Do you like what you've seen so far from Wii U's visuals?

They showed it in the direct so I assumed it was Wii U. I heard it had Wii U buttons or whatever but I cant remember for myself. Has a direct showed PC footage of a multiplatform game before? If so I could be wrong I didnt think about it that way though to be honest.

A and X buttons were shown, so it's either Wii U or 360 or PC footage. I don't recall seeing any of it before though so I'm inclined to believe it's Wii U. It's very quick but it doesn't appear to look as good as the PC version.

Nintendo's look is the matte to Sony and Microsoft's gloss. I like their commitment to 60fps and think these E3 WiiU games will likely hold up well in the future too.

They all look like current gen games except for Mario Kart 8 which look a little "next gen-ish" with the shaders and some good lighting. Looks good.

Imagine a 3D Mario in a world like this...

Fucking Nintendo

When it comes to graphics it felt like smaller studios if given a shot could outdo Nintendo. You look at games like the Witcher and then some of the bigger studios out there and finally Nintendo who has been known in it's time to put out some amazing games that use to be stunning for tor their era and it's like "What the hell happened".

Nintendo does not seem to be trying a lot much of the time now. That's depressing. Nintendo is capable of so much more but they're not showing it.

Yeah that's completely wrong if you actually look at the high res feeds. They put so much work into the tiny subtle details of the texture work and animation, but the improvements are going to be very incremental as far as the mainline Nintendo stuff goes, because that's just the art style of those games. Mario basically reached visual perfection(aside from IQ) with SMG, all they can do with those games is increase the IQ and polish up the details. When they finally get around to releasing a Zelda or Metroid game we shall see what Nintendo can do, but it seems like that is going to take a while.

I knew this E3 will shut the hardware haters up around here. I was blown away by Bayo 2, X, Mario World, and MK8. All this 60fps gameplay is just jaw dropping with this much fidelity on screen. I cant wait to get these games!

Mario Kart looks pure next gen to me. I think it looks much better than sonic All star racing transformed on pc, and a million times better than mod nation racers.

Yep, I think you're out of your mind if you think that Mario Kart made for the PS4/Xbox One/PC would look any better then that footage. They said the GPU is a few steps up from current-generation consoles and I believe it now.

What? Do you really think Mario Kart on GPU with up to 6x the power wouldn't look any better?

Alot of the games look really nice, more than good enough really. I'm just REALLY disapointed by the artistic direction in some of the newer Nintendo titles. Safe doesn't even begin to describe it, that new Mario game looks straight up bland.

I'm excited for a bunch of games on Wii U though and graphics are solid enough, especially considering that the performance level seems great in all these games. i wouldn't be happy if PS4 was only capable of this level of graphical fidelity but the Wii U looks to be a great complementary system.

Nintendo does need to step it up with their first party stuff, I LOVED DKCR and I'm having trouble being genuinely excited for DKTF. I was really hoping for a kickass new IP from RETRO but it looks like Nintendo just isn't interested at all....

Yeah I'm liking what I'm seeing. DKCTF looked incredible in the developer video. Dem backgrounds.

Edit: Just saw the MK8 gameplay footage posted...O_O

I hadn't seen that video yet, thanks for sharing. I know it sounds crazy, but mk8 honestly looks better than any ps4 or xbone game that I've seen so far. I assumed that non launch window Wii u games would have improved graphics, but I'm blown away by what I saw in that video.
Keep your mouth closed. People think we are crazy :p

Second-year or more. 80% of those games aren't coming out until 2014 at the earliest.

And yet, they are looking the way they look, right now, halfway the systems first year. What you are seeing is running on actual WiiU's, so that's what the system is able to do at this point in developers hands. The fact that they are at least 7 months away, means they can look even better by the time they release.

Walking the floor today, the Wii U games looked beautiful. Sharp, colorful and vibrant. Bayonetta looked great too, despite the model they had there looking like she'd rather be doing anything other than stand there. Problem is that they need to lower the cost of the console or else only a few will ever play these gorgeous games.

I don't care about your power level multipliers. Think realistically here, not in buzzwords and marketing terms. Draw distances? It's got those. Fantastic lighting? Got that. Textures look fantastic. It's even got an increased racer count. You'd have to shoehorn a mechanic in to find another area of improvement. Make clay shells that explode into a thousand miniature clay particles when you hit someone! How completely excessive. Just suck it up. Wii U looks like it is built to run certain types of software just as good as the competition. It may not run complex physics crunching yet, but it looks more than capable of handling all of the franchises Nintendo competes in just as well as other hardware can.

Mario kart looks so good going to enjoy 5 player when in comes out next year

And I love the kart series have all the games except 7

I can believe someone would find it the best looking title... but he didn't say stuff like "bet you cant find a game that looks anywhere close" or "every other title on next gen can easily be compared to some current gen stuff"

THAT is what makes people think you are crazy, not finding Mario Kart 8 the most visually pleasing game you've seen at e3.

So Mario Kart will never look any better? Pack it up guys we've reached the peak....

People are going a little bit crazy with the Mario Kart stuff, but it does look really great.

I'm glad they are targeting 60 FPS for so many of their games and 1080p for some (that we know). That's a big deal.

Fair enough. I over exaggerated but Im pretty much in his train of thought.

Sorry if I offend anybody :)

Look at the direct feed video. The off-screen video is... off-screen, and from a distance, which hides a lot of the flaws like the average poly count characters, lack of AA, and average textures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DFlsrXU2NM8

The game is impressive for Wii U's hardware, and at 60 fps to boot, but this doesn't compare to the next-gen PS4/X1 games.

The cartoony art style helps a lot.

Uh, off screen video is always more similar to what you see when you're playing on your own TV.

There's a lot more to good visuals than things like poly counts and texture details. Most of the ps4/xbone games looked like complete garbage despite all the boasting.

Nothing shown looks better than ps3 first party. Beyond could easily pass as a ps4 game.

So........you're saying nothing on the PS4 right now looks leaps and bounds better than what's on the PS3, essentially saying that the Wii U and PS4 are almost graphically on-par?

(I highly disagree, btw. Compare Mario Kart to Mod Nation, Smash Bros to All Stars, and X to any open-world RPG on current gen............no contest.)

Looks good, Bayonetta 2, X and MK8 are the first that make me think these titles would not be possible on the current gen, so they look next gen-ish. There were technically more impressive games on E3 imo, but they were also on much better hardware so in reality they are the ones that need to step up their game.

So Mario Kart will never look any better? Pack it up guys we've reached the peak....

I haven't got the future all worked out and I'm not claiming to. I'm just saying that at this sliver in time, there isn't a whole lot else that one could realistically expect. Give it 5 years when the next console Mario Kart game comes out and I'm sure those things will change. Maybe by the time Wii U phases out, 4K will suddenly make some sense. I don't know.

I have no issues with Wii U's visuals. 3D World looks excellent, and Mario Kart looks amazing. I honestly didn't think they would have stuff looking so clean this early.

The art style of their first party games carries them a long way imo. Simply looking clean and at a true native HD makes some of them really pop.

What the hell heavy...?

I think most of the games they've shown look next gen. Not in the sense that they look as good as PS4/XB1, but in the sense that they do things that couldn't be done last gen. It might just be lighting or image quality, some neat effects, but I'm definitely seeing at least some things I didn't see in 360 and PS3.

Played 3D world and Mario Kart today and I was pretty impressed with the visuals. Definitely good enough for me.

You will never, never, never, ever be pleased with what Nintendo does.

I mean, come on. Mario Kart 8 looks pretty fucking rad.

Personally I think they're fine. They obviously aren't up to the level of Killzone or anything, but they are at a point where I think they're more than acceptable. Mario Kart 8 and X are standouts so far.

You literally said anyone who thinks this game would look better made for PS4 is crazy. You literally said that....

Look I'm not trying to say MK8 doesn't look great but lets stop with the hyperbole now.

What the hell heavy...?

You've never heard of off-screen vids and why direct feed is better? This is common knowledge when talking about graphics. You could make the Uncharted games look like a AAA next-gen games with off-screen vids from a distance.

It looks fantastic for a Wii U game. I'm quite impressed.

Some of these games are heavily unfinished, like Smash Bros.

I will say at this point though: most of the games do seem to show off lighting that is visibly and consistently above what we see on the PS3 and 360. I mean it's instantly visible, not a marginal improvement. So that's very nice, at least.

Bayonetta 2 may also be benefiting from the increased system ram as its backgrounds appear to be much more elaborate with superior textures compared to Bayonetta 1 on 360. Bayo 1's scenery was usually pretty spartan to maintain that framerate.

Lol you played down wii u hardware so much all these months. Loving this. Lol

Wii U games looked great and can definitely holds its own(at least first party) but I'm sure graphics wont be the most integral part of next gen. Most of these new games(for One and ps4) look like reskinned 360/ps3 which is what dissapointed me.
