Do I need a PS5 Pro?

Hello folks.

I am torn between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro. I almost have enough for the Pro, but is it a necessity for games going forward? I'm not worried about 4k/60fps as I never really noticed it before when I had a launch PS5. I got rid of that because the launch games didn't appeal to me.

So, in your opinion, should I go all out with the PS5 Pro or is the PS5 going to be left in the dust in the near future?

It is not a necessity to get PS5 Pro. If you don't mind slightly lower rez/fidelity then PS5 is fine.

If you have the extra money to spare get the Pro.

It's a good upgrade as is and who knows what future games are going to perform like on base PS5.

The upgrade over the PS5 is well worth a few hundred bucks.
 
I forgot to mention my TV. It's about 5 years old and is a 4K Samsung model. I don't even know if that would make a difference on it or not. But yeah, I'm leaning towards PS5, but I kinda want the Pro. I don't know. PS5 plus games sounds better than Pro with just what I had already bought in the past.

Every time you play a video game on a device that isn't a PS5 Pro a kitten dies. Do you want to be a baby cat murderer?
 
It's awesome. although not mandatory. Some games look perceptibly better and/or have better FPS. FPS is also kept in the VRR window more often, so it solves judder. SSD and WiFi 7 are great as well.
 
Suppose if 4K isn't a concern, it would be if you wanted to go digital or physical. So between a PS5 slim/pro/standard go slim. If cutting edge, go Pro, if physical go standard. Unless you want to find/ drop another 80 bucks on the disc drive
 
Based on what you're saying I probably wouldn't get a PS5 Pro in your position. I mean I love the Pro, but if you weren't all that impressed with the launch PS5 the Pro probably isn't going to feel like a worthwhile investment for you. Not unless you're going to be playing a lot.

I personally would not have gotten the Pro because of disk space and 8k but what it's even able to do in terms of improved performance and fidelity across a multitude of titles.

8K isn't even a mainstream thing yet to be considered as a 'best' feature.

Then no. Plus the gains in some games are minimal at best. As a Pro owner I think the base PS5 is more than enough to carry you until PS6.

Get a nice used PS5 phat, invest in a 1TB drive, and you're set.

I have Pro and hardly use it. Just got it for Astro Bot.
 
I got a Pro, slapped it onto my phone contract for 30 quid month for 2 years, so £720. And for some reason, I got sent 8 £50 playstation cards along with it. Then I got a text from them giving me an EE card.. Which turns out was 150 quid to use on anything I want gaming wise.

Played on it twice......
 
As an owner of a pro all i can say is: no.

I mainly got mine because it was a "because i can" situation (especially with a one-time use employee discount i had at the time) but ultimately i dont see too many differences between it and my last ps5. It is nice that it has twice the memory (around 2.5x more compared to the launch ps5's) but for the price of the pro you can always just but extra storage with a standard model and maybe even a game or two
 
Get the pro. At this point, if you're buying for the first time, the pro is the only logical choice. The base while alright is already starting to struggle badly and I'm some games. It'll not get better over time but worse. So, if you're primarily a PlayStation gamer and plan to keep the hardware for an extended period of time, then get the pro.

Also, the pro is more likely to handle cross gen between ps5 and ps6 due to its pssr support and the more powerful hardware.

To trully answer this question, will u be ok paying for ur games just as much as pr0 owner but getting subpar experience incase u only got base ps5? If yes go base ps5, if u know it will eat u from inside, like it would eat me, get the fricken pr0, just for peace of mind.

Ofc most games wont have such a crazy difference, but some will, particulary many of graphically intense games will 4sure .
Keep in mind we likely wont see ps6 till holidays 2028 so when 3nm tsmc node will be mature enough to produce console size die on it, 3,5years+ left and dunno if u wanna suffer all that time on base ps5.

Even you don't care about 4K/60, I say if it is your hobby and you plan to use it several hours per week, then go get the Pro.
Life is too short to not enjoy a hobby at its best possible way, even more so if the best possible way is just a few hundred bucks more expensive comparatively to the total lifetime of the product.

Sure but this is a matter of a hobby/leisure-time, so it's not just about economic value I think.

Regular PS5, Pro is not worth it unless you play certain games that utilise it well (which are very few atm) and no disc drive

Some factors to consider. Does your TV support 120hz VRR. If yes you'll get a lot out of the Pro.

Will you be buying a ps6 at launch or will this be your console for the next 7/8+ years? If it's a 7/8 year console I'd definitely want the Pro. If you'll trade in for a PS6 just remember a ps5 Pro will have better resale value then base ps5.

And lastly it depends what game's you play but there's a lot of great pro enhanced games for me personally.
 
It kind of depends. If you have a nice 4K HDR 120 Hz TV with VRR, if you plan on playing a lot of Sony first party games, and are the kind of person who watches lots of digital foundry videos and can tell the difference between 45 fps and 60fps, you're the kind of person who appreciate a Pro.

Otherwise no.

You certainly don't need one, but it's nice to have if you can afford it. Tons of games benefit, from PS5 pro enhanced ones to games without patches that now run at a higher framerate or resolution. Even the upgrades to PS4 games are pretty cool.
