Do you still have your 360 HD-DVD player connected?

I was watching the Big Lebowski today on the HD-DVD player (it's still not out on Blu-ray yet) and it made me wonder just how many HD-DVD players are out there. I still have mine connected as there are some great movies like Big Lebowski and Anchorman that are only available in HD on the HD-DVD player. Also, it's nice watching DVD's where I don't have to take the game out of my 360 since it will play it through the add on.

I got mine brand new when they were clearing them out for like $25 bucks and can find used/new HD-DVD movies for like $3-$5 and they are the same quality as Blu-ray. So just curious, you still sporting the HD-DVD player?

Yuss. I amassed a pretty huge HD-DVD collection when everyone was clearancing them out, still have a lot I haven't watched yet.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Yup, I still have more HD-DVD's then Bluray movies. Fire sales are awesome got most of my movies for $5AU and got like the Bourne collection, Matrix Collector and the Collectors Blade Runner for like $9.

:D

Yeah, I still watch a couple movies on it that I can't get or haven't gotten on Blu Ray. Serenity is one. I watch that every couple of weeks.

Traded in all that crap right before BR was declared winner. The Gamestop I go to was even taking in the movies still.

Mine's not hooked up at the moment, it's just sitting under my computer desk - I used it to transfer HD-DVDs to my network drive for the inevitable day the HD-DVD drive dies.

I do have a standalone HD-DVD player hooked up to my TV, though.

Yup it hasn't seen much use though. I bought it like a week before Warner announced they were only going to release Blu-rays.

Yessir... Typically use it for watching regular DVDs and the small collection of HD-DVDs I amassed.

It's a good but failed format. I'm sure it's going to have a cult following for a long time just like Laserdisc.

Yep, got one for $50 AUD with a few movies, then got a whole crap load for about $3-$5 each when they stopped production.

I had always left it connected until recently because i haven't used it in 6 months. I probably would have left it connected if it was black though..

Could never find one at $10, so I never got one. I would buy one for less then $20 shipped though, and connect it once every 2 years.

I have the S unit as well and set my HD-DVD player upright next to my white Wii so it's not too bad and sandwhich the HD-DVD player and Wii between black PS3 slim and the black 360 S.

I still have my laserdisc and love the crap out of it. Super bummed that you can only get composite out of it though. For a long time even after DVD's were out for a long time, Laserdisc was the only way to see a bunch of extras for movies like Rain Main, Mallrats, and Sling Blade.

I doesn't fit in with any of my consoles or my new TV. Everything is gloss black. Except for the drive.

Is it safe to have it vertically? =/

Yep, I do! I have a ton of HD-DVDs from when they became super-cheap, and I like having that second drive so that I don't wear the main drive out.

I actually have two of the things. I bought the first for $50 right after the format died out. Found a second for $15 and decided to snatch it up so that I have a backup.

lol yeah. Add another +1 to the Planet Earth club

Also sometimes it's more convenient to use it for dvds than taking the game out of the main 360 drive.

Isn't Laserdisc video stored in composite anyway? So s-video/component wouldn't do much.

Edit: Unless that's what you meant.

I did until my Xbox 360 died. My original had a drive failure so I thought if I used my HD DVD player could help so I didn't wear it down by watching moveis, plus you can imagine how happy I was with the install feature.

To bad it had something fuck up on the inside this time.

I boxed it up recently, it wasn't getting much use now that I've doublu dipped on all my favorite titles.

Funny, I was about to hook it up to the 360 yesterday to watch Planet Earth! Can't find my mini USB cable to connect it though :(

I'm waiting on the Slim to watch my HD-DVDs (My 360 is pretty quiet but still too noisy when watching movies, unplugged the fan in my HD drive) so right now it's connected but the power cord is not plugged in.

Still have a lot of HD movies I want to watch.

Not to go off topic, but is there a chance I could put a game in the HD-DVD Player and have it play from there as well as have a game in the normal drive?

In short, if I do not want to stand up, could I switch between two games without my arse leaving the sofa?

The HD-DVD drives does not recognize games, so no chance of having 2 games ready to play.

I lost my power cable for my HD-DVD and only in the last day or two, after some mental cleaning, I managed to find it and fire it back up. I was a little worried since I don't have the install disc but it worked perfectly on my Elite. Getting it to run on my Netbook was a different story. :lol

I bought mine for $20 used very late in the game and then completely missed out on the HD-DVD clearance wave. So now I just hook it up to my netbook at home as a DVD-ROM drive.
