Do you like the name "NX" or do you think Nintendo should change it?

I like it. I've grown used to "NX" for some time now and will be at least mildly disappointed if they replace it with some ridiculous name.

But if they do, I don't mind it being called Nintendo Play, sourcing their recent commercial slogan "There's no PLAY like it". May also replace ABXY buttons with PLAY, because it would make sense somehow.

I was really hoping they would go back to something that echoed the early days of the company that all us original fans would love. Sure it's a play on nostalgia, but we all know how powerful that can sometimes be.

Nintendo Entertainment System X
NESX

This is what I was thinking, too, or NESx

NX sounds pretty "techy", but I do like the Nintendo Go suggestion since it can borrow those hype from Pokemon Go and it fits it's hybrid nature.

I absolutely love it.

It sounds simple yet mysterious.

And the X can simply be replaced with numbers in the future.

Call it the 'Nintendo'.

Win-win-win all around. It plays console, it plays handheld, it plays mobile. It's the only Nintendo machine you need to buy for the entire lifecycle, and you get access to the entire Nintendo library, new, and old (VC). 'Nintendo' used to be ubiquitous with videogames, why not play to that crowd? They're obviously interested in catering to the lapsed fans... the NES Mini retro system makes that plain enough. Remind everyone what makes Nintendo so great, and then sell us all on the new 'Nintendo'.

Makes sense to me.

Lol I love how op tries so hard to defend their silly thread by bring up the ds, literally the only system ever in the history of video games to keep its code name. That's not even technically true because ds DID have a code name at one point and it was 'nitro' so yeah, of fucking course they will change it to something else

Defend the thread? It's asking people a simple question, and someone else brought the DS up, I just put it in the OP, and that was to prevent the discussion from moving away from the question in the title

You've answered a question (the bolded) that no one asked, and so have contributed nothing to the discussion

"Nintendo" name is stil powerful, a lot of people I know that don't care about videogames were excited about the NES mini.

I like Nintendo NX, even if about none know what it means, even Kimishima in an interview said he don't know, but would be cool maintain the codename choosen by Iwata.

Anyway, I think they'll change it, but I hope they use the word "Nintendo" primarily.

Nintendo Go is my prediction.

I can think of..

Nintendo Quest (go on a quest)

Nintendo Homebase (dock)

Maybe,

Nintendo Go for the Portable

Nintendo Home for the base?

NEX
Nexxus (to avoid copyright problems with Google Nexus lol)
NES II

Some of my favourites. I'm ok with the NX name but I feel like having X be a major part of the name infringes on the Xbox brand. Go for something different.

I'm a fan of the way Sony does things though. Just find one good name and add the iterative number on the end to denote it's a successor and we avoid shit like Wii U.

*New* Nintendo Entertainment System.

Seriously though, NES really makes a lot of sense if this is really their only console moving forward.

I like it, but I also hope they change it. I felt the same way about Revolution. It was a cool name but it would not have been anywhere as good as "Wii," from a mass market perspective.

Personally, I think they should have given it a final name before they said when they'd be releasing it. Everyone who's heard the news that NX is coming in March 2017 is now already familiar with that name.

Another suggestion for the NX=10 justification. What if it represents the '10th innovation' of Nintendo?

1. Modern console gaming (NES)
2. 'Blast Processing' (SNES)
3. Portable Gaming (GB/GBC/GBA)
4. Analog Stick (N64)
5. Something Dope About The GameCube
6. Dual-Screen Gaming (NDS)
7. Motion Gaming (Wii)
8. 3D (3DS(
9. Off-Screen play (WiiU)
10. NX

Plus, there's the Handheld X Console angle.

From a pure marketing standpoint, NX needs to change. I don't doubt that it will, I just hope the end result doesn't try to piggyback on the Wii's success somehow (ie. Nintendo Yuu or something stupid).

I'd love to see the meltdowns if there is a new console from Nintendo that just so happens to carry the 'Wii' name yet again.
