Do you like the name "NX" or do you think Nintendo should change it?

They've never kept an early codename, they won't start now. I don't like NX and I don't think they'd want to keep NX even if it were an option, so they'll choose something else and tell us when they unveil and announce the console proper sometime next year for its eventual 2017 launch.

Whether it'll be a genius name like Wii or a backbreaking one like WiiU, who knows.

I just hope they don't don't include Wii in the name. Not even Wii 2. It's just too confusing as shown by the Wii U. New brand pls

Unfortunately they still don't seem to get it. New Nintendo 3DS is confusing as fuck. Please Nintendo, don't make it another Wii U/N3DS situation

Amiibox, comes in several different designs based on your favourite Nintendo characters! Buy the limited edition Zelda anniversary Amiibox and get a free Wolf Link Amiibo!!

I don't like it but I always assumed it was a code name, so I'm not bothered. I'm sure whatever they come up instead with will be stupid though. Sony has had logical and classy console names on lockdown for a long time.

No, you guys are right. Scratch that. That's what I get for rushing my posts. (Multi-tasking GAF with life)

I'm sure there was something about the 'Developer System'/Dual Screen name switching (but making no difference as it was still DS), but maybe that was a marketing thing between unveiling and release.

I think someone just made that up for their developer presentation and somehow it got reported everywhere. I've still got the slides somewhere, maybe the only presentation where you find nintendo systems and N-gage on the same chart.

It's not terrible, but they probably need something catchier for the mainstream.

Going back to Nintendo Entertainment System with a well done marketing campaign as some suggest isn't a bad idea. I can't think of a better name off the top of my head. It generates nostalgia for people who grew up with it, and clearly says what it is to younger folks.

To think....

If the NX is cartridge based. Would that mean we will see a rebirth of things like the Super FX chip? Where we get extra tech put into a cartridge? Sorry that really deserves it's own thread.

...NX is just a project name though, so they could call it the hell they like.

The name will likely be "insert brand name of new shared platform" followed by a shorter codename like X or neo or someshit.

That way all the handheld/console/smartphone app store share the same brand and actual hardware will be differentiated by the companion letter when it comes to names

Whatever it is, the letters W I and I cannot be a part of it

Strongly doubt it. If it's cart based, it will just be SD-like cards (or DS/3DS like game cards).

I think they should go retro and go with Nintendo Entertainment System.

Nostalgia sells too much these days to ignore, Jurassic World & Star Wars pulling a lot of weight on name alone.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, it just needs to be as simple as below:

The New Nintendo Entertainment System

The New Nintendo

The Nintendo

Anything like this would be a fantastic statement followed up by a strong marketing push.

"The God Father of gaming is back!"

NX is fine. There's no scenario where it doesn't get changed. Actually, all the code names have been better than reality. Although I forgot them all except Cafe just now.

The Nintendo 5
It's not the 5th Nintendo console, but it's just one above the PS4, giving it that psychological edge.

Hyper Nintendo
"We're focusing on being hyper fast and super efficient with our first-party efforts this gen."

The Nintendo AAA
A powerful system that will attract all the third-party giants.

I don't really like NX as a consumer facing name, no.

I hope they're not stupid enough to do it but I could see them calling it Nintendo Wii Familii or some dumb shit like that. I just hope that they break their trend of "names that nobody thinks are new things". Like I honestly don't know if the whole New 3ds or whatever that was is actually a new device or just another model of the 3ds but that problem shouldn't even exist with better naming conventions.

It won't be sounding future-y (so Nexus is out, unfortunately), and I would at least hope they have the common sense to break off from the Wii branding (but still keep the Mii avatar).

Personally, I think NX is nice. They could probably re-work it to Nintendo Xenon if they wanted. Noble gas, up in the cloud, used in neon lights so it'll probably have a glowy bar like the PS4 does, plus again it'll be a nice throwback to one aspect of the Wii design that everyone really liked about it to begin with.

NX would stand out in search engine results and in people's minds IMO, kind of like XP did for Windows when the OS was still supported (and even now). I wouldn't mind if they kept the name but Nintendo likes to give pet names to their machines rather than technical sounding model numbers.

Just for marketing, I kind of doubt the system will have an "X" in it after all.

It's going to be the "Nintendo Word-You've-Never-Heard" and we're all going to begrudgingly accept it.

Your dog is named Cube?

I thought the code name for the DS was Nitro.

You're right !

But Nintendo publicly announced the Nintendo DS as a tentative name and they finally sticked with it.

I don't remember Nintendo reffering publicly to Nitro and Project Cafe, but they did with Dolphin, Revolution and NX (and those are cool project names). I miss that Dolphin era :)

I don't like it very much, but it's miles ahead of Wii and Wii U. Like the OP stated, it's only a codename and it'll change eventually. Nintendo Revolution would have been dope, I hope they bust that one out eventually.

Revolution was a badass name but NX sounds exactly what it is; a codename. I wouldn't care much if it was the name but I don't find it very creative or impactful at all.

I like it but I dont think they are going to stick with it. Anyway if they keep it the web NX-gamer its going to have to avoid some misunderstundings, when I see any news from that web I always think its from the new console.
