A question for the ladies of gaf.
Given biological differences to the brain and eye it has been well documented that spacial navigation is handled differently between genders. Specifically, in this regard, that men are generally allocentric (environment-based navigation) while women are mostly egocentric (self-based navigation). This is seen in the stereotype of women having to turn a map around the place in order to plot a route which, rather than being a sign of stupidity (as has typically been suggested) is simply an alternative way to process information that was male-centric to start with.
So anyway, my question is that given that dev teams are almost universally male dominated it is possible to assume that maps/compasses/navigation information are generally presented in a way that is easier to process for men than women. Have any of you ever found this frustrating? For example, have you ever wished you could spin the map in grand-theft auto et al? If not, do you think you've simply gotten used to the issue, or that it was never an issue to start with either due to devs (deliberately or accidently) making the game 'girl friendly' for navigation or simply that you personally were always good at environment-based navigation to start with.
I got thinking about this because of FFXIII which re-orientates the large scale map in the pause menu based on the direction you're facing (thus making it 'girl focused'), which confused the crap out of me on Pulse ("where am I, I don't recognize this map").

The map is one of the reasons I personally never finished a GTA game, though the controls would be a bigger reason, I think. But that's interesting to consider. I hate the maps in most games!
...though if I don't have a map at all, I often get lost. Exception: Left 4 Dead. But probably only because I played them both one billion times. Also, zombies are a great motivational tool.
