes the game faster, but I've never used it so I don't really know if it's good or not. Also, you've got the usual benefits of playing on PC, better graphics, loading times that are A LOT faster when playing the game in DX10 (they're almost instantaneous), and also you can play the game at 120 fps quite easily (I could get a locked 60 fps on a 9600gt, so any modern card will handle the game with no problems).

Its a recoloring of the main character from 'The Crow'

But you can think its some sort of personal attack by the director if you want

*Tameem makes claim that original Dante isn't cool anymore.*

*Chooses alt costume based on cheesy 90s bullshit.*

I don't know if I buy that it's based on The Crow. (I'm not arguing it's based on Tameem's personal style, either.)

Although I don't know why I'd take Tameem's original claim at face value.

Do you really believe that bullshit?
Name all these British games they have given inflated scores to.

I don't think it applies for every British game, and I'm sure plenty of US sites will give it 8s too.

But if you want a clearly inflated score, Edge did give Neverdead a 7.

You know, I've never paid attention to gaming PR, but DmC and the new Tomb Raider are both cases that show how unfortunate PR, interviews (old Dante not being cool enough, "I don't care" about fans etc.) and various comments from developers (that "60fps feel") can really hurt games they were supposed to promote.

Stellar scores all round. Well done Ninja Theory. I was skeptical they could pull this off but early critical concensus has been surprisingly positive. Around forums and threads like this one there still seems to be residue of the backlash to the change in Dante's design. Even so I trust the critics on this one and shall be getting this. Soon.

Are there any impressions/reviews out there for the PC version? I'm really curious about its visual and performance differences from the PS3 version.

None yet, but it blowing the PS3 version out of the water is a bet worth splitting the hand and doubling up on both for.
