Do you like what you've seen so far from Wii U's visuals?

You've never heard of off-screen vids and why direct feed is better? This is common knowledge when talking about graphics. You could make the Uncharted games look like a AAA next-gen games with off-screen vids from a distance.

It looks fantastic for a Wii U game. I'm quite impressed.
So you believe that those direct youtube feeds was what people saw on the show floor at E3?

X looked better than Deadrising 3. severly underpowered? Lol yea sure.

There's a ton of characters on screen with Deadrising 3. I'm not saying X doesn't look better but you have to take that into account.

And yes, severely underpowered. Where have you been the last year? The specs are woefully underpowered in terms of a next-gen leap. RAM, cpu, gpu, everything.

After taking the time to look at the videos in HD, I actually find a lot of what Nintendo showed today really gorgeous and charming. Stuff like the hairy spider or pink lips enemies in Pikmin 3 is almost soothing after EA and Microsoft's conferences. Wonderful 101 has a very strong personality too. Mario Kart looks surprisingly good. Also a lot of emphasis on 1080p and-or 60fps.

Watch_Dogs looked good, but are we sure it was Wii U footage?

It has to be because it's a clear step down from the PC version. The PS4 version was a noticeable step down. But the team handling the port seems to be doing a good job. I hope we see more soon.

Me too i really curious how that's coming along. Also wii-u owners should check the e-shop if you haven't already,Nintendo has some very high quality trailers up.

Oddworld was shown and I thought Sony said it was an exclusive to PS4. Am I misremembering?

Imagine a 3D Mario in a world like this...

Fucking Nintendo

I think the disappointment I had with 3D World is because I was expecting/hoping for a 3D Mario that looked something like that.

I own a WiiU and knew it wasn't going to stand up against the next Xbox and PlayStation when I bought it. IMO of you buy a Nintendo console for anything else than Nintendo IPs than you haven't really been paying attention to the last 2 generation's. With that said I am honestly blow away at how good X, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Kart look. This makes me excited about Nintendo games in the future.

To be fair, while the Wii U is obviously less powerful than the Xbone/PS4, games like X look better than any and all games in the PS360 library.

You literally said anyone who thinks this game would look better made for PS4 is crazy. You literally said that....

Look I'm not trying to say MK8 doesn't look great but lets stop with the hyperbole now.

I don't get how you're reading into what I'm saying, how. I'm saying at this sliver in time, there aren't any clear improvements and if this game were to launch on any other currently available hardware that I won't expect it to look any better at all.

To me, X and Mario Kart 8 look just as good in motion as any particular PS4 or Xbone game. Can't say I've seen any Bayonetta 2 videos though.

Mario 3D World looks unbelievably disappointing though, especially looking at MK8.

Exactly the same here.

I really don't understand what this company is thinking.

Probably that shitload of people like the 3D Land concept and it's selling really well.

A lot of Mario Galaxy fans didn't notice, but right here on GAF quite a lot of people utterly loved 3D Land's take on 3D Mario.

Wait a second I'm starting to watch some videos of DKCR and man does it look like they started development of that game on the Wii. That can't be the only game they've been working on for 3 years. It just can't be. I take it back DKCR is the most visually disappointing game from them

Can someone explain to me why people are pointing out the fact that these Wii U games don't look as good as PS4 and X1 titles? Um, hello people, IT'S ON WEAKER HARDWARE lol.

5 more CPU cores, tons more RAM, and stronger GPU's.

Of course Wii U games aren't going to look good, stop saying it.

But they don't HAVE to. All because they're not as good-looking doesn't mean they're not next-gen, there HAS to be a lowest-common-denominator people...........that's like saying the Dreamcast wasn't a 6th gen system because it didn't compare to GameCube of Xbox graphics.

And while I haven't seen it here, I see a lot of people around the net once again pulling this mid-gen "7.5" bullshit. There's no such thing. If something is stronger, then it's stronger, it's next gen. It's just the weakest of the 3.

Pretty much agree with everything. If Wii U games continue to progress graphically we should see graphics that hold up well enough against PS4/Xbox, to be fine as long as they can bring enough killer content.

I could be wrong, but it appeared that in the Nintendo 3rd Party Sizzle Reel that the buttons looked like Wii U style buttons

(could also be Xbox I guess) but it looked like a white/clear "X" reminiscent of Nintendo icon, rather than the "blue" X that would be on Xbox or Grey w blue on PS

I understand it could all just be a stylized general font, but its a possibility that its genuine Wii U footage as well

Seriously. I wanted an Open World Single Player 3D Mario in Mushroom Kingdom (or Dinosaur Land) with graphics like Mario Kart 8.

I'm worried Super Mario 3D world will feel like a 3D version of the 'New' series.

We all want things. Doesn't mean it had any chance of happening (and an open world 3D Mario hasn't been seen since Sunshine, so that definitely wasn't going to happen)

I have to say, I'm in a state of utter disbelief right now, after seeing all the off-screen footage. Nintendo's lame-a$$ direct streams just totally ruined to beauty of these games.

Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 still have my jaw on the floor. I had no idea Wii U was this freaking capable... WTF Nintendo! How could launch games be that freaking gimped? I'm seeing stuff that I expected only PS4/XBO would be capable of. Some of this stuff looks better than the some of the games they showed, and definitely a TON more exciting to play.

(I may have to revise my E3 rating... but maybe Nintendo deserves my "low" rating, because they're the one who chose that low-quality format to reveal such stunning games.)

Oddworld was shown and I thought Sony said it was an exclusive to PS4. Am I misremembering?
Yeah, they did. It was something a long the lines of "All these indie games will make their exclusive console debut on Playstation 4". I'm not sure what to make of that, I can think up a lot of reason's for that tibit of misinformation.

Would be great to hear from Retro again sooner rather than later. I kinda wondered the same thing but they were helping on other projects correct?

Knack is actually a very good game to compare Mario Kart 8 to because of the similarity in art styles. Mario Kart blows it out of the water by far imo.

What I actually liked the most....THEIR GAMES HAVE COLOR!!!!! seriously, they have beautiful color. it seems the next gen still wants to continue the trend of little to know color in their games. Look at the new final fantsy for instance, it's liked they drained the color outta that one :/

Umm, there's nothing to convince. We have the specs. It's not an opinion, the specs are known for all 3 consoles and the Wii U is woefully underpowered. Where have you been?

Where have you been? No one is saying that Wii U has better hardware. woefully and severly underpowered now? Go check out the OP videos again. Your adjectives do not apply. Haters gonna hate.

I'm going to put this out here right now: 3D world will not move any more units than NSMB U did. And for the same exact reason. There is absolutely no wow factor.

MK8 has the best chance of injecting some life into the system, but that comes out next year.

Most of the Wii U games at this years show look clearly better than your average 360/PS3 fair. It can roll with the big boys, even if it's the little brother of the group. I'm ecstatic.

The specs are woefully underpowered compared to the other two consoles. Specs are specs, they're not going to change. Compare them yourself. Graphically these games aren't even close to The Division, The Order, Quantum Break, DriveClub, Forza 5, Second Son (open-world and completely destroys X graphically), Destiny, and many more. Do they look great for Wii U's hardware? They look fantastic in that context, even better than I expected with some of them being 1080p.

I seriously did not expect MK8 to look that good. I was thinking that the new Mario would be the best looking. However I'm fine with the visuals shown thus far.

I'm pretty happy with how they look. There's a noticeable gap with PS4 games, but Wii U games are still pleasing to look at.

Sorry Son, but 2nd Son or any other game shown by xbone or ps4 do not destroys X. Like i said we all know Sony and MS consoles have more horse power under the hood but your adjectives dont apply.

Because comparing spec sheets to measure actual output worked out SO well for people in the 6th console generation.

Lol, there's little point in arguing with an ultra hardcore fan such as yourself because you'll never back down, but yes those games do look far better graphically than these Wii U games. It's complete delusion to think otherwise, again graphically, not artistically. Second Son, The Order, Quantum Break, DriveClub, Forza 5, Destiny, The Division, all destroy. Watch the videos.

The same can be said about yourself. however, you are alone on this one. Keep fighting the good fight.

Oddworld's also headed to 360, PS3 and Vita. All the same time, it made no sense for it to be in Sony exclusive window indie montage unless that's all changed.

Also, Mercenary Kings might be U bound too, though it's not official yet. Tribute just became licensed WU/3DS devs a couple weeks back.

I don't care about your power level multipliers. Think realistically here, not in buzzwords and marketing terms. Draw distances? It's got those. Fantastic lighting? Got that. Textures look fantastic. It's even got an increased racer count. You'd have to shoehorn a mechanic in to find another area of improvement. Make clay shells that explode into a thousand miniature clay particles when you hit someone! How completely excessive. Just suck it up. Wii U looks like it is built to run certain types of software just as good as the competition. It may not run complex physics crunching yet, but it looks more than capable of handling all of the franchises Nintendo competes in just as well as other hardware can.

Can you really not picture Mario Kart looking any better? Look at the screens. Textures aren't overly detailed, there's some aliasing, level geometry could be more complex etc. It doesn't really matter when it's moving by the looks of things but these are easily identifiable areas that could be improved.

Uh, off screen video is always more similar to what you see when you're playing on your own TV.

There's a lot more to good visuals than things like poly counts and texture details. Most of the ps4/xbone games looked like complete garbage despite all the boasting.

Off screen video is more similar to what you see when playing? Since when? I would have thought 1080P direct gameplay footage playing through your home TV would be the most representative of... what you'd see when playing the game on your TV. Correct me if I'm wrong!

All that said, I think Mario Kart looks really great. Much better than I thought it would, and really rather impressive by any metric.

The same can be said about yourself. however, you are alone on this one. Keep fighting the good fight.

Lol, I'm not the one that's alone with this sentiment. All of those games mentioned in my last post destroy everything on Wii U graphically. It's just silly to even debate something like that.

This is a direct feed video of Mario Kart 8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DFlsrXU2NM8

These are direct feed screenshots:

The game looks great for Wii U's hardware and runs at 60 fps. But stuff like DriveClub, Forza 5, Gran Turismo 6, ehh never mind...this is a wasted endeavor. Yes, they're different styles of games but it's still possible to compare the graphics.

Oddworld not going to 360.

What? Do you really think Mario Kart on GPU with up to 6x the power wouldn't look any better?

You're one of the sane Nintendo fans. This guy you're quoting seems sheltered.

Mario Kart 8 looks a bit better than I thought Wii U was capable of. It's not comparable at all to Xbone or PS4, but it's nice. Shame it's Q1 2014. If it was out this Fall I would have grabbed a Wii U. Pikmin 3 and Mario World look like solid secondary games for me, but I need something like Mario Kart to sell me.

The only game you can compare out of that list is Second Son, which does NOT destroy X. You could argue that it looks better at a technical level (because X has better art-direction) but you can't compare a huge open-world RPG to racers or corridor games.

The only game I saw that looks lots better than Project X is FF15, and rightfully so. The game is being made on stronger hardware and has had a 7 year dev cycle.

How are you all even determine framerate and resolution? The Bayonetta 2 video on youtube had frame stutter...even for youtube. Absolutely not 60 fps in any sense of the word.

FF15 isn't an open-world game. And just because X is open-world doesn't mean you can't compare how graphically/technically impressive the games are. Second Son looks far more impressive and doesn't take place in vast open lands with little geometry.

I will say MK is one very pretty game and could certainly be argued as the most pleasing. I think division may have been the most impressive to me, but X is astonishing for an open world game and the amount of distance rendered in some of the scenes. What's most impressive is Nintendo is showing a lot of actual gameplay and it looks that good. Watchdogs even seems to be keeping up from the little we got to see of it.

While some of the specs simply can't be argued, I don't believe that the Wii U is far behind when it comes to the GPU. Regardless, Nintendo first party games will certainly be able to contend as we've seen what Mario Galaxy could do on massively inferior hardware.
